• Great food, atmosphere, and quality. Good place for couples or families.
• It's not cheap.

“I've been eating at this restaurant for years, and have always been impressed by the fantastic food, service, and atmosphere. I enjoyed it as a kid with the whole family, with a date in my teens, and now with my husband and friends as an adult. The music and dimmed lighting make for a relaxing and potentially romantic atmosphere, the employees are friendly and kind, and the food's great! The prices might seem a little high, but for the quantity and quality that you get, it's worth it! Go, and enjoy! (One more thing: The Crab Rangoon are AMAZING, and I LOVE the egg drop soup. These are standard Chinese restaurant fare, but much better than anything I've tasted at any other restaurant.”

Canteen Lunch In The Alley

• Everything.
• I could only eat two. And no room for pie either.

“I've still been going to the Canteen after moving from Ottumwa in 1960. I've made many trips from my 2nd home town, Chicago. It's still the best. I was there last month and should have bought a bag full to go. Next time!”

• Good food, good prices, good service.
• It's not the fanciest place I've ever eaten in.

“We stopped at Nick's on Aug 22, 2009. We started with the homemade onion rings. There were enough in one large order for all 4 of us adults. The best I've had in years. Moved on to tenderloins. One had a nice side salad, 2 of us had fries. We got enough fries to share. My wife ordered the homemade vegetable, beef soup and a huge milk shake. I had to finish the shake. Our bill was less than $30 with tax. That's good eating at reasonable prices. The little gal that waited on us was friendly and efficient. Did I mention cute. Thanks' Nick's restaurant for more than just a good meal, we had a good time as well. We'll be back for some of that homemade pie next time.”

• Great small town atmosphere. Very friendly!
• Just a little too much grease in the blooming onion.

“This is a small-town at its best! A very friendly tavern with a good menu and great service. When the owner found out, it had been 25 years since I had visited, he came to me and shook my hand and welcomed us. The bartender, even though very busy, took the time to talk with us as well. We were impressed, and had a very good time and good food. My wife and I will go back and soon! See you there!”

• Noise level is loud.

“Wow! The Red Crow Grille was outstanding! My husband and I were in the area to play golf and were trying to find a great place to dine via the internet. What a surprise it was to find such a wonderful restaurant. Our waiter was friendly and very helpful. He was able to answer all our questions and make good recommendations. The food was out of this world. The presentation of each course was beautiful and every dish was so delicious. The only negative was the level of noise, but it is a sign of the place to eat. If we are ever in the area again, we will certainly dine there.”
