“I last visited Sandy¿s cafe in may 1978. After rejecting the first half-dozen of our requests because the kitchen help shut down the steam table early, the surly waitress took my order for a belt. A disheveled character hunched in a nearby booth smoking a cigarette in a haze. The waitress returned with my belt and to my astonishment, there was only one piece of bacon on the entire sandwich. I summoned her back to the table and inquired as to the dearth of pork accompanying my lettuce and tomato, and she motioned to smoky in the booth. "Ask him, he's the owner." what must have been "sandy" came over to our table and after conferring with his staff, asked me what the problem was. "A little skimpy on the bacon here aren't yaw, bob?" to which he muttered that I knew nothing about the restaurant business, and what it cost to make a belt. "One piece, cut in half!" he shouted, waving his hand in the air like a meat cleaver. We beat a hasty retreat from Sandy¿s, never to return--in person.”
