“I was walking by this place with my dog on a Monday just after opening. Thought about getting a warm cup of coffee from a piece of history. Instead I got a cold stare, a smirk and rude remarks. No dogs allowed! When I asked about a place to latch him I was told - "if youre smart enough to find one" - I couldn't believe the rudeness! I just closed the door and walked away with my money in my pocket.”

“My wife and I took our Thai daughter in-law to the Wild Orchid on her visit to us in Lakewood. Not only did we like the food and service but also got rave reviews from our daughter in-law who has only been in this country for 6 months.”

“Decor has been updated and the restaurant is friendly to families of all types. The service has gone up and down several times depending on the staff.”

“I found the Harbor Lights to be a delightful experience. It is a bit dated but that's what gives it such charm. The bartender and cocktail server were fantastic. The food wasn't that spectacular but the service made up for it. It was a full moon and the bartender turned down the lights and let us have a very romantic night. She said it's the best place to experience the full moon over the water. We agree and have decided to make it down again to have a little romance. The bartender made us feel right at home.”

“The Pine Cone cafe is a typical diner. It is clean, the food is consistently good and the service is quick and polite. This cafe is popular among the older folk. They serve open menu type food. Prices are fair and you get a lot of food.”

“I visited Herman's ETC for first meal of the day, lunch. I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak with fries and an iced tea. Unfortunately I found the Philly Cheese steak to be less than desirable. The steak used was nothing more than small thin strips, more like scraps of beef, consisting of a lot of fatty portions and beef tough like shoe leather. The beef was grilled together with a large amount of vegetables to add volume to the sandwich. While I could only stomach eating half the sandwich, when I turned the second half of the sandwich over I found a large portion of the bun gone. It actually look as though it could have been bitten out, but I'm certain that something happened to it during preparation and the cook decided to still serve, it counting on the customer to not notice. Since it was on the bottom and out of site. When the waitress returned I asked for the check and she asked if I wanted a take-out box, to which I quickly replied No! On the other hand, the steak fries and iced tea were perfect. Total spent at Herman's was $12.06, $2.19 of which was for the iced tea. I'm not recommending that you don't eat at Herman's, but make sure you stay away from the Philly Cheese Steak.”

“This place is a blast! I had never been there and being from 1,400 miles away I was thrilled to find a place that was fun and affordable. The service and food were both spectacular.”

“On Valentines Day my wife and I arrived about 6:30. At 8:30 our food was served. Yes this is a busy day but they apparently were down a couple of servers. If that's the case it would be good to know before being seated. We ordered Sweet and Sour Prawn soup, which they forgot to provide, so more waiting while they apparently made it from scratch. It turned out to be a watery concoction with a number of inedible items in it. The 'prawns' still had the tails on. Definitely not worth the $10 price. The Manchurian Beef was unremarkable and the Panang Curry was ok but pretty congealed by the time we got a chance to eat it. The lemon basil martini that I had was different, but not very deep for $6.95. My wife's drink (can't remember the name of it) was nauseatinly sweet. She didn't finish it.”

“Now I have to say, it was the summer of 2004, but this little place had some of the best food ever! In the period of a week, we ate breakfast and dinner here multiple times and was amazed by how delicious the food was. Aside from the food, the service and wait staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. I truly hope this little gem has not fallen by the wayside as the other reviewer indicates. That would be the ultimate shame. I was really looking forward to returning on our next visit. There was also a bar connected to the restaurant that had that wonderful neighborhood feel to it.”

“The food was a little above average for this type of restaurant. I have eaten at Japanese steak houses in 15 different cities and this would rank among the lowest of them. For a local Japanese steak house that is much better try Tokyos in federal way. Better atmosphere, service and most importantly far better tasting food.”

“Took my wife there on a night out. From the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left we felt unwanted and unwelcome. Crammed into a corner by an indifferent hostess, the old relic of a waitress rolled her eyes and snapped at us, it was more like a Southern backwoods truck stop than waterfront dining, especially since all the food is deep-fried and greasy, the drinks are overpriced and watery. At least at a Hillbilly Truck stop you can find parking.”

“I've eaten at this restaurant a few times. I've always been please with what I've ordered. Everything was delicious! The atmosphere is very warm and it can be romantic. It has a fire place and dim lights for the mood. The waiters/waitress' aren't very talkative, but they do make you feel warm and welcomed. The bathroom sinks are gorgeous. I know that's weird to review on, but they are beautiful! I just wish they had a Mariachi band to play music while you ate.”

“Hermans has a great menu if you're craving a burger, the workers are very nice. I work close by and we will call in our orders and pick them up. I have lived in Tacoma my whole life and didn't know about Hermans till a year ago. I have told all my friends and family about the place, they all go out of there way to dine there. Good food, good people, and a great location if you need to do a little shopping in between!”

“I recently ate downstairs at the Cliff House (Guido's), which is less formal than the fine dining upstairs. The food was delicious and the service was excellent! I took my husband and my son, so we sat in the "bistro" area (because the other area was for 21 and up). The view was spectacular and it was an overall great experience.”

“It's like walking into a time capsule. My husband & I are youngish, but the Dean Martin atmosphere is so unique and the history is wonderful, especially compared with the typical chains (even within Anthony's chain). Their food was great. I've found it difficult to find Calamari Steak properly cooked, not over cooked. They had this nailed. I particularly love their Clam Chowder. It is not New England Clam Chowder with milk, it is not Manhattan Clam Chowder with tomatoe base; it is a reflection on our NW seafood heritage, a clam nector based Chowder & it's marvelous. Thank you Harbor Lights for not submitting to the generic, cookie cutter make everything & everyone the same. A little lower prices would make this a more frequent stop for us.”

“If there was a zero for service and a zero overall experience that is what the I would rate this restaurant. If you like to drink from dirty glasses, have beer spilled over your lap, and wait on food for over an hour when the restaurant is not busy than this is your place.”

“As a pseudo-local (ups student) I have gotten to know restaurants in the area quite well but didn't have a favorite restaurant until my sister took me to wild orchid. Now when I crave off-campus food it's always my first stop! I highly recommend the 7-flavors beef!”

“Forget any pizza you have had delivered. You have to try these guys, less expensive than the "others" and way more cheese and faster delivery. 19.99 2 med pizza's and a bottle of pop, (they have several flavors too!) We do pizza a lot, feeding five people; can get costly if you order pizza like we do. .”

“The window seat for two was nice but crowded by other larger tables. The service was slow and food was not worthy of the $$. Limp lettuce salad drenched with dressing, I was given the incorrect meal and had to wait for a new meal to be prepared which was undercooked and served incorrectly with rice instead of the vegetables. My guest's dinner was left on the table and was cold when my meal finally arrived. It was not an enjoyable experience.”

“If you want a nice romantic night out or you want to spoil your kids the lobster shop has the right meal for you. You can pay a litter if you come early or you can come later when the restaurant is near empty and have a quiet romantic dinner. I say the food is the best I have ever had at any restaurant.”

“The food is good, but the service is very, very, very slow. Their soup of the day was squash and soup. It sounded good, so I asked the waitress if it had any meat, she said no. My order arrived, after a long wait and there were huge chunks of bacon in it. The waitress acted very surprised that the bacon was in the soup. I can't eat bacon. So I ordered a sandwich instead. As the others in my group were nearing the end of their meal, my meal had not arrived. Trying to flag the waitress down is impossible (she appeared to be the only waitress in the place). But when I finally did she again seemed surprised that I did not have the sandwich. Another delay and she finally arrived and said that the cook had burned the sandwich and would work on a replacement soon. In the meantime we had to get back to work. There was no apology or offer for a discount, or compensation. The final sandwich that did arrive (boxed to go after we spent 1.5 hours at the place) was not even toasted. I would give this place another try as my coworkers all enjoyed their food, but the service really needs some major improvements.”

“I have been a fan of Harbor Lights since I was young when my parents took me. The prices are higher than other seafood restaurants, but it's because of the high-quality service and excellent food. It's hard to find a more homey, comfortable and established restaurant specializing in seafood in the south sound area. My favorites are any of the Halibut dishes or steaks. My parents love the Captain's Plate (a sampling of all major seafood's) and sautéed Dungeness Crab Legs. The seafood and meat are always fresh and very well prepared. Also, most of the employees have been there for years and know all us Harbor Lights patrons.”

“I enjoy Harbor lights as the landmark waterfront restaurant that it is. You get huge portions of fried or grilled seafood and steaks, and the clams are easily the best around. It sometimes is very crowded and on occasion I get sat right next to another couple. It is very charming with the service friendly and efficient.”

“I find Harbor Lights to be a traditional waterfront restaurant true to the standards developed over many years. Huge portions of fried or grilled seafood and the best clams you'll find anywhere. I think the service is friendly and efficient. Sometimes it is a bit crowded, but I know I will always be given great care.”

“We went to this restaurant for a special occasion. The night so happened to be during a formal at some of the schools. It was incredibly crowed, which made parking awful. Prices were not listed on the menu, and we were also unaware that the bread was an additional charge as well as the salads. The waiter did not inform us and just brought them out. The food was awful compared to many other places that I have been too. For four of us to dine it came out to four hundred dollars, for an awful environment and food. During the romantic day with my boyfriend, out of all of the food we had that day, my lunch at a deli as pike place market was much better and more fulfilling then the Cliff House. ”

“The food is all deep fat fried, except for maybe the steak. I dont know I went there for the seafood. The salad was just lettuce and was absolutely smothered in dressing. There were no seafood dishes that were not fried and I did not feel that you got what you paid for. An entree costs around $20 but you could get the same meal at Ivar's for considerably less. The drinks were not well mixed and the atmosphere was stuffy. Anyone under fifty looked sorely out of place.”

“The atmosphere was wonderful, the view was beautiful at night, we were on the top floor, fine dining. The food was good, not the best I have had, the Focaccia bread was old and hard ( that came with the meal). At the end of our meal, the hostess came over and removed everything off our table, even our water glasses, we felt that we were being rushed out the door. Our waiter never offered us dessert. We paid the bill and left. We wont go back. ”

“We eat here every time we're in the Seattle/Tacoma area. Consistently prepared dishes, varied seasonal menues, creative desserts. Waitstaff work hard and are pleasant, but not too familiar. Casual atmosphere but a little noisy inside; outdoor dining on the pier is nice. Afterwards a walk along the waterfront is enjoyable. I feel the menu and atmosphere are not suitable for children under 12, but great for a date or group of friends. Nice just for drinks or dessert, too.”

“We have eaten at Sushi Tama several times and have also ordered take-out. We have generally been satisfied with our meals, which are always nigiri and sushi rolls. I would not consider it one of the best sushi restaurants I have been to but the quality and freshness of the fish is always good. Not a lot of creativity with rolls - atmosphere is pleasant. Service is friendly.”
