“Food was inexpensive and mediocre tasting. The Margaritas were a huge disappointment.”

“We went here because we received a gift card. We had a party of four. We had ordered the 2 for 20 plates all around. The appetizers came 20 minutes after ordering along with our sodas, should have known it could only get worse from there - one was wrong - sent it back to get another five minutes later. The buffalo wings (appetizers) were so hacked with hot sauce none of us could enjoy them. The onion rings were the only thing we ate till the food arrived. When it did come the steaks were good, mine was with shrimp parmason topping, the shrimp were so spiced = again couldn't eat them, my husband ordered the steak and a baked potato instead of fries - after asking twice for it. it never came nor were we asked if we wanted it taken of our bill. 55 dollars later and I will never go again - if it wasn't for the gift card I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, unless you are going to the bar to drink or really like hot spiced food.”

“Its hard to find a good sushi restaurant, its harder to find people who know what that means. The soups are traditional, so don't expect broccoli and cheddar - expect simple and delicate. The sushi is fresh and flavorful. I've gone from a casual experimenter to a full-blown sashimi lover through constant sampling of the Japonica Menu. They are polite and friendly, and they offer carry out (which really helps me). I highly recommend it, but not for people looking for a fast burger!”

“To begin, the correct name of the restaurant is Sanford, not Sanford's. It is not a family restaurant, it falls under the category of fine dining. Chef is a Beard award winner and Sanford is consistently rated one of the top restaurants in the Midwest. The restaurant is upscale and the prices reflect that. On most weekends you will find as many diners from Illinois as you will from Wisconsin. Young children would definitely be out of place here. With those corrections laid out, Sanford is certainly the best restaurant in Milwaukee and compares favorably with the big name restaurants you would find in the food capitols of the US. The food is top notch and the service is without reproach. Veal Ragu Arancini, Glazed Squab and Cold Cured Foie Gras, Provincial Fish Soup and Seared Wild Striped Bass on Crab Hash are some of the dishes you will encounter. Save room for dessert as the Macadamia Nut Tart is a local classic. If you wished to experience true fine dining in Milwaukee this is the restaurant to choose.”

“The service at Japonica was very very slow. We arrived and sat down at 7pm and it took us 10 minutes for someone to take our drink order, then we finally received our drink order at 7:50pm. I personally did not enjoy the salad dressing, it may be all a matter of my taste, but the starter soup was nothing but broth and 3 very thinly sliced mushrooms. I felt that the value of service and food product was very poor for the money spent.”

“Great value, especially the lunch specials. Terrific selection -- everything from hibachi steak or scallops to sushi and sashimi to tempura. Can please all tastes here from carnivores to vegetarians. Service is efficient and polite. One of the more interesting restaurants in the Greenfield/Southbridge area.”

“I have traveled the world and I found it hard to believe that I could get Thai cuisine in the states as good as Taiwan. The coconut soup is to die for. Can't beat the luncheon buffet, all you can eat for under $10.00. Buffet usually includes four separate entries to choose from, 2 3 salads, 2 choices of soup and fresh fried clams and chicken wings. One will not leave hungry or disappointed. Go hungry with clothing that will give. Youll need it. .”

“I found this restaurant overpriced for some of the food served. The soup was like hot water with a few, very few, mushrooms. The thing that spoiled the whole meal was the big flaming using some kind of lighting fluid which gave the food a terrible taste of charcoal lighter fluid that hasn't been burned off sufficiently to get the petroleum taste out. It flavored the whole rest of the food. I would not go back for this reason. The hostess was very gracious and charming. The rest of the wait staff were like robots.”

“The Safe House might be Milwaukee's best-kept secret, in part because there is no actual sign advertising the restaurant. In true secret-agent fashion, you approach the entrance down a (safe and well-lit) alley, stopping in front of the open door marked International Exporters. You'll need to know the secret password to gain entry in a trouble-free manner, but fear not- new rookie agents can also gain entry after passing a brief spy test to prove their credentials. This is all part of the fun, so enjoy yourself as you twirl like a ballerina or spin like a runway model to pass your test. You may find a surprise waiting for you once you've entered the restaurant proper through the (of course) secret sliding door. The inside of the Safe House is pure 1960s Bond. Red lights, alarms, mysterious green canisters shooting about, and CCTV monitors share wall space with spy posters and old Cold War relics. There are different sorts of martinis- shaken, not stirred- and a nice section of drinks. The food menu is a little thin, but also cheap- good for lunch or for a lighter dinner meal. Everything is well-made and served quickly (and thankfully, the food does not arrive in a plain brown envelope). Overall the Safe House is a great fun place for a quick meal or some after-work drinks. If you can track down the secret password (and some folks do seem to know it), you can impress your friends, and perhaps make them wonder just what kind of secrets you've been hiding from them all these years. (tuxedo, spy car, and Bond girl suggested, but not required)”

“A Milwaukee classic. It has been around since the 1940's. Big burgers and great malts and shakes! Only open Spring, Summer, and may be Fall. Call ahead to see if they're open, but they are worth it! Good value for the meal you get. Worth treating yourself to a taste of yesteryear. Across the street from the north end of the airport.”

“My family and friends love the food especially the pizza and bruschetta. It can get loud but everyone just seems to be having a good time. It is a casual but classy environment. I have recommended the place to many and all have loved it. If you are in downtown Milwaukee and enjoy a great Italian meal then this is the place to stop.”

“Once you come here, and become a regular, you become family and they make you feel like you are family. It may be considered a "hole in the wall" but it's certainly a place to bring your closest friends, play your favorite music, and be able to socialize without the hassle of a crowded bar. It's got a great variety of regulars from older to young, and a variety of entertainment such as a pool table, music, video games, karaoke, darts, and food. I'd recommend it if you are looking for a non-club atmosphere.”

“The service is really good, they have a wonderful atmosphere, the only problem is that they don't have allotted of space inside. I'm waiting for the weather to warm up, so I can start sitting outside again, and then everything will be great. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a bite to eat, or some coffee. (I also recommend the hummus and pita plate *wink*).”

“I was in town for a conference at the Hyatt and stopped by for a late lunch across the street. I ordered the chicken marshal and it was extraordinary! I have never found better. The service was wonderful, as the wait staff was always smiling and seemed to always have time even though they were busy. I can't wait to come back!”

“Quaint restaurant, open odd hours, is reminiscent of diners of the 1960's, can see the cook make your food, awesome malts which you can order with breakfast, excellent prices, all around a good bargain a fun place to stop in. ”

“All the employees are very friendly and the service is fast. They wait till you¿re done with one course until they bring out the next, which is very convenient. They have the best crab ran goons and their food in general is great.”

“Salad was wilted with a cucumber slice at least 1 1/2" wide (white, not opaque) with 'waxed' skin. Yuck! Baked potato was "micros" or steamed; wrapped in tinfoil (these are not fresh). They could be nuc'd & then baked to crisp the skin. A production was made of serving bread covered with White linen. It was stone cold, so much for that. I asked for extra lemon to add to clarified butter, after 15 minutes my 20-some co-diners fished slices out of their water to give me. Took almost an hour to get our bill after finishing dinner. We did have separate checks, but there must have been only one math wizard with no adding machine tallying up. ”

“Loved it! One of the best! I dined here last night with a friend, we are both very picky Mexican-eaters, and we ate so much we could barely leave our seats. The chips and spicy salsa are awesome, the food was prepared well and came out hot, I absolutely loved it and I would eat here on a weekly basis. Great place for overindulging in some authentic Mexican treats!”

“Awesome food. A little strange atmosphere. Went there on a business trip and thought it was the best steak of my life a lot to say from a Dallas native. The filet is unbelievable and the pork chop delicious too.”

“There is something romantic about revolving 330 feet in the air at sunset while dining in candlelight. Wonderful experience, and am hoping to go back. The staff was highly professional and courteous, while the food was outstanding. Great wine. Highly recommend for a romantic night out.”
