Greensboro Discount Travel DealsGreensboro was settled by freedom-loving Scots-Irish, Germans, and Quakers. The Scots-Irish and Germans fought valiantly in the American Revolution and the War of 1812, but when North Carolina seceded from the Union in 1861, Greensboro became an important Confederate supply depot. Jefferson Davis met here with Union General Johnston to arrange surrender terms after the Southern cause was lost. Today, the thriving city is a leader in higher education and the manufacturer of textiles, cigarettes, and electronic equipment, as well as the home of a large insurance industry. Although the city is considered to be one of the most desirable places to live in America for families, it is not the first place in the Piedmont that you'd think of visiting (Winston-Salem is far more interesting). But it does have several attractions that are worthy of attention.
