“It is hard to understand why there were so many poor reviews of this hotel. It is a nice hotel in a convenient location with everything you need close by.”

“This hotel met our expectations. Although I have stayed in nicer hotels in my time, this hotel provided comfort, quiet, cleaniness, convenience and good staff service. The hotel was in 5 min walking distance to the Montparnesse metro station. This station is a main hub and provided access to almost anywhere in the city and to long haul trains. However, I was not in love with the neighborhood. Overall, it was great experience at a good price.”

“We traveled from the airport in paris to our hotel via bus and was quite suprised when we got off to find our hotel at our feet (nice suprise for first time travelers to paris) the hotel is centaly located to the trains, metro station and some of the best cafe's in town. Ask for a room on the uppeer floors for a spectacular view of the city.”

“The location of the hotel is very convenient, with Air France busses from CDG stopping directly across from the hotel. The rooms are unrenovated, however they are also of very poor quality. The mattress was horrible, I ended up sleeping on pillows. The rest of the hotel was fine. I would have thought they would have maintained the Starwood "Super Sleeper Bed" program, but obviously not.”

“We stayed at the Le Meredian E'Toile a few years ago. Although the location of the Montarnesse is far better, the overal quality of the E'Toile was far better especially related to bed linens and matress.”

“This was a great hotel, close to the metro and near restaurants, cafes, and grocery stores. It is a fairly upscale place, so the restaurants and bars were a pretty expensive, but leaving the hotel for such things was easy. The concierge and staff were really friendly and knowledgeable.”

“I was pretty worried about staying at this hotel. My room was fantastic, brand new and had a huge plasma TV - I couldn't have been happier. The staff was also very nice and public area was very nice and modern. Thanks!”

“The hotel is in a good location. You are only 5 minutes from the train and Metro station at Gare Montparnasse. The hotel claimed however that it is a 4 star hotel but on a good day it is a 3 star at best. The rooms are very dated. Everything is so expensive there. However there are two markets that sell really decent sandwiches and the like and there are plenty of cafes around too.”

“They are very accommodating there. We stayed away from hotel restaurants because the prices were very high - especially considering the weak dollar. The staff was very friendly. Just the bar experience was a disappointment. After I politely pointed out the dirty coffee cup, they changed the cup and filled the new cup half full (since I'd drunk it before I saw the sticky stains). I think after having drunk from a dirty cup (sticky sugar stains when I hadn't put sugar in it) they could have apologized and given me a full cup. Just very irritating.”

“This was my third stay here. Upon check-in, I requested the same room I had last time, if available. I liked the low floor and proximity to the elevator. The reception woman snootily replied that I'd been upgraded last time (really? Nothing about the room screamed upgrade to me). This room was awful, and reminiscent of my very first stay at this hotel: smelly, old and moldy. I went back down and told her it was not a 4* room, and that I wanted a room in the same category. Finally got it. So here's the deal: This hotel has basic rooms that are 1-2* and old bathrooms and well-worn beds (not to mention smoky stench). It also has classic rooms that were remodeled in the past year, and fit a 4* standard. To be clear, even classic rooms are not luxury (think IKEA etc), but they are clean, bright with modern bathrooms and beds. On the plus side, the hotel has free WiFi in the lobby, so in the evenings you have lots of interesting people hanging out on their PCs. Food was decent too.”

“Convenient access to Gare Montparnasse and easy walking distance to Jardin Luxembourg, St Germaine and Latin Quarter. The immediate surroundings are ugly concrete buildings, but the view from within makes up for it and the rooms are nice.”

“I have stayed in nicer motels on highways in the US. The room was ugly, the area was not very nice (though convenient), the beds were typical European quality but not 4-star quality. Does not deserve to have the le meridian name.”

“It is a nice hotel, but it has seen better days. The location was amazing! The views of the Eiffel tower were breathtaking, even though we did not go there. The rooms were tired and needed renovation. However, I can imagine that if they were renovated, we probably would not have received the prices we did. This is a good hotel, of a good standard. But do not expect luxury. Expect good service, a good location, comfort, but not luxury. I recommend it to anyone traveling to Paris, who has to consider their budget but wants to stay in a good quality hotel. If you are a business traveler and the cost of the hotel is being paid by your company, stay somewhere else.”

“I hate to admit it since my stay last year was so awful, but the Le Meridien Montparnasse has made some very positive changes since my last stay only a year ago. Whereas my room last year was nasty, smelly, moldy and very old and worn (2* quality at best), this year I was treated to one of the newly remodeled rooms. What a difference! The new rooms, while a little Ikea-ish, are clean, modern, and comfy. Good beds and nice bathrooms. Finally, this hotel has some rooms that merit a 4* rating. But I understand the majority are not yet renovated, so buyer beware. My only recommendation is to join Starwood's guest club and hope for the best. The lobby is also nice, which is good since I spent a ton of time down there (free WiFi). Internet in the rooms was too expensive for a leisure traveler without an expense account. My only beef, the unfriendly and superbly unhelpful concierge desk. The chubby guy with the moustache sent me on a mile-long hike with my suitcase to a non-existent Laundromat. And, the same guy almost caused me to miss my train, but for the grace of a god-like cabbie who saved me. Fyi: the hotel will not order you a cab. They will say they will and do nothing but drop your baggage in the taxi line out front, which is often 8-10 people deep between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Since taxis only come by about one every 10-15 minutes at that time of day, you can wait an hour or more easy! I had not only stopped by the night before, but called when I woke up, and both times was promised a taxi reservation. Beware and plan accordingly.”
