User Reviews for New York City Restaurants« Go back to Ayr Travel GuideResearch User Reviews for New York City (61-80 of 224)Sardis Restaurant
“Well, we finally made it to Sardi's last weekend. We went down on Metro North, stayed at the Algonquin, ate at Sardi's, and saw a Broadway play: A Chorus Line. All in all it was a very good time. We were celebrating our 22 wedding anniversary. We had never been to Sardi's and wanted to check it out. It was, of course, pricy, but we expected that. I'm sorry to say that the food was pretty ordinary. My husband had the sirloin and I had, I think it was swordfish, afraid I've forgotten already. The waiter came around with cold slices of bread, served nicely but not very great. It was fun looking at all of the pictures on the wall. I had the molten lava cake for desert. It was okay. All in all, it was okay, service good, and over priced. We will try another place next time we go to the city.”

“We saw Sbarro Restaurant the first time, when we visited Florida. We didn't know Sbarro, because there's no Sbarro Restaurant in Europe and that's a pity. So when we visited Manhattan 2002 for our silver wedding, we looked for Sbarro Restaurant and we found it. We were very happy, because you can eat what you want and how much you want, it is not expensive at all, you don't have to wait like in others restaurants. We just hope, Sbarro Restaurant will come in Europe, too and specially in Luxembourg. We are sure, they would have a great success. The manager of this restaurant was very, very kind with us, we never forgot. We keep a good souvenir of Sbarro restaurant and we just can recommend it to all the tourists (and other people, too) who visit Manhattan.”

“My family found Scottys diner to be an extremely welcoming, friendly little diner serving excellent food. Hard to beat honest to goodness value with great service. The food was 'fresh' and served promptly. You can sit at your table and eat & drink at your leisure with attentive staff just making sure you have all you require. Would highly recommend to singles/groups/families of all ages and backgrounds.”

“Food is very expensive, portions are very very small, service is good, but the pizza at Johns after this dinner was better, definitely not worthy the price. Nothing to brag about it and I would recommend this place to nobody. The wine was good.”

“My sister and I went to Mesa for lunch, and we are both in our young twenties and the hostess and waitress both looked as us as if we were about to steal something. The bad service has nothing to do with the amazing food. We both love bobby and we will definitely go back again.”

“I absolutely love this place, the service is friendly and warm: it's the type of place simple people might feel out of place in until the waiters joke around and let you know that they don't take themselves so seriously although they wear tuxedo's. The food is phenomenal, I mean absolutely delicious well worth the price. Go during the late dinner session and you'll feel as though you've left Manhattan and gone to Italy for dinner. I had my wedding reception there and returned this year for my anniversary and I've yet to be disappointed.”

“This restaurant is just getting on its feet and maybe that attributes to the dismal experience. The service was not good. After I asked for a refill of my water, 30 minutes later it arrived. The cheese fondue was watery and did not stick to any of the items given to us to dip in. The process of cooking meat/fish was suspect and not explained well. The whole evening was not what we expected and took about 2+ hours to eat a 3 course meal that wasn't served cooked so I would not recommend this as a fine dining experience. Nor would I recommend this as a date location since you serve yourself and at times can be messy.”

“The food was out of this world. The best Italian Ive had out in years. The service was excellent. The restaurant is quaint. Not fancy and very clean. Take a chance on a small, unknown that you will definitely enjoy. Good value for the money was a plus.”

“Don't even think of going here. Not even on a freebie. Between my wife's family and mine, we have well over 100 years in restaurant and food service experience. So, when we go out, we agree not to nit pick or criticize, just enjoy. They have shoulder steak on the menu, a tough and dry cut Ive never seen served in a restaurant unless ground for burgers. I believe we were served shoulder steak with a rib bone next to it. Since it was carved by the staff off the table, this is entirely possible. The outer ring of meat that is the hallmark of the rib cut was totally absent. Think I loosened a crown on it, it was so tough. Tasted like what I would imagine horsemeat tastes like. Many other minuses, too many to relate. Paid our almost $200 bill, went home and had a really nice, rare, burger from sat mar meats in wills.”

“This place is really very cool! You enter and there are two doors to choose from. The one to the left which leads you into a very cool bar and the one to the right which leads you into the restaurant (that is unless that's changed but I doubt it). The waitress was really very helpful and polite and served us well. The food had rich quality and was absolutely delicious! Although the only thing I did not like about this place was that I could hear the people next to us' conversation. Maybe it was because they were business men and woman so they tend to be pretty loud and what-not. WELL, do not let that be the factor of your decision in regards to picking this place. It's really a very cool joint and I'm actually going back tomorrow.”

“Excellent for home cooked meals, served quickly. Waiters and waitresses have a good attitude about serving customers. Portions also good. Best dishes I like are omelets, spinach pie with Greek salad, pancakes and great desserts.”

“The menu was varied and had interesting choices. I especially like the wine list on the menu. Wines were well chosen and reasonable. A terrific restaurant to go to for a pre-theater dinner, service takes this information into account and makes sure you're out on time.”

“This is a great place to have breakfast or get a sandwich. Breakfast at your hotel will cost $25 30 ea. Breakfast here is reasonably priced. It is only a block or two from momma and a short walk to all the big tourist attractions. I eat there every time Im in NYC, and I send friends. It's not la Bernadine, but it is a good value.”

“I thought the food was going to be fantastic because of the great atmosphere and the fabulous Hollywood theme. What a disappointment! The service was slow and they brought me the wrong food. I had to wait so much I was almost falling asleep. The food was horrible. I've had better hamburgers at McDonalds. Besides plain awful, the food was incredibly expensive. I do not recommend this place.”

“Serafina on Madison Ave. advertises itself as "cozy romantic with warm Italian music." When we were there on 9-8-07, a Saturday at 7PM, the place was filled with kids, we had an infant and a three year old to our right and a five year old to our left and our tables literally touched. The "euro-trash" manager dressed in midnight black blasted techno dance music with a heavy base. He said he wanted to attract a young, hip crowd. He must have imagined that he was in a downtown club at 2AM. The food was good and the service was fast; they aim for a quick table turnover. The other NYC Serafinas were much better.”

“Wow! A friend recommended Daniela and we loved it. Wife and I had two different chicken dishes that were fabulous and huge portions for relatively small money. Service was prompt and the location was close to the theaters. I can't wait to go back to NYC to go back to Daniela. For the record, I have no connection to the owners (I don't even know who they are) other than being a very satisfied customer. Oh, my friend who recommended it is a food snob so if he says it's good and I confirm it you want to eat there. Total bill for wife and I with tip was about $40.”

“Unpretentious is how I would sum this up. Nothing too fancy, nothing too rushed. Perfect service, food was excellent-the pate filled Ravioli in Balsamic reduction is great. All in all, if you can get a table-go there. Everything made me feel good!”

“It was incredible, the service was the best I experienced in New York. The atmosphere is fantastic, you have hand prints of famous people all over the staircase, where you're eating, there are actual props from movies all around you, and it has large TV's playing music videos, but there not loud so it isn't interrupting your meal. The gist shop has sweatshirts, shirts, hats, stickers, and much more. I loved the whole thing. There was not one thing that I didn't like. I would recommend it to anyone looking to have a great meal in New York.”

“Go with a special s.o. Get a prime rib for two, cut at the table, so you can see all the juice flowing out of that awesomely cooked piece of meat. Supplement it with the tasty mashed potatoes and a glass of wine and you won't be sorry. Of course, what is dinner without dessert? Mixed berries and whipped cream are a classic, but if you want to go the whole 9 yards, get a chocolate soufflé with vanilla ice cream on the side and a gentle garnish of confectioner's sugar. Truly delightful! The dim lightning and the cozy light of the candles on the tables give you a sea of romance to indulge in. Service is at a good level, prompt, even in a full house. It can get a little noisy and sometimes s.o. Might turn the music up way too much, but the fix it up before it gets out of hand. Definitely the place to give your money, if you want big portions and good quality for your money.”

“This is the best spot in the neighborhood for a great breakfast. It's a New York Diner with great staff and a friendly attitude. Try the Challah French Toast or the Eggs with Corn beef Hash. We're locals living down the street in a condo and when we moved to New York, everyone suggested this spot for "Breakfast". You won't be disappointed. Go for the food...not the decor.”

“I had gone there with a friend on the basis of The New York Magazine review. After being there I have no idea what the stars represent. The food was very overpriced for what they gave you, It was like nouvelle cuisine Texas style. They had a big notation about their homemade white bread which tasted like it had just come out of the wonder bread wrapper and something in a butter cup which did not taste like butter, unless butter has a metallic after-taste. It seemed like it was a rip-off restaurant masquerading as good food- any diner in NYC delivers better fried chicken and potatoes at half the price.”

“I've been in the food industry for quite some time now so I think I am able to know whether I get good service or not when I go to a new place. With a bunch of friends, we went to Felix to have a late dinner (which is so annoying for the servers when customers show up late). Anyways, basically what happened is first of all, we waited too long just to get our server talk to us and even to get tap water. We got a bottle of wine, he poured wine all over the table, they were running out of bread, nobody cared to tell us the food was alright, nothing special but I think the service we had was the worst I've ever had in my entire life! The server did not care about our table and seemed mad at us! Why? Who knows? And last but not the least; they dared to add the gratuity on the check? We were only 4! On top of that, an other server came, we asked him to remove the gratuity and he started shouting at my friend! No respect at all, I was in shock and I will never go back again to that place.”

“This family owned restaurant is small but welcoming. Maria, the hostess treats every patron as member of her family. Having moved from nay several years ago, I was amazed not only that she recognized me and remembered where I moved to when I returned, but her son, teddy, who served as my waiter the first time I every visited, also recognized me. They portions are generous, the atmosphere is not pretensions, and the margaritas are great!”

“This is a destination for bachelor parties. If you send your party info. Ahead, they give you a reservation and then proceed to make you wait for hours, and are rude and unaccommodating. The food is mediocre at best. They ruined my best friend's bachelorettei we stood waiting for hours. If you offer a reservation for presigned parties, then honor them. I had friends who had traveled from 3 states away who were starving and we ended up leaving after two hours of waiting The management couldn't have cared less. If anyone suggests this place for a party or anything, run for your life! Horrible experience.”

“We should have walked away when the plastic cutlery was handed out and menus were simply thrown onto the table at which we assumed the staff wanted us to sit! Unfortunately we didn't. We ordered seafood linguine and chicken penne and this was the worst food I have ever had the misfortune to taste. The food was obviously not fresh and simply microwave ready meals or something akin to this. I was served with one piece of what I think was supposed to be garlic bread, but it was so stale that I had to leave it. My partner only had two prawns with shells on to make it look like the meal was fresh, but the rest was rubbery processed fish. The meals were so bad that we could not eat them and so probably had about ten mouthfuls. The only reason that they have survived must be because of all the 1 off tourists that flock to south seaport because nobody would go back a second time!”

Broadway Joes Steakhouse “We too didn't have the best experience while at BROADWAY JOES steak house. The reason we went in the first place was because we had a coupon for a 15 % discount on the meal and were attending a Broadway show that night so we though it would be a reasonable choice. The first bad experience we had with this restaurant was the online reservations. We called them to confirm the reservation (that were put in 6 months in advance mind you) and they stated 'no one ever checks are online Reservations so no we don't have you listed but can fit you in" Why have that option online available to customers if they don't even check on them?? So anyone who is looking to eat at this place, don't bother making online reservations. When we arrived The place was very crowded and uncomfortable. They were doing some renovating in the downstairs so we were forced to sit in the upstairs which was already crowded with people. The food was very expensive, and wasn't that good. I ordered a chicken Caesar salad, which cost near 25.00 and it was awful. It was loaded with parmesan cheese and had little dressing . The chicken was also dry. The mixed drinks were almost 12.00 a piece, and tasted off. The one other thing that bothered me about this place was the customer service. It was hard to tell who are waiter was because of all the people waiting on us. It was very Unorganized. Overall I would have to say I wouldn't go back here or recommend this place to anyone.”

“I completely disagree with the other review that asks for the pasta special to be removed from the menu. The pasta special is why I go to beckon. I have been to beckon over a dozen times and loved the pasta specials. The special is priced right, made in house and fresh, and served from the pan right at your table. The pasta is firm and fantastic. If you are lucky they will have mushroom ravioli as one of the specials. I do agree that the veal dishes are great but you better be hungry if you order both. No place in the city has a wine list with so many wines at $25 a bottle...”

“I travel worldwide, Beijing, Tokyo, Delhi, London, Paris, la, telaviv. I love going to ollies for the authentic ethnic cuisine. The service is typical for a restaurant run by people from china (hello, these guys speak fluent Chinese), i.e. When the food is ready, then it get's served. This may put off folks that are used to everyone's meal served at one time, I¿m used to the service now, they've never forgotten anything we ordered but we did have to wait for some items longer than others. Each item is carried to the table by different servers, it often worries me that they forgot the rice, but it always show up. Wish they had sweet/sour soup.”

“Walked in because it looked great place from the outside. The food on the menu looked appetizing if a little overpriced. It was downhill from there on. The steak was cold, the bread was cold. It food had been prepared well; it was hard to tell after it served. It reminded one of good food taken home refrigerated and then microwave. The service was worse. It seemed this was a hang out for the friends of the staff and they were just attentive. The last straw was when waiter announced only apex was accepted. Had to walk 6 blocks to get to a bank. The area itself left much to be desired when walking to the bank. Probably Felix is unable to get a credit card service because it has had too many issues with visa/MasterCard and unhappy customers. Went home and looked up the reviews, and apparently many more had experiences similar to mine.”

“I was on a consulting assignment in NYC for a couple of years and found the Plaza Espana by accident. It turned out to be my "cheers" and I spent many an evening at the cozy bar with pleasant companions, before having a good dinner served either by an argentine Spaniard or a Mexican caballero - in either case: you were "at home¿. The chef, as I found out, was from the Yucatan, but apparently had gotten the idea of food from the "Madre patria¿. No big deal, but a pleasant place away from home.”

“Went to water stone for brunch with a group of 6. I have been to water stone before for lunch but did not know they were open on weekends. everyone in my group was very pleased with the food and service. I got the quesadillas with fried egg and it came with sides of salsa and guacamole and sour cream and a little salad. Excellent. My friends were impressed with the hash browns and the little muffins you get with your meal. Also, I almost forget the reason why we were there for 3 hours. Unlimited drinks for 10 bucks. Actually we got the option of 1 complementary drink or unlimited for 10 bucks. great touch to a great brunch.”
