- Food and atmosphere are worth the trip. Attentive and warm service.
- Could use a few better wine selections.
“New owners have brought in professional chefs and refreshed the interior. For a newly reopened restaurant, it is fabulous. The food is creative and mouthwatering -- fresh and local meats and produce, handmade pastas, beautiful pastries, amazing seafood, all set on a beautiful lake and complete with a fireplace. You will want to come and stay all evening. BRAVO!”

Tony's Restaurant

Overall Rating: 1

- Good milk-shakes.
- Food was lousy, poorly prepared and took too long to arrive.
“I went to Tony's with my daughter and a couple of friends on Saturday evening. When we arrived, we were surprised how empty the place was right after a MSU game when many other restaurants in town were packed. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and fries, simple enough order. It took more than 30 minutes and the burger was dry, excessively over cooked and obviously precooked and heated up. I don't know what took 30 minutes. My daughter ordered a Sampler plate, with fries rather than chicken wings since she is a vegetarian. We watched them take her food to another table (we were at the counter), waited for another 10 minutes before they served the wrong sampler plate (with chicken wings). One friend had a shake which was fine. The other ordered a bowl of chilies which somehow took 40 minuets to arrive. Upon arrival it had obviously been microwaved, smelled badly and tasted worse. The service was mediocre at best. For the quality of food it was way overpriced. I wouldn't go back again on a bet.”

Vineyard Italian Rest & Pizza

from South Bend, IN
Overall Rating: 7

Atmosphere:[6]
- Decent value, genuine service and hospitality, excellent Focaccia bread.
- Can get crowded during the summer, but expected.
“This is a lovely family-owned restaurant catering to those who desire something original. It's not a pre-programmed outfit like Apple bees or the other formatted joints today's 20-30-something think are so great. While I like those places for their consistency, places like the Vineyard are what real restaurants are all about. OK, the chairs are typical stacking banquet seats that probably cost only $20 each. The old church building has a lot of character even though it wasn't styled by Architectural Digest. Prices aren't that bad, the food is decent, Staff is friendly and they have great pizza. They do not pretend to be a 5-star restaurant. I eat in different places all over the country and enjoy the genuine hospitality of this place. My wife and I gladly travel the hour and a half a couple times a months to visit. Give them a try.”

Shingle Diggins Family Rest
Oct 26, 2009 by
Zach
Overall Rating: 10
Food:[10] •
Service:[10] •
Atmosphere:[10]
- It's a smoke free restaurant, the food and service were great, clean bathrooms.
- Nothing to dislike. It's a diner, so expect a diner-style setting.
“We actually stumbled across this place when we are aiming to eat at the Subway across the street. The food there was very good. There were four of us, we all ordered something different and we were all satisfied without meal. I also liked the senior pictures from what I'm guessing is the local high school on the walls. Also worth noting, the bathrooms in this place are clean. To me, this makes or breaks a restaurant experience. If you're stopping through on your way to anywhere along I94, I highly recommend stopping here. It'll be a great story, telling your friends about the time you ate at a restaurant called Shingle Diggins.”
