• Great service, friendly people, great food.
• There was nothing I disliked.

“For my first time at Nick's, I had a wonderful experience. I went there with a couple of people and I would definitely go back with more. The servers are internationally spread and knowledgeable about the restaurant and the island. The food was reasonably priced for the quantity they give. I was most excited about their all-you-can-eat crab legs. Even though I did not personally have them, my guests enjoyed them and found that they were delicious. I had the filet. They cooked it to perfection and topped it off with caramelized onions and mushrooms. I would recommend this restaurant to friends who are coming to have a great meal. The atmosphere is also kid-friendly.”

“The food was excellent in taste, but was pricey for the portions. They had a kids menu but also expensive for younger children. Sushi was wonderful but again very small rolls for the price.”

“Worst service we have ever had. Started with drinks in the bar during happy hour. We could not get waited on so we went to the bar and served ourselves. When we went for our 7:30 reservation, the waiter only came after we requested some one take our order. When we asked for a substitution to the menu item the waiter was rude and later yelled at me when I made a comment to a friend seated next to me. Our party of five got up and left with out ever eating.”

• Fun, friendly and great water view.
• Doesn't open until 4:45 pm. We rode around till it did!

“We got there early for the 50 cent oysters on the half shell and drinks. Staff was friendly, attentive and efficient. Two dozen oysters later our appetites were sated. Crowd was fun and seemed to enjoy this seafood spot tremendously! Bought great long-sleeve t-shirts too!”

• Food not very good and is expensive.

“Food is neither good or bad. Down the middle and nothing special. Chips and Salsa, which are normally free, costs almost $4.00 and no refills. Service is so-so. I think that it used to be better but have changed menu over the years and now it is not very good.”

“Ate there 7 years ago. WONDERFUL! Traveling through on 11/15/08 ate there 2 out of 2 times. Food-WONDERFUL! Service was terrible. Man running cash register/serving was one grumpy man, needed happy pill. Atmosphere. The bulldogs are a wonderful football team it has nothing to do with Mardi Gras, New Orleans, Louisiana, or cajuns.”

“Waitress with the personality of a dead house plant. If there was an Ice Skating Rink, I could have used my steak for a Hockey Puck. The Restrooms strong resemblance to that of a Train Station 3.”

• Good crab legs, friendly server.
• Very rude manager, too hot in restaurant, fired shrimp was over cooked.

“My family has been coming to Aunt for many years and have always had good experiences. However, this year we had such a terrible time that we will probably not return. We eventually were seated in the bar area that was very hot and loud. We had a party of 12 and we could barely hear each other. We waited over an hour before we received our food. The manager was very rude when we inquired about the extended wait period. She was extremely rude to my father when he told her how long we had been waiting. She accused him of having too much too drink when he only had one beer. I was shocked when I heard what she said. I will never go to this restaurant again.”

• Long waits on fireworks night.

“San Miguels is one of my favorite restaurants on the Island; whenever I'm visiting Hilton Head, I make sure to eat dinner here one evening. The food is always excellent, and the wait staff pleasant. You can sit outside and eat your meal, and they usually have live music as well. If you're there in the summer, just be sure not to go on Tuesday nights, or to get there very early on Tuesdays, because that is the night of the fireworks and they're usually very busy. Overall though, it's a great place!”

• Very good food.
• Very small (you need to go early to avoid a long wait) and dark inside.

“This restaurant is just great. The food is always wonderful, and I've always had good service there. I've been going to Hilton Head every summer for many years, and my family always makes a point of going to this restaurant. It is very small, so you definitely have to get there early if you don't want to experience a long wait, especially if you are with a larger group.”

• Great grouper and scallops and the filet to die for kid were happy!
• Too busy! Much better than the kingfisher next door we went their first.

“I can only agree with everything written below we were so disappointed with our food and service. We asked to speak to the manager and were told he/she wasn't there. Pathetic. Our food was not brought out at the same time, people in our party had to wait while their food got cold for everyone to be served drink refills were non-existent, and to have a gratuity auto added for that was a slap in the face we reduced it and I thought the waiter was going to have a fit his attitude stunk the entire meal, we even heard him huffing and puffing when he left our table to get something he forgot!”

“Two words: don't go! A few more words: past its prime, used to be a lot better - don't know what's happened to this place. Almost as if they've gotten a little too taken with them. We felt ripped off, spent a ton of money - should've gone to a seafood buffet instead. They have not changed that menu ever I think. Seafood platter was tasteless and dry and expensive. When asked by our server how our meal was, we told her it wasn't very good - she said, and I quote, "sorry" and walked off! If I hadn't heard it myself, I would never have believed it.”

“Well pam, a year later and nothing's changed. We do not recommend this restaurant. Seafood does not taste any better than chain restaurants and the prices are way over the top. Additionally you do not get high caliber service - wait staff has a patronizing attitude and it is so transparent. Obviously caters to tourists and I can imagine what they say about them in the kitchen.”

“We have been going to hoi for many years and have never been treated so poorly at a restaurant there or anywhere else for that matter! We had reservations for five and were escorted to a small table which clearly held only four. We were getting nowhere with the hostess so we asked to speak to the manager. He arrogantly told us that they seat five at that size table all the time and would do nothing for us. Looking around, they were many empty tables, which never filled during our stay. We squeezed in, sitting someone at the end, knees and plates touching. It was very uncomfortable, especially when food and wine arrived.”

• Probably not a restaurant to bring little kids to.

“Wonderful dining experience for my family. I would recommend it for couples and families (may not be the best place for little ones). We had been to many restaurants on Hilton head and were very disappointed. But catch 22 changed all that! Catch 22's food was fresh, creative, and tasty. The atmosphere was relaxing and our waiter was attentive. The owner was present and I could tell that he takes pride in his restaurant and wants to ensure you enjoy your dining experience. I had the Mediterranean pasta dish, which married the flavors of feta cheese, calamite olives, scallops, shrimp, and lump crab. My mother had a potato encrusted black sea bass atop a bed of argali and vine ripe tomatoes. She is also on a rather specific diet and her meal requests were welcomed by our server- not a problem at all. The chef happily cooked her meal without butter and she was able to make several other small adjustments. My father thoroughly enjoyed the petite filet, which he requested with gorgonzola cheese. Both my parents cleaned their plates, something I rarely see them do, and got the chance to compliment the chef. Overall, catch 22 was a pleasant end to our vacation in Hilton head. I would definitely recommend it to anyone on the quest to find a relaxing restaurant with delicious food. Reservations recommended.”

• No parking beside the restaurant. Have to park and walk a ways.

• Opportunity to share my bad experience with 6-8 people in the restaurant who requested my opinion before I left.
• The bread was decent.

“I requested a table by the window to enjoy the advertised view. I was seated at the bar supposedly until my table was ready. Though seating became available, I was required to eat my meal at the bar. It was very noisy with three TVs, staff slinging plates, one staff spent company time talking loudly on her cell phone in a confined area. Though I complained, the staff at the cash register said, "There is nothing that I can do.¿ I had to pay a mandated 15 % gratuity though I received NO service. The staff put the plate in front of me and that was it. With a lot of effort I got one staff's attention that reluctantly brought me bread. I took the shrimp to my cat. Usually I can pull the shrimp apart into bite size pieces. The shrimp was so overcooked that I had to cut it with a knife. Even the cat refused to eat it. Shrimp is his favorite food. I am reporting this incident tot all tourist agencies and restaurant regulatory boards. The Kingfisher is also guilty of false advertising. A mandated 15 % gratuity reinforces negative behavior. Alt least the staff is consistent in poor service and poor attitude. The philosophy of this restaurant is ¿Too bad for tourists. Not to worry. They will go home. So long, Yawl."”

Red Fish Restaurant

“My family and I had an awful experience at this establishment. In fact this was my kids first experience with racism. We went to Red Fish one evening while vacationing in Hilton Head. We didn't have to wait long and were escorted to a table in the back of the room hidden by a wine rack. We were the only ones back there and it was dark. The hostess said she was going to turn on the lights. The waitress came and brought us a tiny penlight for us to read the our menus by. At this point I should add that we were the only African American people in the room. After a while the hostess came back and said she could not get the lights to work. When we informed her that this was unacceptable she then offered us the table next to us which had some filtered light from the rest of the room. We politely decline and left. As we were leaving we passed several empty tables both inside and outside on the deck that were well lit. These tables were in the middle of the other guests. I guess we were not considered good enough to mix with the others. My husband and I worked too hard to spend our money in a place where we are not welcome. Owner, management and staff of Red Fish should be ashamed of this kind of treatment.”

“Really authentic Italian food at great prices. They mainly specialize in you guessed it, pasta dishes. Our meal was wonderful, service was outstanding, etc. The portions are large and the bread is excellent. For an even better deal try them for lunch. Note: the restaurant is rather small and cozy, so I wouldn't plan to show up with a large group and expect seating right away, especially on a Friday Saturday night.”

“I had a very terrible experience at the Red Fish. I was with three other people, my husband, my aunt and my uncle, we had made reservations for dinner at 7:30pm on Friday, Oct. 21, 2005. The reservations were made the evening before to be sure we would have a nice table. When we arrived the appearance was lovely with the bar and the store in the center of the resturaunt. We only had a short wait for the host to seat us. Upon entering the resturant I noticed that some of the tables were nice sized for four persons and had table cloths on them. We were escorted to a table in the center of the room, which was a small size table with no table cloth, so I was already dissappointed, when the host pulled out my chair to seat me there was a serving tray with water puddles of water on the seat. Neither I nor the host saw the tray and I sat in the water. I was horrified and reacted by jumping out of my seat. I was so upset because my capris and underwear were all wet and I knew that I would not be able to enjoy my dinner if I were uncomfortable. The Host tried to help by changing chairs and giving me a napkin, but the napkin was not cotton and the seat was uncomfortable and I left the restaurant very upset and caught a taxi and went home. I changed my clothes and was talked into going back to the restaurant and having dinner. I was very unhappy with the service. Upon our return to the restaurant my aunt and uncle order another drink and their dinner, my aunt told the waitress to get their drinks and come back so my husband and I could order. Fifteen minutes later my uncle had to go look for someone and ask why no one had returned with the drink order or to take our order. I could not believe that the waitress did not ask my husband and I what we wanted to drink. Also, we had to ask for water. My dinner was disgusting, I asked for my steak to be plain, it was sitting in somekind of Rosemary gravy and the augrautin potatoes were on top of the sauteed spinach and they were in the gravy also. This was the worst meal of my life. I would never go back again and I will tell everyone I know that is going to Hilton Head not to eat the Red Fish.”

• The best chicken fingers and wings! Love their homemade dressings!
• Sometimes it is a little loud!

“We have been eating at this restaurant since it was in Coligny Plaza on Hilton Head(many years ago!). They have the best wings and the best chicken fingers in the world! It is a fun place to eat with your family. The food and atmosphere have been consistent for years! We love Wild Wing so much that we have also eaten at their restaurants in Asheville, N.C. and Athens, GA. My family highly recommends Wild Wing! A trip to Hilton Head would not be the same without at least one meal at Wild Wing!”
