“Absolutely the best place for burgers & fries and great Shag Music by the DJs. We love them all. The atmosphere is electric and the dance contagious. With indoor and outdoor dance floors the shaggin's going on from afternoon to late into the night. It is the best place on the beach.”

“Staff was excellent. Food was even better. The waiter made you feel like you were his only customer. Would definitely go back again.”

“Tar Babys is a great breakfast buffet. It's very cheap, and very close to Ocean Boulevard. Wonderful way to start the day!”

“The restaurant is mostly for smokers. The non smoking area was a few tables in a hallway type area. To get to the small and cramped non smoking area my family had to walk thru the smoking area. The waitress was friendly and the food was average. The owner was an old lady with a hoarse raspy smokers voice and of course a cigarette dangling from her lip. She was condescending and arrogant. Worst dining experience we have ever had.”

“Our experience dining at Umbertos was very good. The service was great, the food was tasty, and portions were large for the price. The zuppa demare and the veal fradiavalo (which cannot be easily found) were excellent. The sauce for the zuppa was not oily which can be the case and the marinara on the side with the veal was light as it should be. I would come back to Umbertos again but am somewhat hesitant due to other reviews saying that management yells at customers if the food and service is questioned.”

“This was absolutely the worst dining experience I have ever had! It was so unreal I felt as though I was on a hidden television show! I went to this restaurant on my sister's 16th birthday while on vacation. It was our second trip there in that week. The first time we went we had a party of 11 people and spent good money in the restaurant. Even though the staff wasn't the best we enjoyed the food and decided to go back (this time with 6 people). We ordered an appetizer, wine and 6 entrees, each around $20. Two of the people (including the birthday girl) had ordered steaks that tasted very dry and un-fresh. We politely told the waiter of the problem and requested that their meals be replaced with something different. Everything seemed fine until a man who I assume was the manager aggressively approached our table claiming that the steaks were fine. Then a woman (who I believe is the owners daughter) came over and started yelling at us, waving her arms and causing a huge scene in the restaurant. We all sat there in shock as the two screamed at us! At this point we started to get upset because they had completely ruined our evening. We told them that we would never come back and the woman told us we weren't welcome back and the man told us to get them out. At this point, the chef (who is very large) had come out as if he were a bodyguard, as well as most of the staff. Finally, they walked away and had our waiter bring over the bill (which included everything we ordered, including the steaks that were sent back, barely touched). Meanwhile, a table nearby told the woman how appalled they were by the way she and the other gentleman had handled that situation. The woman rudely responded by telling them that their opinion didn't matter and she didn't care if they came back either. My family and I were very upset, didn't finish our meals and paid the bill in full to avoid anymore chaos. The entire staff then stood at the door as we walked out. I am not saying that the menu is terrible because many of their items are actually quite good. However, if you do happen to order something that isn't to your liking or tastes bad, just remember you're stuck with it because management could careless about satisfying its customers!”

“I'd have to say since we ate here three nights (two in a row!) out of a week that the food was wonderful! Everything on the menu was excellent and we just about tried it all! Family of six with lots of sharing. The atmosphere is surely bearish but I did notice lots of families with small children. There was a great waitress who tended to all our needs top notch! Prices seemed steep for a bar type environment but the food was good enough to justify the cost. I didn't like eating in the dark back corner on our last night there, obviously the kid section as it was quite messy with food in the chairs and on the floor around us. Didn't change the food though!”

“The food was absolutely excellent! Everything tasted wonderfully good. I would love the recipes of the bean dish they serve first and then the tomato dish they serve second before your entree is served. They were both as good as my meal. The prices were a little high but not for what you got. I'd say you get your money worth by all means. We were allowed to take home the bottles of wine that were not finished. Nice plus! Highly recommended if you love real authentic Italian food!”

“This is by far the best restaurant in the Myrtle Beach area if you like great (not fried) food.”

“We went to Preston's in April with a party of 6, 4 of which were out of town guest. Some had buffet and other ordered from the menu. This was absolutely the worst food we have ever tried to eat. The waitress took plates of food back to kitchen with not ever a question as to why. I got sick from eating one oyster. I would advise all to steer clear of Preston's. Very expensive for food we were not able to eat!”

“The captain's plank was a great surprise! the food was wonderful. They had something for everyone in our group. all of the items were great, the vegetables didn't taste like they came straight out of a can. The seafood tasted fresh and not frozen and thickly breaded. the server was very friendly. the prices were the best we have found on the beach! this place is not fancy, but its clean. Our family prefers the mom and pop places over the chains any time! wish this place was closer home! everyone should take their family to the captain's plank, it's the best on the beach!!!”

“Great food at a fair price. Local hangout, kind of a beer joint atmosphere but with cloth napkins. Be sure to try the crab dip!! Good bet for Happy Hour! Great place for golfers.”

“If you want to eat where the locals go this is it. Steer clear of those food bars like Giant Crab. Sea Merchant is great seafood for a fair price. The crab cakes are the best in Myrtle Beach.”

“The captains plank is a great restaurant for everyone! they offer country and seafood. The price was very reasonable compared to all the rest. Another great thing was that it isn't a chain, its local people that care that you enjoy your food and care if you come back or not. My family prefers a locally owned place over a chain any day! You can't beat the food or the price at this place, its the best! The homemade mashed potatoes and fried squash was my favorite! The boiled shrimp and crab legs were out of this world! You miss out if you don't try it.”

“The captain's plank has everything anyone could want. It is locally owned and operated, not a chain. It has great home country cooking, and wonderful fresh seafood! unlike a lot of the restaurant chains, this locally family owned restaurant appreciates your business! It really is what a hometown restaurant is suppose to be, its not about fancy and elaborate decor, just good food at great prices! Our family has always loved this place and highly recommend it to everyone!”
