User Reviews for Walla Walla Restaurants« Go back to Ontario HotelsResearch User Reviews for Walla Walla (1-9 of 9)Jacobis Train Car Cafe
“Well, I have to say Jacobi's cafe is a really awesome restaurant. It was here in Walla Walla a long time ago, about 10 years, and sadly closed down when the family moved due to their own circumstances. Happily 10 years later its returned in all its glory as a town legend. You can eat in the train car, sit out on the patio, or taste a large variety of local wines. Ask any server about the history of the train car or the building and you're sure to get a dazzling story. Overall, Id rate the place an 8 or 9. They've only been back open a little while, but give them a month or two and they'll be back up to a perfect 10.”

“Clarettes is the bomb. I don't like most breakfast-diner joints, but this one is different. They have an enormous menu, lots of the food is local, they have organic and vegetarian options (which I think are stupid, but whatever tweaks your nips). The food is delicious. That can't be overstated. Everything I've had there is bomb. Sometimes it takes a while to get seated, because for some reason most of the people who work and eat there are a trillion years old and it's super busy, the seats are kind of crappy and the tables are definitely old-school, but it's way worth it. It's really good. Seriously.”

“We didn't know the area or what we were looking for so it was kind of hard to find. Once we found it there was a moderately long wait, but considering it was Sunday morning it wasn't much different than you would find at Ihop or another pancake house under the same circumstances. The food was on the good side of decent, and considering what we paid (about $5 a plate) it was very good. I also liked the fact that they offer vegetarian options for almost everything on the menu, and the coffee was good.”

“From the outside, Clarettes looks like the kind of place you might find some good family-style cafe cooking at a family-style price. Unfortunately, this was not my experience. I can't speak for all the food but my girl friend ordered the fish and chips served with green beans and it was pretty bad (major understatement). I hate to be negative, but I am hoping the honest criticism will help them to improve their business. First off, the green beans were straight out of a can you know the kind: that salty-sour flavor, mushy texture. I'm not picky, but come now! Canned!? Blah! Are all their veggies canned? And the fish. I was hoping for home made, or at least batter dipped in the kitchen. I would have even been happy with a good quality pre-coated frozen kind. Instead, my friend got a few of these little greasy-breaded triangles. They weren't even crispy. Talk about cheap! Where did they get these? Even the cheapest breaded fish I have bought from the frozen food section at the grocery store are far better quality than these. So you have to work pretty hard to make fish that bad. The same could be said for the chips (the French fries). Again, where did they get these!? How can you make bad French fries? I want to know who their French fry and fish supplier is so I can find out that else uses these products and then stay away. Seriously! And that's why I am writing this note to help others. It might sound like I am an elitist; I assure you, I am not. In fact, if this meal were priced at $2, you might even find me back at Clarettes ordering it again. Customers on a budget have to expect some compromises. But the price of their fish and chips meal was actually $8.00! I had a real problem with this! They are clearly saving all this money by using cheap products yet they are passing very little, if any, of the savings on to their customers. I must admit that it was worse, too, because my friend had ordered it. I felt so bad for her. You always feel worse when it happens to someone you care about. And I didn't want to make a big scene over it. I just paid the bill with generous tip and left. I used to wonder how large-chain restaurants have been able to gain a foot-hold over local mom-and-pop shops. I don't wonder nearly as much anymore. NAI think the world needs more good home-cookin' family restaurants. ”

“This place is a joke. You will definitely walk away hungry and your wallet weighing considerably less. The food is mediocre, overpriced, small portions and the wait staff thinks they are at caulis in Seattle. There are plenty of good restaurants in Walla and I would recommend skipping this one.”

“The items we ordered on the breakfast menu were all fantastic: waffles, pancakes, eggs, hash browns (actually really quality hash browns), wheat toast, ham & eggs, sausages, and bacon. It was pretty busy but we still got a table quickly and the waiting service was excellent. ”

“El Sombrero is a great place to eat, as it is very good Mexican food at a good low price. I take my friends to El Sombrero quite a bit because of this, its just a nice place to eat and is laid back and easy on the wallet.”

“Over priced menu items and snobbish wait staff. Many excellent restaurants in Walla Walla. This one is not worth the time or money. Food is small portions, highly over-priced, and everything on the menu is ala carte. Don't waste your time, money, or dining experience. Nothing special to offer.”

“This place is the real deal. It's like a perfect little 50's hamburger stand in pristine condition. The food is over the top good, service was friendly and the atmosphere was like a blast form the past. All the food is made to order and the place is really popular so do not expect fast food. The wait for our order was about 15 minutes, but it was more than worth it. ”
