  • One of the friendliest places I have ever eaten in. I told all my fellow travelers about it!
  • No negative comment at all.

“My husband and I just stumbled upon this restaurant after asking someone at a local shop where we should eat lunch. It was the best fried chicken and banana pudding I have ever eaten. What was so neat was the way folks around you just started talking to you and by doing so we found out some of those people knew people we knew even though we were all from different areas of the state! I can't wait to go back and I sure hope they have that wonderful fried chicken when I do. I highly recommend this place. They do have an awning now that says "Peggy's" but I gather it is relatively new to the building.”

  • The unique way that you pay for your meal.
  • There were no negatives.

“Peggy's is a unique restaurant located in downtown Philadelphia, MS in an old white house. When you drive up, it just looks like an old house that your grandparents lived in during the 50s or 60s. When you go inside, the hallway is blocked off and a board stretches from wall to wall and the most wonderful home cooked food is lined up. Fresh peas, homemade cornbread, fresh corn, butterbean, turnip greens, hams, fried chicken, pork chops, ham. You help yourself and then go get your own tea and bread. You sit down, usually with other folks at a table for 8 or so and enjoy a scrumptious meal. Dessert is close by, usually homemade banana pudding, pies, cakes, etc. The most unique thing about the restaurant is when you get up to go pay, you go and put your money in a straw basket. No cash register, no one to wait on you. You put your money in and make your own change. This wouldn't work everywhere, but it certainly does here in the deep south. Friendly people, wonderful atmosphere and delicious home cooking.”
