• The homemade cheesecakes are to die for, better than Cheesecake Factory.
• The restaurant is not easy to find.

“The owner of Giovanni's also owns a very successful restaurant in Bakersfield named Frugatti's. People stand in line at Frugatti's for and hour on weekends when they could drive 20 minutes to Shafter and have the same food (a little cheaper) and not wait in line. It's nice to be able to bring my friends from Bakersfield to Giovanni's and have them tell me how good the food was. We don't have very many restaurants here in Shafter but we are very proud and lucky to have Giovanni's. ”

• There are four different kinds of lasagna.
• They are closed between 2:pm and 4:pm.

“I work in Shafter but live in Delano which is 25 miles away. I try to take home dinner from Giovanni's at least once a month. The owners are a real nice couple and their attention to detail is apparent in the day to day operation. I spoke with them about opening a second restaurant in Delano and they told me they were already considering it. I hope they will because I think they would be a big success. ”

• They have pick-up if you call ahead.
• They only deliver within the Shafter city limits.

“I live 8 miles from Shafter but whenever I know I'm going to be driving through Shafter I will call ahead and have my order ready to pick up. I can't help it, the food is delicious and we are so pleased that a restaurant with such good Italian food is nearby. I especially like the garlic chicken cal zone with extra sauce and cheese melted on top. My kids like just plain old pepperoni pizza. I wish they would open up a second restaurant in my town.”

• As soon as you sit down you are served hot homemade bread loaves with seasoned olive oil.
• I would like to see the wine list expanded.

“Excellent Italian Food - I was told by friends about this restaurant in nearby Shafter and how they had authentic Italian recipes developed by the Italian owners. It says on the sign that it is a pizzeria but it had a full Italian menu - not just pizza. I had their house specialty the first time I went there - the baked chicken in mushroom chardonnay sauce. It is fantastic! My wife likes the garlic chicken fettuccine Alfred. My wife and I try to go there at least once a month because it's so close to Bakersfield and the food and service is always very good. The owner and his wife are there every night and they always say hello to us and are genuinely concerned about the customers. If you are from Bakersfield it is worth the 15 minute drive - I can't even get across Bakersfield in 15 minutes much less find better Italian food.”
