Maharaja Fine Indian Cuisine Resturant
Apr 20, 2009 by chef from charlottesville

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Lunch buffet, butter chicken.
  • Slow waiter, but food offsets this.

“Best Indian food in town, spinach pakora to die for. Chicken vindaloo is very good. Hot. Also the butter chicken is the best of anywhere I have ever eaten. Lunch buffet was well priced and tasty. Food is always hot and the staff is great.”

Aberdeen Barn
Mar 7, 2008 by Britney from Charlottesville

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[1] • Service:[4] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Nice atmosphere.
  • Everything else.

“I had heard wonderful things about Aberdeen Barn, so we decided to take out of town visitors there b/c they wanted a good steak. It was the most embarrassing experience I have ever had. First we ordered wine and they tried to pass off a cheaper year, then we ordered top shelf sprits for a pre-dinner drink (2 got top shelf, I got cheap vodka, obviously not Grey Goose). Then we ordered steaks, which were all cooked rare (we asked for medium to medium well). We decided to just eat them instead of sending them back, but were unable to b/c they tasted like straight lighter fluid. The meal was over $300 for 6 of us and it was the worst meal any of us had ever had. I will never go back.”

Sals Pizza
Jul 17, 2007 by Rudy from NYC

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[7] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Food and atmosphere.
  • Service was a bit slow.

“I usually make it a habit never to eat Italian food west of the Hudson River or south of NYC, but in this case I am glad I went against my intuitive reasoning. Sal's outdoor dining is wonderful, in that area is impeccably decorated and offers a restful reprieve for lunch. I order the Caesar salad which consisted of fresh and crispy romaine lettuce with a wonderfully light Caesar dressing. I then ordered a personal size Margarita pizza. The dough was crispy and tasty and the hallmark of any pizza, the souse, was really quite good. With that I also enjoyed a glass of the local chardonnay. The lunch was quite a good value for the price. Being of Italian heritage I feel that I an am cognizant of quality Italian food, and this place was really very nice!”

The Ivy Inn
Aug 8, 2006 by D B Hutton from Baltimore

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6
Food:[8] • Service:[4] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Excellent dishes, when we were allowed to eat there.
  • No accommodation for the handicapped.

“The first time we visited the Ivy Inn, we had a wonderful, relaxed meal. The room was pleasantly quiet with show tunes playing on the bar's sound system, to which we all hummed along. We made reservations a second time, but when we got there (and Dad had hobbled up to the door with his walker), discovered that the patio and entire first floor had be closed for some sort of reception. The only dining room was on the second floor, up stairs, which my dad cannot do. No elevator. No accommodation. No for warning when we made the reservation. I reminded the rather rude hostess about the Americans with Disabilities Act, to no avail. ”

Bird Blue Cafe
Mar 19, 2006 by Preston

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[5] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • Food was generally decent to good.
  • Service was abysmal.

“Maybe we just got unlucky, but our group had an absolutely miserable dining experience here. First we had to wait about 20 minutes for someone to take our order (the waitress didn't even ask about drinks earlier), we didn't get bread like other tables, it took at least an hour just to get our salads, and over an hour and 45 minutes for our entrees to come. Another table seated at the same time as us had paid and left well before we even received our entrees. They had also run out of a beer selection and one of the soups. When our meals finally came, one person's meal was forgotten, and she had to wait another half-hour or so for her food. To cap it all off, there were extended problems with the bill. Explanations and apologies for all these problems were sadly lacking. Oh, and I forgot to mention, there were a couple musicians playing or singing, and there were speakers literally placed within a foot of the head of our table, making conversation very difficult. I had no problem with the music, it was simply a serious mistake of judgment for the restaurant to place any tables within ten feet of where they were playing. The food was fine, although unspectacular and perhaps slightly over-priced.”
