- Loved the food and the service.
- The bathroom is a converted closet.
“I had breakfast at the Syracuse cafe with a colleague on April 24, 2008. We're from out of town and picked this restaurant because time was short and it was the first "non-McFood" restaurant we saw. Breakfast is my favorite meal, and I've had breakfasts at four-star (can't afford five-star!) hotels in Washington DC, Savannah Georgia, San Diego, Atlanta, Chicago, and Montreal. I ordered two eggs over easy "not runny" toast, and bacon. It was the best professionally-cooked breakfast I have ever eaten. The eggs were done to perfection and the bacon is obviously fresh, local and delicious. Our waitress was friendly, but not unctuous or intrusive. Constant refills of coffee and soda were made unobtrusively. I'm tempted to drive the five hours just to eat breakfast again. Magnificent small-town restaurant. A++++.”

- Very friendly.
- Limited menu.
“This truly a hometown diner, where everybody knows everybody and if you are from out of town. Your waitress is your cook too. The food is simple and good. Step back in time to this little hometown in the heart of Washington, Indiana.”

- Food is well-prepared and tasty.
- They obviously need more kitchen help; super slow food preparation.
“Do not go here if you are on a lunch hour! My daughter and I went in a little after noon, placed our order (specialty salad for me, Reuben sandwich for her) within five minutes of arriving. We sat and talked and waited for our order. After half an hour we began to notice that no one in our room had been served yet; after 40 minutes we asked the waitress to check on our order. My salad was almost done, but there was no corned beef; it took the chef 45 minutes to figure that out. We had to leave with just the salad as a carry-out; the waitress said we should have informed her if we were 'in a hurry'! I have eaten in a lot of restaurants, but none as slow as this one. Most comparable restaurants serve 15-20 minutes after the order is placed; this was more than double that time.”

- I love their food! Soups are fab! Steaks, prime rib, excellent!
- Could be open later.
“Exceptional value! In this day and age every restaurant is cutting back on their food portions. You can still get a big old fashioned juicy steak here! The Prime rib is absolutely huge and delicious! Their shrimp cocktail is the best! Did I mention the Surf and Turf Lobster tail and the Homemade soups and salad dressing? Casual dress and atmosphere. Plenty of free parking! 4 miles South of Downtown on Meridian Street, on the City's Southside. They are even open for lunch.”

- No better steak anywhere.
- Minimalist interior design--you are there for the steaks, not interior decoration.
“GREAT steaks! Hand cut, cooked to perfection. You can stand outside, and smell the steaks as they are being cooked. Large portions (steak for 2 or steak for 3)--enough to have steak and eggs for breakfast the next day. and the steak still tastes delicious! Sometimes the wait to eat will have people lined up on the sidewalk--good to call ahead but, you can walk around the Bloomington town square to while away 30 minutes or so. This really is a place just for steaks: the salad is just OK. The baked potato is large enough, served with butter and sour cream. The rolls are OK. The mushrooms are the perfect combination with the steaks! mm! The service is great, prompt and clean.”
