Village Bistro
Jun 17, 2009 by Joni from Arlington

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Food, presentation, service.
  • A tad noisy, but then it's a Bristo.

“My hubby and I have been coming to this wonderful place for almost 25 years. Think coastal Italy on the Med. Not cheap, but both food and presentation beautiful. Mussels in garlic sauce best in the world. Love taking guests to this eatery.”

Kabab Palace Inc
Mar 21, 2008 by Zwannah from Seattle

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Great food, great portions.
  • Gets really busy at lunch, can't find a seat.

“By far some of the best food I've ever eaten. I lived in Virginia for three years and ate at this place at least four times a week. Some of the best tasting food you could want. I've never eaten anything on the menu and didn't like it. It simply doesn't matter what you order, from lamb to chicken to beef to lentils to spinach, you will be satisfied. The portions are great, normally you would probably think they were giving you too much but ounce you start eating I guarantee you'll finish! My favorite is the Lamb Chop Kabab!”

Guajillo
Mar 11, 2008 by Gary from Lorton, VA

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Great menu, amazing warm salsa, soft lamb tacos, mole sauce.
  • Can be loud; long waiting without reservations on weekends.

“If you want authentic Mexican food and small atmosphere, this is the place! Although very crowded on weekends (lines out the door) and can get loud, it's worth the wait and reservation. Some specialties include: chips and amazing warm salsa (best we've ever had), chicken with Mole' sauce (chocolate) unbelievable! And their soft tacos (have a combo of three - chicken, carnitas and lamb)! They also have a great chocolate flan. We lived in CA and this place is great!”

Ray's The Steaks
Mar 3, 2008 by Mark from Washington, DC

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[7] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Good food at a reasonable price.
  • Rude staff, rushed meal, long wait for a table.

“Rays has good steaks at very reasonable prices, but if youre looking for a pleasant and enjoyable dining experience, you may want to look elsewhere. Most other reviews provide ample feedback on the food (which is good&be sure to try the crab bisque if you decide to go), so Ill just cover the elements that had a negative impact on my time at Rays. Expect to fight through the crowd waiting at the door to add your name to the waiting list, and dont be surprised when the shockingly rude and condescending hostesses are irritated that they have to interact with you. Technically, the restaurant doesnt take reservations, but seating times for the day are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Most people arrive hours before and request specific dining times (not a reservation?), so if you just show up when youre ready to eat, youre likely to wait two hours (three to four hours on a Friday or Saturday) before getting a table. Parking, ambiance and décor are non-existent, and although your food will come out very quickly (really, youll be surprised), you are expected (and reminded) to eat quickly and make room for waiting patrons.”

Ruby Tuesday
Dec 12, 2007 by Kimberly from Herndon, VA

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[7] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • Service not bad.
  • Food made me sick.

“On December 10, 2007 I ordered the petite sirloin with a salad and I got food poisoning. I could keep anything down for a whole day and I had a bad case of diarrhea. I believe the lettuce was left out too long and possibly contaminated on the bar. Avoid eating here at all costs. If you do go to eat here only get something fairly safe like a baked potato or fries. .”

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[3] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Service is fast.
  • Food not as good as it used to be and atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired.

“Years ago, used to be a very nice restaurant - friendly people and good food. Has really gone downhill lately and most of the dishes are very greasy and the premises needs a good cleaning. May improve in the future but someone else will have to give an update because won't be going there again.”

Cafe Italia
Nov 26, 2007 by Joanna from Silver Spring

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Nothing.
  • Everything.

“Food so bad we are still in shock. Bread was mushy and tasteless. Haven't seen this kind of lousy pseudo-Italian bread since the 1960s. Small pizza marguerite was also flavorless. We asked for a very crisp crust. What we got was lightly baked. Four salads were without flavor or color. Three of us asked for vinegar and oil, one for blue cheese. We were served four salads with gloppy bottled Italian dressing. My fettuccine with chicken and pesto was dreadful. The chicken was gray and flavorless like cafeteria "mystery meat." The pasta was way overcooked and the pesto (which they called "green basil sauce") was thin and flavorless. One order was screwed up entirely, even though the place was virtually empty - so not like the waiter was busy. Only one other table occupied when we ordered. He barely apologized, and then took forever to bring a replacement - why we don't know, since the place was still empty - only three tables (including us) occupied at the time. Atmosphere is awful - dark, dingy, with cheap faux-Tiffany lamps from the 1960s. A truly unpleasant evening. Avoid at all costs. There are dozens of restaurants on Restaurant Row. This one is terrible.”

  • Hey, it's a homegrown el Salvadoran restaurant with plates under $10 what's not to like?

“Good, basic and very authentic el Salvadoran food. Casual, family atmosphere, full of el Salvadorans along with a few gringos who know a where to find a good, cheap meal. Lots of local color (i.e. Univision on the TV and chanchona on the juke box). Plates for as cheap as $7 to $8.”

El-Ranchero Mexican Restaurant

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Great food, great quality, friendly service from Tamera, prompt and alert hostess
  • There's not one in my hometown!

“Food and service was excellent. I was in Johnson City for business and someone at my hotel recommended Cheddar's Casual Cafe. I had never even heard of this chain before, but was quickly impressed with everything and was glad I was told to check this restaurant out. Tamera, the bartender, took very good care of me and made me feel welcomed. Her great personality and humor, along with the friendly welcome by the hostess and great quality of food for the value, I will be sure to come back to Cheddar's if I am in the Johnson City area again!”

  • Not to eat in restaurant. Tables outdoors no bathrooms.

“I have been going to this restaurant for years. The steak & cheese (have them fry the onions) is absolutely fantastic! The pizza is like none other. I travel 30 miles to eat here when I can. My three sons love it. They have lots of other subs that are great. Joe and lefty have been there over 20 years! The workers love there.”

Jul 5, 2007 by Andrea from Waldorf, MD

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • With the service and food being fantastic, it is a surprise that there is such a short wait for tables.
  • Sometimes the strawberry shortcake sits out a little too long and gets dry.

“Metro 29 Diner has such a friendly atmosphere that it is always enjoyable meeting friends there for dinner. I have been there with my husband alone as well as with friends when celebrating birthdays and special times for the last 10 years. The staffs are not only friendly and get to know their loyal customers, they really do know their menus and are always accommodating when dealing with special orders. Thumbs up to you Metro 29!”

Ray's The Steaks
May 6, 2007 by noyfb from falls church, va

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[5] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Great food, fresh veggies and not overcooked.
  • World's worst "no reservations!" policy; noisy; won't cook-to-order!

“Must agree that the food is great. Having been an inveterate diner for over 35 years (everything from greasy spoons to 5-star salons!). Even after our hosts made several advance trips and phone calls to make sure our party of family and seniors would be accommodated, all we got were lame excuses and a longer wait. While our table sat empty! Heck, they even made a 90-year old lady wait out in the rain until we kvetched enough to be seated. But, folks here in dc are too much into punishment and put up with this rude treatment of customers to dine at a trendy place. Also bad is their mandatory cooking policies on some meat cuts. While I'm ok with rare or med rare, some want it more well-done for medical reasons or personal preference. Pretty nervy for a place to tell you how they will cook your steak when you are paying for the food. Since it was not my personal choice, and we were hosted by others, I would not return here regardless of how good the food was. They must have learned surly manners from the A.V. Restaurant downtown!”

Tom Sarris Orleans House
Apr 30, 2007 by B from NJ

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[2] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • Salad bar.
  • Meat, side dishes, drinks, service, hospitality.

“Run-down. Super-slow service and what we did get was the wrong order. The hostess ignored us, then scowled at us like we were interrupting her Nap, and then refused to seat us until every single member arrived. Waitress refused to give our party of business travelers separate checks or to divide the check after the meal for us, which was totally unsatisfactory and meant that many did not get reimbursed for the meal. The meat was flavorless, side dishes unimpressive, and drinks watered down. Tables and chairs smaller than usual. The salad bar was beautiful, though.”

Bob & Edith's Diner LLC
Mar 27, 2007 by Karen from Paradise, CA

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • Fantastic home cooking.
  • Close quarters and uncomfortable booths.

“We happened upon this diner quite by accident during a trip to Arlington to bury my father-in-law. We were very pleasantly surprised! The food was wonderful! They have many varied dishes we do not find often in our California breakfast haunts. Great grits, biscuits and gravy and even scrapple! The booths were not comfortable and it is truly a "diner" atmosphere but if you're looking for a great breakfast ignore the lack of atmosphere and belly up the best breakfast in town! We are heading back to DC to bury another relative in two days and we will be making our way back to Bob and Edith's!”

Nov 3, 2006 by Bam from Arlington

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[7] • Service:[4] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • Cajun Rib-eye steak.
  • Trying to enjoy a meal on a time schedule.

“Great steaks and salads, wine list is terrific, average side dishes, bad attitude. We were given a "window of opportunity" to eat our meal (6:30pm-8pm), and were not allowed to order an additional meal for a guest running a little late. That person had even less time to enjoy his meal. The steak could be the best in the area if it had atmosphere and respect to go along with it. Won't be eating there again. ”

I love there Lasagna and the pizza is delicious. I'll be back to try more of their dishes, especially their various chicken offerings. It would take a good 25 minutes just for the drinks. They'll bring you severely undercooked poultry and simply apologize and not try to make amends for almost getting you sick with some kind of food bacteria. ”
