User Reviews for New York City Restaurants« Go back to Campbellsville RestaurantsResearch User Reviews for New York City (21-40 of 223)Robert Emmetts, Restaurant
“I met a friend for dinner before a show. This restaurant was convenient. The atmosphere was inviting. We were seated immediately, the place was pretty empty at 6 pm. We ordered drinks, they were overpriced and subpar. Not all items on the menu had prices, the soup, the desserts, only some of the drinks. The waiter seemed annoyed that we asked for the price. I ordered the sea food fra diavlo, it was a little pricy. The fra diavlo was very good as was the calamari. The scallops were chewy and tasteless. I would not go back.”

“New Amity is your basic Greek diner. The food is fresh and tasty, service is extremely prompt, and for the regulars, it's like home away from home. It has the usual chaotic, busy feel of any NYC diner, but, as a diner maven, I have to say this is one of the best. They do wonderful breakfasts (love the hash brown potatoes with eggs over easy, fresh squeezed orange juice and endless cups of coffee), and my dinner favorite is their spinach pie with a side Greek salad (feta cheese, olives, etc.). They do a fabulous chef salad, too. Like most diners, they have a huge menu, but I always stick to my favorites. And, of course, they deliver.”

“I felt the food was nothing out of the ordinary. The clam chowder had very little taste, especially a flavor of clams. My pasta dish was bland and had nothing that made it memorable.”

“My husband and I were at the restaurant on the 9th December 2008 and what a gem of a place, the food was wonderful and the staff was so friendly that we went back a few nights later, as there were so many places to eat there on 44th street. The food was wonderful both nights and the cocktails great, the staff add to the atmosphere of the restaurant you can't fault anything about it and we will certainly be back on our next trip to New York.”

“We heard that there were no excellent restaurants, reasonably priced near Madison Square Garden. Well this is not true. We dined at Niles Restaurant which is diagonally across the street from Madison Square Garden. We had 3 different meals and all were great. I had the crispy duck, my wife had Shrimp with angel hair pasta, under $20 and my daughter and her husband had lamb chops. Portions were very good, service was impeccable and everything was reasonably priced for NYC. We would go back there again in a minute.”

“Basically, this is a sports bar with an upstairs restaurant set in 1800's steakhouse saloon decor. Very deceiving, as it is warm & rather clean for NYC. Breakdown on the meal: rolls were 2-day old & reheated; butter was the highlight of the meal; salad was below McDonald's quality; steak was large, but very tough; pasta was overcooked & sauce was bland; chicken was tough & rubbery; pork medallions were an absolute joke, 3 silver-dollar sized & 1/4" thin, and without taste to boot; chicken pot pie was white gravy poured over undercooked veggies, not even worthy of feeding to dog! Service was even worse, if you can imagine that! Never saw the wait staff after service, never had drinks refilled, had to share utensils because staff was nowhere to be found.”

“19 members of the staff took a party of 130 teenage students from the U.K. to the Jekyll and Hyde club a couple of nights ago. I can't actually recollect a meal I've had as bad as this one. They were charged over $50 a head for undercooked burgers (many were actually frozen inside!) and pizza which simply defied description. We came in three equal sized groups; out of the first 70 meals, which came out, about 58 were returned. These meals later came out of the kitchen still undercooked. Our students aren't particularly fussy, but there wasn't a single positive comment about it. Having put the health of our students at risk on this massive scale during a holiday for which the children had saved for two years, I had no option but to contact the city Health Department. The kitchen of this establishment can't be functioning properly with this level of problem evident, Avoid this place! We certainly will. Absolutely appalled. I hope that the city shut it down.”

“The place is warm and friendly. The prices are average for mid-town, but the portions are well worth the price. The menu has something for everyone. I have tried many items, but only because try my guest food. Other wise I can't stop ordering the Tarte Flambee pizzas, mussels, shrimp & scallop apps. and the rack of lamb or steak Au Poive. Then we hit Carnegie Hall and come back later for dessert and drinks, because Seppi's is always open until 2am. I can't say enough about this place I love it. I am so glad I found this place.”

“For $42.50 for overcooked hambergers and chicken strips with fries, this restaurant is over done. Unfortunately the same can be said for the lame show that accompanies your meal. It is almost just as lame filled with unknown wannabes and mysterious waitresses who leave you guessing when to expect your dinner albeit 45 minutes after ordering. I would pass up the $42.50 entree and spend a little bit more on a good broadway play and midtown restaurant with decent food and service, all of this lacking from this horror restaurant, which truly in its own respect is a horror when it come to good food and service.”

“We were excited to visit MG. We were seated in a group of tables for two that actually was like a long banquet table with conversations and elbows lapping over. We split a BBQ quesadilla for an appetizer and it was tasty enough, but pricey for what you actually get. We each had the famous strip steaks with house sauce and when they came out, I was given my husband's medium (very red) and so we switched them ourselves, but my med-well was just as red. So they kindly took it back to cook it more (although I was embarrassed to send it back of course) and then somehow it became a nightmare and didn't come out, so they finally apologized and took my husband's back to keep it warm. We ate our sides of overpriced over-salty fries and Chile relenos (it was ok, but so-so) and then after about 45 minutes, they finally brought the steaks back out and duplicate sides (which they could've kept). They were about the toughest steaks and overly rubbed and slated and sauced I've seen - ok. So we're from Texas, but I really thought this was going to be the best thing I'd ever had. I really had hoped the meat would at least be fantastic. Then we did try the desserts - very pricey again for what you get. Creme Brulee - ok, but again not the best I've had and the cornbread pudding was ok. This was a Tuesday night about 7:30 pm to start and we again were all squished in like sardines. So the place has to get it right most of the time. Guess we just didn't hit it on a night with a great chef. in the background for certain. I was disappointed to the point of being heartbroken for traveling all that way to end up with a meal like the one we had! The server was unhappy with the kitchen, but it surely wasn't her fault!”

“It was very easy to find and very convenient for our hotel on Times Square. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. Our appetizers were delicious, (the largest portion of Prosciutto and Melon I have ever seen) and our steaks were fantastic and cooked exactly the way we requested. The side orders were easily large enough for two to share. All waiters were very attentive and kept our wine glasses topped up. We both thoroughly enjoyed our evening. The only negative comment I have is that the greeter spent more time talking to her friend who was passing by than greeting potential customers.”

“My friend and I went to the restaurant. I ordered Rotisserie chicken with challah and granny smith apple stuffing which were to come with carrots and mashed potatoes, my dish did not have any apples and I was given 7 very small diced potatoes. Her Sheppard's pie was to her satisfaction; our dessert was a horrible rendition of a crème brlée it was watery and bland. Our bill came up to $116.88 we wanted to split it down the middle on two different debt cards. The waiter wasn't competent enough to accomplish that.”

“This is a really cheesy tourist trap place. Besides the food being horrid, they falsified my credit card slip to make a $5.00 tip into a $50.00 tip! I'm still fighting it out with my bank who's giving me a hard time because I didn't keep the receipt. The fudging of the tip amount was done after bunch of crooks!”

“Small kids loved it. Although was disappointed waiters were not dressed up. Older kids thought it was ok- Think they were looking for more ghoulishness from staff-like a haunted house--none of that though. Ate lunch 1pm. Top floors off limited to look at. Food was the pits have potential though if they could spare the cheese and lettuce on the burgers and change the buns to something edible. How do you make a child eat a hockey puck! My 11 year old said the place was filthy-his words not mine. Shame, dropped a small fortune, you expect to a decent meal even though it was a theme place.”

“It was a nightmare! The food was disgusting. I order a ceaser salad. Whoever heard of eggs in Caesar salad? The onion rings taste like White castle frozen. Then they billed me three times on my credit card. I ate there on the 11th of July and they charged my card two other times after, on the 25th and 29th.”

“This place was horrible! The food was disgusting and it was not cheap. The service was even worse! The waiter had an attitude and never came to check on us. Why should he work when the gratuity was automatically added into the bill? When we asked to speak to the manager he lied and said he was not there. When the manager finally did come over he gave us another song and dance about our bill. And to top it all off, probably to get back at us for complaining, they ran our bill through 2 times and we got charged twice for that horrible meal. My advice, stay away from that place. I guess they probably only stay in business because they have one time tourists as their clientele.”

“Our surly waiter reluctantly waited on us with no greeting. Took his time to serve us and while we waited for a refill of our water glasses we watched him stand around for 20 minutes. We asked to speak to a manager who he said was not in - but he was. Finally when we talked to the boss about the atrocious service we wanted to have him remove the automatically added in gratuity he said it would talk 2-3 days to make this change. The food was barely edible as well. How this place survives is a miracle.”

“I travel a lot to New York and dine in Upper West restaurants near my regular hotel. I found Talia's Steakhouse to be one of the best spot. The food is great and the service is friendly and professional. I enjoyed the outdoor cafe and the live band. The only problem is that Talia's is closed on Friday night. Nonetheless, I highly recommend this establishment.”

“This was one of the best pastry shops in New York (my family, being NYC natives, can attest to that), but in 2004 the soaring rent and newfound health-consciousness of old customers forced this cute, delicious old shop to shut down. I repeat Jon Vie is no longer in business! This is quite a shame, as many previous customers still fondly remember their tasty pastries.”

“We here wanted a good steak, and what we had was a Great steak! We had the Filet Mignon - it was cooked to perfection - it just melts in your mouth. Not an ounce of fat or gristle! We tried Black Opal Wine with our meal - im no expert on wine, but this was delicious! The service was great - waiters very attentive, but not intrusive - they just turned up at the table at exactly the right time. The atmosphere was very relaxed too. We weren't hurried, and nobody was "hovering", waiting to clear the table the second we got up. Id certainly go again.”

“It was a total mistake coming here. The food was the biggest issue for me and the other 3 people in our group. It all tasted good going down but 3 of us got sick, 2 violently sick vomiting while the 3rd just had a bad stomach ache. Lucky for my friend, she didn't get sick at all. We had a few beers with our food and the bill for the 4 of us came to $180, that's crazy for bad bar food and lame entertainment! Definitely do not waste your time or money going to this place.”

“DINNER - What can I say, this is my all-time favorite, must-do restaurant in NYC. Every visit I have to dine here! OK, so our most recent visit (3/26/08), a Wednesday, we called early in the day but the only reservations were after 8pm, so we went to a show in the afternoon then walked over to Carmine's, the wait was 1 1/2 hours. We put our names on the list (Party of 4) and used the time to check into our hotel and freshen up. We returned about 1-hour later, check that we were not called early, and waited about 20 minutes more. We were seated in the back, on a raised area which gave us a great view of the entire dining area. We could see the food being delivered at the other tables. We started with a salad, then a Stuffed Artichoke (YUM!). The artichoke is great. We ordered Lasagna and the night's special a stuffed pork chop. The server steered us away from a full order of the pork chop and thank goodness, because even with the half order we could not finish it all. The lasagna was plenty to split 4 ways, the pork chop was delicious and was served with mashed potatoes and spinach. Sadly, in all the times I have dined here, I have never had room for dessert, on one visit I will have to go late one night just for dessert. Well worth the cost, I cannot rave enough about this place.”

“Visited Becco for the first time Friday, March 28, 2008 at 1:00 in the afternoon. Service was good, although we were seated in a corner by a wall. Told the waiter we were not happy with the seat, but were not offered another even though one was available the entire time we were there. Food was plentiful, but somewhat bland. Nice wine list. Before paying the check, a mouse ran across the room and under the unoccupied table next to us. Two other diners also saw this and told the waiter who informed the hostess. She came to the table to apologize, but did not so much as offer a complimentary cup of coffee. My daughter and I thought this a bit odd. Perhaps this is not an unusual sighting at this restaurant. I will not go back, nor would I recommend Becco. We draw the line at rodents, especially while the restaurant was right in the middle of a busy lunch.”

“Well, we finally made it to Sardi's last weekend. We went down on Metro North, stayed at the Algonquin, ate at Sardi's, and saw a Broadway play: A Chorus Line. All in all it was a very good time. We were celebrating our 22 wedding anniversary. We had never been to Sardi's and wanted to check it out. It was, of course, pricy, but we expected that. I'm sorry to say that the food was pretty ordinary. My husband had the sirloin and I had, I think it was swordfish, afraid I've forgotten already. The waiter came around with cold slices of bread, served nicely but not very great. It was fun looking at all of the pictures on the wall. I had the molten lava cake for desert. It was okay. All in all, it was okay, service good, and over priced. We will try another place next time we go to the city.”

“We saw Sbarro Restaurant the first time, when we visited Florida. We didn't know Sbarro, because there's no Sbarro Restaurant in Europe and that's a pity. So when we visited Manhattan 2002 for our silver wedding, we looked for Sbarro Restaurant and we found it. We were very happy, because you can eat what you want and how much you want, it is not expensive at all, you don't have to wait like in others restaurants. We just hope, Sbarro Restaurant will come in Europe, too and specially in Luxembourg. We are sure, they would have a great success. The manager of this restaurant was very, very kind with us, we never forgot. We keep a good souvenir of Sbarro restaurant and we just can recommend it to all the tourists (and other people, too) who visit Manhattan.”

The food was 'fresh' and served promptly. You can sit at your table and eat & drink at your leisure with attentive staff just making sure you have all you require. Would highly recommend to singles/groups/families of all ages and backgrounds.”

“I absolutely love this place, the service is friendly and warm: it's the type of place simple people might feel out of place in until the waiters joke around and let you know that they don't take themselves so seriously although they wear tuxedo's. The food is phenomenal, I mean absolutely delicious well worth the price. Go during the late dinner session and you'll feel as though you've left Manhattan and gone to Italy for dinner. I had my wedding reception there and returned this year for my anniversary and I've yet to be disappointed.”

“This restaurant is just getting on its feet and maybe that attributes to the dismal experience. The service was not good. After I asked for a refill of my water, 30 minutes later it arrived. The cheese fondue was watery and did not stick to any of the items given to us to dip in. The process of cooking meat/fish was suspect and not explained well. The whole evening was not what we expected and took about 2+ hours to eat a 3 course meal that wasn't served cooked so I would not recommend this as a fine dining experience. Nor would I recommend this as a date location since you serve yourself and at times can be messy.”

“Don't even think of going here. Not even on a freebie. Between my wife's family and mine, we have well over 100 years in restaurant and food service experience. So, when we go out, we agree not to nit pick or criticize, just enjoy. They have shoulder steak on the menu, a tough and dry cut Ive never seen served in a restaurant unless ground for burgers. I believe we were served shoulder steak with a rib bone next to it. Since it was carved by the staff off the table, this is entirely possible. The outer ring of meat that is the hallmark of the rib cut was totally absent. Think I loosened a crown on it, it was so tough. Tasted like what I would imagine horsemeat tastes like. Many other minuses, too many to relate. Paid our almost $200 bill, went home and had a really nice, rare, burger from sat mar meats in wills.”
