Vetri
Sep 9, 2008 by dave from bloomington, Indiana

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4

  • Wine and beer lists were good.
  • The food was not that good for the price.

“The food was not as good as meals found in chain places to eat. I will never go back there. Also, very expensive for what you get.”

Geno's Steaks
Aug 30, 2008 by Tricia from Bayonne NJ

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[8] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Long line moved very quickly.
  • Wait on 2 lines. One for steak and other for drinks and fries.

“The steak was good. They use real steak and it wasn't greasy or fatty. The roll was soft and tasted good. We had the wiz without onions. Both my husband and I enjoyed it and the kid loved it. I just think the hype about the Best Cheesesteak wasn't worth the drive.”

Founders Restaurant

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10

  • Everything.
  • Nothing - price maybe.

“I visited Founders in May 2002 and have never forgotten the experience. It was exquisite, delicious, elegant, fantastic, exuberant, superb and absolutely stunning. I loved every second of it and will definitely come back next time I visit Philadelphia. Service, interior decoration, views, everything - was better than anybody could ever ask for. Need I say more? I highly recommend this restaurant to everybody who is looking for the ultimate dining experience.”

Buddakan
May 16, 2008 by Sheila from North Wales, Pa.

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Everything.
  • A little cool in the restaurant both evening I was there.

“I love Buddakon. The first time I went was with a group of 16 people for a family get together. I was amazed how wonderful the service, the atmosphere, the beauty of the presentation of the food and the elegance of which it was served. I just revisited Buddakan with a party of 6 people. I called ahead and expressed the desire to be served at a specific time because we had tickets to a performance that began at 8pm.”

Byrnes Tavern
Apr 10, 2008 by Russ from New Jersey

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Great waitress and bartenders.
  • Smallest men room I've ever seen but it does the job.

“I absolutely love this place and my wife and I frequent Byrnes whenever possible. At times we travel from South Jersey just to eat, have a few and meet up with friends. Although know for their crabs and wings, try the "redfish" sandwich. It's unbelievable (and spicy).”

1818 Market Marathon Grill
Mar 24, 2008 by Sharon from Philadelphia

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5
Food:[7] • Service:[2] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Food is prepared fast.
  • Service is poor.

“The food is decent and comes fast. Like upscale diner food. The service as a whole was lousy. Our waitress and other staff members acted disinterested and annoyed, and were overall inattentive. It was so strange because it wasn't a packed restaurant and we were nothing but polite. .”

Jet Rock Bar & Grill
Mar 9, 2008 by Jay from Portland,ME

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[8] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Cold beers, warm women, and "classic" ambiance.
  • The "classic" ambiance.

“Unfortunately I was unable to stop by the D terminal establishment as mentioned in the other reviews, but based on what I have read so far none of them have had quite the pleasure. I had the other day in b terminal. Although the facility is remarkable dated in its memorabilia and decor. The service was warm and the beers ice cold. I travel often and although the soothing tunes of nirvana is not my cup of tea I find the terminal b jet rock and its smiling staff always a welcome escape from the subpart flying experience with us airways from the smiling young lady at the pizza area to the pleasant servers and bar staff. This restaurant has service covered. The prices are equal to most in the area. Obviously the other reviewers must stick to dining at upper echelon establishments like Hardies and McDonald. Dining prices were not extravagant and at least you get your bang for your buck in the booze department. Unlike other bars, this jet rock has no "rail" liquors. Order a rum and coke and you are started off at Bacardi. My wife's paradise punch was a welcome treat as it combined several fresh fruit flavors. Overall a great experience. We will stop in again.”

Jet Rock Bar & Grill
Mar 5, 2008 by Stacey from Chicago

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[7] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Beer! Service and fun atmosphere.
  • In the airport.

“I came into this bar really for one reason, beer! I walked by going to my gate in terminal D and first thing I saw was the "New Brews" they had going. I was recommended to try the Victory Hop Wallop which is their seasonal selection and boy was that stuff nuts! The bartender later told me of the high alcohol content which is totally fine with me! Anyway enough about the beer. So I had a bacon burger and it was actually pretty good since I wasn't expecting that much also came out pretty quick for how busy the place was. The atmosphere I though was great as well. Good music with a majority of classic stuff but had a few recent hits not even on the radio stations yet. The staff was definitely some cute girls, all brunettes which I thought was strange, but they actually looked to be having a good time considering the circumstances. I saw two guys come and go from behind the bar that looked to be the managers, helping out when needed and joking around with the staff. The place was pretty clean and they did a good job keeping it that way, but with the business they had going there were some napkins and such on the floor, but that's fine with me I hate those immaculate restaurants (just my opinion). So Id say the only negatives were the prices, but if you think about it the prices aren't that bad for being in an airport. I heard other customers complain, but hey if you don't want to pay for it than don't get it! Anyway I'll definitely be back if I ever fly out of Philly again!”

Mama Palma's Gourmet Pizza Inc
Feb 19, 2008 by Ilana

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[5] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Nothing outweighs the rude service.
  • Horrible, human being for an owner.

“I have never been more offended or upset after what was supposed to be a nice meal out with friends I have not seen in a while. While I am an avid reader of restaurant reviews, I never had the urge to write one. After this experience, though, I needed to do something to discourage everyone from going to Mama Palma's. Although the food was good, I will never return, and will make sure no one I know goes either. After our fairly quick meal, our waiter came over and urged us to leave as we were paying the bill. We politely told him that we were just gathering our cash together, and he gave as a sheepish look and said it was the owner who was making him hurry us along. As we were literally forced to leave our table with bottles of wine still half full, my friend walked up to the owner and politely told him that he understood we cannot linger but we are paying customers who deserve a more respectful goodbye. The owner then literally began cursing out my friend, screaming at all of us that we cannot just sit and drink wine all night (a ridiculous claim since 1) it is a BYO and 2) we had not lingered at all). He continues to tell us to get the ---- out, swearing at all of us as we were stunned. We did absolutely nothing to provoke this monster, and I cannot even believe someone who owns and runs a business thinks this is appropriate. The worst part, however, was at the end, when another friend told the owner to calm down and thanked him for dinner, to which this owner then made an innappropriate comment about my friend's deceased family member. I have never in my life been treated so poorly with no provokation. I do not care who this guy thinks he is, but his treatment was unforgiveable and I hope that other people read this. Judging from the other posts written, this guy does not deserve to be able to speak to other people and should be fired. Because of him, my night went from a good time catching up with friends, to people hurt and utterly offended.”

Ishkabibbles
Feb 4, 2008 by Demetria from Brooklyn

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Great cheese steak and spinach melts!
  • Hardly any seating though.

“Ishkabibbles is definitely a place to visit for a Philly Cheese steak and a Gremlin while in PA! The place looks like a dive but the food is great and they even had a veggie melt for the vegetarians. There is practically no seating so plan on taking it to go just in case you can't catch a stool. This isn't a place for a sit down group meal but worth the visit. The guys behind the counter will take your photo for you and you can check out the wall of autographs in there.”

Jet Rock Bar & Grill
Jan 30, 2008 by Tom from Boston

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • Was close to my gate.
  • Service and health code standards.

“Sat at the bar for about 10 minutes (there were not a lot of people there) before anyone even motioned to help me. Finally the bartender looked at me sitting there, then turned her back, opened her cell phone, and addressed her text messages before addressing the willing to pay for a drink customer. She then served me a drink with an insect floating on the top, turned heel, and went in back to eat dinner. Another bar tender came by, I told her about the bug, and she just shrugged it off as though it happens all the time, then when I spoke to the manager, he was very indifferent about the whole thing. I will NEVER sit at that bar again.”

Night around 4pm, the restaurant was packed, as usual, my meal was overpriced, as usual, and my waitress was smoking hot, as usual. The only thing I can not complain about is their attractive staff of brunettes. Excellent way to disguise your filthy establishment, jet rock.”

Food:[5] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[2]

  • Service.
  • Food, atmosphere.

“I feel that Byrnes is very overrated! There food is simply nothing special. There wings are good. But I know that you get the "bad batch" every so often. To me. Consistency is the key. And Byrnes is not consistent! I talked to a friend who orders their wings every other week for years. He has told me that he has gotten them before where they were so bad, they were in edible. He received new wings, with an apology, and a piece of cake. Then I asked him how many times he has had to take them back. He said 10+ times! Thats way too much for me. The people and device are great though. Caution, if you weigh more then 60 pounds, get take out, because this place is a glorified closet!”

Caribou Cafe
Dec 1, 2007 by Ann Marie from Cherry Hill, NJ

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[8] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • The restaurant is located really close to the theatres and parking lots.
  • I wish the outside cafe could accommodate more people because those seats are always the first ones filled.

“I really enjoyed this place. I'm always looking for something unique to a city and avoid the big chain restaurants whenever I can. The atmosphere at caribou was casual, warm and very inviting. The food was quite good and reasonably priced. The wait staff was very friendly and recommended a nice glass of wine. It seemed to be a nice mix of people having a very good time.”

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[7] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Great brews, music, and pretty staff!
  • Was very busy, but expected with delays in an airport.

“I went to jet rock in terminal d at the Philadelphia airport when I found out my flight was delayed 5 hours. This place was cranking being that it looked like everyone was delayed due to the weather. The beer selection is amazing with 48 beers on tap! I was happy to see your standard favorites plus they had hearten and a seasonal victory on tap that was being advertised as specials. The staff consisted of some very pretty girls both behind the bar and serving the tables. My particular bartender, believe, looked to be the only male staff there but he was one of the better bartenders of the bunch. He had kept my beer filled and the area around me clean, the rest of the girls seemed to be having fun with him since he was the only guy behind the bar. I had a quesadilla and it was fine for how hungry I was. Overall I liked the music, loads of TVs, but especially the pretty staff!”

Dinics Beef & Pork House

  • Would be nice to have something besides chips to go with your sandwich.

“Nothing fancy here as Dynics is found in the reading terminal market in Philly. However the food is great! This is basically a lunch only establishment with a counter and a take out section. They serve roast beef, roast pork, pulled pork and Italian sausage on a roll but they are mostly known for the pork. Get there before noon or the line will probably be long.”

Jazz & Java

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[9] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • The employees are very kind to me every time I visit the airport location.
  • Customers always comparing them to star bucks when they are 2 different stores.

“The employees at the jazz n java in the Philadelphia international airport are very friendly. They have the best Espresso your money can buy. I believe the employees are very patient and they always seem like they are having a good time. I think thats the best work atmosphere, to have fun while you work. I've seen many of the employees keep their cool under pressure, and believe me customers are stressful when they need not be. I actually heard someone say "if you change your blend of coffee I will never come back here." wow huh? I believe that jazz and java is the best coffee shop in Philadelphia. I think they should open more shops outside of Philly. As a matter of fact I am from the east cost and I go to the west coast often, and you know how much people drink coffee on the west coast. A lot! I believe they would do great business. .”

Freddy & Tony's Restaurant
Oct 26, 2007 by Kate from Philly

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Servings size generous, food is delicious!
  • Can get a little loud inside.

“Staff serves wonderful, tasty, home cooked Puerto Rican food, just like it's supposed to be. The portion sizes are very generous, the food is absolutely delicious whether you eat there or choose takeout. We always eat in but orders take out for the way home so we have even more leftovers for the next day. My husband (a Puerto Rican direct from the island) loves the Morongo; it is spicy but not too much. I can't get enough of the pastels, to stones (fried plantains) and Carne Asada. The waitresses are very sweet and speak both Spanish and English (which helps since my Spanish isn't too great). The food reminds me of my mother in law's home cooking and makes me miss Puerto Rico very much. A great place to eat!”

Jet Rock Bar & Grill
Oct 8, 2007 by Greg from Turnersville, NJ

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Beer is usually slightly colder than warm.
  • Wait staff, food, pretty much as hostile as having a beer at your ex wife's place.

“I read the other bad reviews and thought we must have all been there on the same night. I travel quite a bit and regrettably they are the pretty much only choice if you want a drink (beer) and the only reason they stay open. Wait staff is rude and angry. I had the same experience as the reviewer who sat at a table and was ignored until I went the bar and was ignored some more and finally told there was no table service. They tried to add gratuity and I made them take it off of the bill, which the bartender would not do at first until I threatened to get a cop. Food is uniformly horrible. Only reason to go there is to grab a beer at the bar, slug it down and wait until you arrive elsewhere to eat.”

I asked about Jim's and she knew I knew the area and immediately said "Ishkabibbles". Let me tell you. Worth driving back to Philly for the sandwich. Authentic and worth the parking headache.”

Mcmenamins Tavern
Sep 9, 2007 by Susie from Philadelphia

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[9] • Service:[7] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • I just love their soups.
  • The service could be a little faster. If you're in a hurry, tell your waitperson.

“Mcmenamin's is a local tavern in one of Philadelphias most bohemian neighborhoods. The pub-style food is excellent. The soups are famous, and the salads are always fresh and flavorful. Plus, it's cheap - something dear to my heart. If it's warm enough, the outside patio is nice and a lot quieter than the bar. I always see lots of families in here, even those with tiny babies. This funky little place is a real gem, especially considering its proximity to the much pricier chestnut hill neighborhood. Chestnut hill has much tinier restaurants that cost a lot more and deliver a lot less for the money.”

Aramingo Diner Inc
Aug 4, 2007 by Peg from Philadelphia

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[6] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Once the order was corrected twice, the food was fine.
  • The manager proceeded to call my daughter several names because she wanted a bill adjustment due to poor service.

“I have been going to the diner for decades. I have never had a problem with the diner before but on a recent visit, I was very disappointed. My daughter took me, her sister, and my 2 granddaughters out for breakfast as a special treat. Although our visit started out fine, it soon became very evident that we were not welcome. Two of our orders were wrong and we were given a rotted pickle. The manager agreed that the order was not what we wanted and did replace it. However, we were very put out time wise and when we realized that the second order was wrong, we received a little bit of an attitude from the waitress. By then, most of us were done eating and we asked for box for the second corrected order. The waitress attitude increased and because she had volunteered to take over our table when our original waiter left for the day, it was as if we were bothering her. I have lived in the neighborhood for more years than I can count and have always enjoyed my visits to the diner. Once we were ready to go, my daughter who was paying, wanted a bill adjustment due to the inconvenience. This is not uncommon in any restaurant, but the manager decided to accuse my daughter of not wanting to pay. He proceeded to call her names and told her to pay the entire bill or not come back. She chose to leave. He starts yelling about calling the cops, who we waited for but never showed up. My point is that this man continued to insult my daughter and when I called him on it, he dismissed me. The last I checked, the customer is always right, especially a customer of at least 30 years or so. He has succeeded in losing not only my family as customers, but as many others as I can get hold of. By the way, my entire is in excess of 100 people. This is not over and I will continue to pursue this matter with the owner and the better business bureau. By the way, my daughter did pay the bill although the cops never showed up. This tells me that the manager, who continued to rant and rave after the fact, is not only an ignorant, ill mannered individual, but he is also a liar. We waited for quite some time before leaving. This is not a place where I want my family to spend their hard earned money.”

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[4] • Service:[2] • Atmosphere:[2]

  • The band that played upstairs was fantastic!
  • Too bad there were no servers upstairs when the band played! Hostess was clueless & no help. Food took forever to arrive. Servers were alerted to smokers outside open dining room windows & did nothing.

“Traveling from out of town, made a reservation two weeks before trip, to meet family coming from VA. Was very specific to request a table upstairs, where the band was playing. Called at least 5 times to be sure all was confirmed because we had elderly relatives coming who couldn't stand around & wait for a table. We had to wait, & were told there was no place to sit upstairs (there is actually a large dining area & outdoor seating), then another patron was told that upstairs there was a $30 minimum, per person. While trying to get an answer from the hostess, on our table, a patron interrupted & demanded to see the manager, to complain about the service. Things were being run so poorly that I'm surprised we ever got to sit down. Food took almost an hour to arrive, & it was expensive. We had a 7 pm reservation, & never ate until 8:45. The only good thing about the place was the bland, and the hostess came upstairs to tell them to turn it down. Sheesh! Do not go to Downey's.”

  • Cant' wait to visit Philadelphia again to eat at Last Anzas

“I only went to the restaurant because I had the entertainment card and there was a $15.00 discount. This is the 2nd time I used the discount card. Both times I was more than satisfied. There were 4 in our party and the food was delicious, the service was magnificent and we were taken care of like we were the only ones in the restaurant. We were all well satisfied.”

1818 Market Marathon Grill
Jun 30, 2007 by Knowzbetter

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7

  • People work very hard and are extremely dedicated.
  • Other customers often expect too much.

“Upon reading reviews from others that have been posted here, I am compelled to add a comment of my own. I'm a hard-working employee of marathon grill, and I feel the need to point out some things: 1. A number of these negative reviews are from out-of-towners. It isn't the atmosphere of the restaurant you aren't used to, it's the city. You probably are small-town and when you don't get every "please" and "thank you" you cry about it. Our owners are in our restaurants daily, and work hard. No job is too big or small for them to carry out themselves; they keep themselves very much involved in daily operations. Furthermore, they are only three people running a multi-million dollar, 7-location chain.”

  • The desert selection is fantastic.
  • Why does every diner serve a pickle with every meal. I hate pickles.

“The service is usually very friendly and the food is delicious. Definitely a good place to stop by in the late hours after a movie or club hop.”

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[2] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Margaritas.
  • Everything.

“This restaurant didn't even have the cooks or servers to run a small restaurant. It was a disgrace. I didn't not get an appetizer within an hour. No one got an entree within 1 1/2 hours. Horrible owners didn't supple staff with enough food, cooks, or wait staff. Just ask the staff.”

You Zen Japanese Restaurant
May 4, 2007 by Pat from Philadelphia

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Excellent fish and generous portions.
  • Too much take-out business!

“I've lived in the area for many years and also in Japan. Despite its relatively small Japanese population Philadelphia has some excellent authentic sushi restaurants, and you Zen is definitely one of the very best. The fish is selected by one of the owners (I've seen him doing it at 4:00 am) from both Philadelphia's fish market and nick and is always excellent. In my experience this place is an excellent value, with very generous slices of succulent fish on their sushi and a variety of flavorful cooked dishes from the kitchen. Dining room decor is dated but authentic, however I prefer the sushi bar - the twin brother owners are very entertaining, often arguing over who is older! It doesn't see the American patronage of some of Philly's better-known Japanese restaurants, but most Japanese in the area are regulars, and in my opinion that's all I need to know!”

Vetri
Apr 23, 2007 by Jackie from Carlisle

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6
Food:[6] • Service:[4] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • The wine was good.
  • Long wait, bad service, less than memorable food.

“Vestry was the most disappointing dining experience I have ever had. My husband and I had read all of the glowing reviews Ned made reservations well in advance to dine at vestry¿s during a recent trip to Philadelphia. We had to wait for almost 1 hour for our table only to be shocked at the menu. The menu choices were limited and unless one is excited about veal kidneys, tripe or octopus, forget it. Until the waiter gave us additional options with the specials, I could find almost nothing appetizing. I hoped for spectacular service at such a touted eatery, but there was so much lag time between the appetizer and the entree, I thought our order had been lost. So, we spent a fortune for me to eat fettucinethat took forever to reach the table! After a less than memorable entree, I prepared to be wowed by the desserts. Unfortunately, the desserts were no better than any chain restaurant. And to add insult to injury, the chef stopped and chatted with every table around ours, but never even spoke to us. How vestry¿s has captured its reputation leaves me totally puzzled. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone under any circumstance!”
