User Reviews for Lubbock Restaurants« Go back to Culpeper RestaurantsResearch User Reviews for Lubbock (1-20 of 32)Jason's Deli
“Pretty basic Deli. Food is average for a Deli type place. Lots of choices for all tastes. Nothing really special. Not a place I would probably eat at, better for take-out. For business you can place a bunch of individual orders and have them delivered. Great for a working lunch!”

“Golden Corral is a pretty expensive all you can eat buffet. As is usually for such a place, given any single type of food, the food is usually below average, except for their fresh baked rolls, which tend to be pretty good. Since they added Steaks and such on, the buffet price went up. With the general food quality, all you can eat is only good if you are very, very hungry, otherwise your money is probably much better spent on a nicer restaurants.”

“Food is pretty basic down-home and stick-to-the-ribs type food. I like there hamburgers and onion strings. Have eaten there several times. Lots of selection so most likely something appealing to everyone. Decent pricing - I'd say $6 - $15 per meal range, not including drink and appetizers. Nice atmosphere. Not fantastic food, just basic food done well.”

“I eat here quite often - one of my favorites in town. Food is good, well above average of Mexican Restaurants I have eaten at. It is a chain but I have only eaten at the one in Lubbock. As a side dish, I absolutely love the Papas Con Chile! Food is reasonably priced. Service is great. Free Chips and Salsa before the meal. They can handle large groups if you have the need (call ahead or make reservations, they can have a wait if you just show up). This is a place we often take visitors when in town.”

“It has been several years since I ate there, hopefully it has changed. The food was excellent, however, while I was seated in a non-smoking section, the cigarette smoke was constantly drifting from the smoking section and ruined what could have been a nice meal - after a while I could taste the smoke more than the food. Place is a combination restaurant/bar/video game parlor/pool hall.”

“I travel a lot and like Japanese food, however, Tokyo Steakhouse had the worst food of any Japanese restaurant I have ever eaten at - not terrible mind you, just well below average. Someone recommended Tokyo Steakhouse as the best Japanese restaurant in town. I haven't tried the others, but if this is the best in town, Lubbock has no good Japanese restaurants. On the flip side, people were friendly and the atmosphere was very nice. Also, in regards to other reviews of this place, it is primarily a Teppanyaki place, not Hibachi.”

“Summed up in one word. Delicious. Everything I have gotten from Choo Chai has been spectacular, from the pad Thai to the curry chicken. It does take a while to get your food, so don't go in and expect to be out in 20 minutes. The food is made fresh by the owner while you wait. I also like the at home-no frills atmosphere, but some may not. They recently raised their prices, though, so expect to pay 10 bucks. Even at lunch.”

“This place is not very clean and the food was undercooked! If you would like to find a good Hibachi Japanese Steakhouse, try Yamagata Japanese Steakhouse! It is absolutely amazing and has both great services and a great atmosphere.”

“The atmosphere was very inviting and the strawberry cobbler rocked! It was awesome and I wonder if they would give the recipe on it or not.”

“Barista's are underpaid and inexperienced. Drinks are variable and made differently every time I go in. Sometimes good, sometimes completely wrong.”

“Tokyo is the best Japanese restaurant in all of Lubbock! I have eaten at the other restaurants like Shogun's and Ohana's and was very disappointed with both. At shoguns when we sat at the table it was very dirty and at Ohana's the wait is extremely long. When I go to Tokyo I can expect top quality food and chefs with an award winning show. Also there is hardly ever a wait because Tokyo is such a big restaurant. They also have a very nice bar and the whole restaurant is decorated with a Japanese theme. I highly recommend going to this restaurant.”

“This food is awesome and the staff is tons of fun. The chef will have you laughing. If you plan to come over the lunch hour, call in your order 20 minutes ahead of time and you will get your food right on time at Noon. Try and get there by noon, it gets packed in a hurry. Hence the great food.”

“The food was great, as well as the cook's entertainment. The problem I saw were, it was a little hard to read the menu because of the lighting. We did not get our drinks and when the cook came to our table, he noticed it and told our waitress. Even then, she still did not get them, so my husband had to ask another waitress for them. The soup was bland - very little flavor but the meals were excellent and generous portions. Great entertainment on the cook's part!”

“Decent food but I was very disappointed with the service. We went there for out lunch hour. It took roughly 1 hour 15 minutes to get our food with two orders being wrong and one person not even getting his order. When the owner was questioned about the wrong orders and the missing order he responded with vulgar word and explained he didn't need to put up with us "vulgar word". When you enter the restaurant your first thought will be how this place can pass the health inspection. The condition of the kitchen and prep area is really a concern. To make a long story short the experience was a very unfavorable both from a service perspective and from healthy perspective. I discourage anyone I know from going to eat at Choo Chai.”

“I've been to Teppanyaki restaurants throughout the US, but this one was the best. The food was very good. The chef was entertaining as well. The coffee was the hottest I have ever had. It was great!”

“We have been to both the luncheon buffet and the dinner series. The food is above average and the service is among the best we have received anywhere. The restaurant is owned by Texas Tech University and is basically run by the students who plan and cook the meals. The menu is never the same at the buffet and the dinner series consists of a meal planned around a particular theme or cuisine. It is served on Tuesday through Thursday, and then another team will be in charge of the menu the next week. It is an enjoyable experience. The food is good, and the service is excellent. It is rather expensive, but when we have eaten there we have been pleased.”

“Cheddars in San Angelo, TX on Knickerbocker is awesome. Since discovering it, my husband and I eat no where else when in town. Wish they would put one in Abilene, TX. It would put Red Lobster out of business!”

“I go to Bryan's at least once a month if not more. Every experience is equal: great steaks clean salad bar, prompt service. I'll admit standing in line is no fun, but it is quick, before you know it you are sitting down with your drinks and salad. You can expect to wait 10 to 15 minutes on a busy night for a steak, but hey, its made to order, and if its not up to spec, just ask for more or less fire! The atmosphere is very outdated, but I have never gone to Bryan's for style tips, they focus on what matters: The food! Pricing is very generous; the grill rivals other "high-end" establishments. The staff is usually younger adults, but is respectful and helpful. I'm getting hungry just writing this review!”

“Even though we went late on a busy night the staff graciously accommodated or group of 13 (7 in ages ranging from 5-15) with no reservation. Everyone found something they really enjoyed on the menu; the staff was incredibly helpful with accurate and knowledgeable advice. An excellent experience.”

“The sushi was incredibly try and tasteless. The freshness was questionable. Do not order the peppered tuna rolls, we made that mistake and were presented with canned cooked tuna in a dry roll. The worst sushi experience I have ever had.”

“This restaurant has a little bit of everything. I used to live in Lubbock up until a couple of months ago and used to frequent tarsiżs a lot. They have a little bit of everything when it comes to atmosphere. They have an outdoor patio area for nice days and enjoying the outside, they have downstairs parlor area for groups, an upstairs "loft style" setting, and a dark/cozy bar upstairs. The prices are very reasonable with most (if not all) plates under $10. I had my rehearsal dinner for my wedding here, and they are good with groups as well! I would recommend this restaurant for everyone!”

“I have been to all of the Japanese steakhouses in Lubbock and even Bentihavas in Houston and in my opinion Tokyo was the best out of all. The seafood and steak were delicious and went even better with their sauces. The show was entertaining and their prices were reasonable. At the other Japanese steakhouses I feel Iżm paying too much for a show and mediocre food. I will be coming back here more often.”

“Best hibachi place in town. Loved the food, service, and the entertainment. The biggest Japanese restaurant in town. Not crowded at all like its competitors.”

“Food isn't bad. But if you're going for the sushi, be prepared to wait. Only one sushi chef on a Friday night. Lots of waiting between orders. ”

“Shogun Japanese Steakhouse is my favorite restaurant in the world. Not only is the service incredible, but the workers are extremely nice too. Even though we have only been there about 5 times, many of the chefs have memorized our names and little details about us, and always remember to do special tricks for my two daughters (13 and 7). The staff is extremely nice to children, talking with them and directing any tricks or extra food toward the, If you are ever in Lubbock, Shogun is a definite must!”

“Food was really good (had tamales which were excellent), but the service was not. Hardly anyone there (2:30 in the afternoon) and it took 10 minutes for beverages to arrive, another 20 minutes for food. Can't imagine what it would have been like if it was busy. Plenty of wait staff on hand, so not sure what was the problem.”
