• Waiting for a table!

“It's a tradition to go to Salas' on my birthday in January, this will be the 26th year! As locals we never hit Newport in the summer but it's free and clear in January. The wait staff is the same ladies who served me as a kid and know when we come in now it's my birthday. The food is so affordable and very good. The seafood is always fresh. The oriental spaghetti is a favorite of many friends and family. The checkered table cloths add to that family restaurant feel. The owners are Armenian I believe but do a great job with all kinds of cusine! Kids are always welcome, I have a 2 year old and she comes along. The wait can be longer for a big table since there are only about 5 tables in the whole place.”

• Seafood Platter, clams casino and lobster.
• No atmosphere, walking past the bar downstairs.

“The food is delicious and the service is exceptional! Want a good laugh, have a drink at the upstairs bar, the bartenders are a hoot. However, there is absolutely no atmosphere! No music and it is very dark and dreary! If it weren't for the food and staff, I would not return.”

• I love the atmosphere.
• Nothing.

“I've been going to Salas (upstairs) since the 1970's. It is a wonderful family friendly restaurant. The prices are great when you're on a budget (which was the case when my family was stationed in Newport). Their oriental spaghetti is the best, as well as the lobster and clambakes. There are many wonderful, romantic restaurants in Newport; however, we always find our way back to Salas every year and are never disappointed.”

• Lobster, chowder, food in general, price.
• Sometimes long waits.

“The food at Salas is amazing. It is nicer upstairs than down and I cannot imagine coming to Newport and not having lobster here. ”
