Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon
Nov 6, 2009 by david from southern pines

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[4] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • Peanuts in a can.
  • Service and food was bad.

“We have eaten here a lot over the years. Occasionally things go wrong, maybe one out of ten times we had a problem. We always left feeling like we were treated well. Tonight we dealt with a new menu which really did not have much of a variety of preparation. 2 kinds of shrimp, no grilled veggies the best thing on the menu was a appetizer sample plate. Service was the worst I have seen here. staff did not seem to care. Had to go looking for a cocktail we ordered. Sent a steak back to be cooked longer. It seemed to have all new staff. The one waiter who seemed to be concerned was replaced with someone else who really did not seem to care. We will be going to outback till the get their act together.”

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Everything was great.
  • Parking would be sometimes tricky, if they are packed.

“The salad bar was the best in town, it had too many items to list. Great place for a romantic dinner or casual business dinner.”

Russell's Fish House
Apr 17, 2009 by Natalie from Southern Pines

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Old time fish camp feel, and great Southern cooking.
  • Chef should make his delicious devilled eggs everyday!

“They also have great broiled platters as well as steaks, burgers and a buffet every night! The desserts were always good and you never leave hungry. The service was always been friendly and makes you feel right at home. They have made a lot of improvements and upgrades to the restaurant since a couple years ago. You won't be disappointed!”

Russell's Fish House
Aug 23, 2008 by Deanna from Pinehurst

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Delicious food - great service - great home made cobblers!
  • Cannot think of anything, except that we need a Russell's up north!

“The renovations look great! And the food is really great! We dine there every time we come back home and always have a great experience. I grew up in the Sand hills and our family dined there every Friday night. I love how you can still order from the menu if you're not a buffet person. I believe at one time they had stopped that, but now the menu is back! My husband & kids usually get the buffet and I usually order from the menu. The seafood is fantastic and my husband says that he has never tasted better BBQ. It's one of the best places to eat in the Sand hills - beats a franchise any day!”

Shuckers Oyster Bar
Jul 8, 2008 by Steve from Southern Pines, NC

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Food was perfect. Wait staff was polite, friendly, professional and attentive.
  • Can't think of a single thing.

“Four of us dined there together on July 7, 2008. Every single entree - from shrimp & grits, coconut shrimp, crab cakes was expertly prepared, wonderfully tasty and well presented. plus. The fish soup was thick and perfectly spiced. The mussels was fresh, the asparagus prepared just right (not easy to do), the hush puppies crisp and served hot. Also, our server made us feel so welcome. All in all, a melt in your mouth meal and pleasurable experience, in a cozy nautical setting. My son, a chef who dined with me and his sister, her young son, said the restaurant got it just right.”

Basil Sweet LLC
Jan 6, 2008 by Thomas from Faetteville

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[7] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Steaks were good although mine was definitely smaller than the picture in the menu.
  • The sweet potatoes were the disappointment as there was no quality control on them and were overcooked to the point of being inedible. The potatoes had passed their prime eating condition 90 minutes prior and no one exercised quality control.

“Food was good but it was a special night for my birthday and treating several personnel who were back and forth to Iraq & Afghanistan. Night of 20 Dec 07. However, another friend picked up the tab and you owe him a coupon of sorts as compensation.”

Raffaeles Italian Restaurant
Jan 5, 2008 by Lynda from Raeford

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[2] • Service:[5] • Atmosphere:[4]

  • Average service.
  • Food and price.

“We were very disappointed in our meal at Rafaels. The price is not worth it. When entering the restaurant we saw a shabby couch that should be tossed out. We should have taken it as a warning. The dining table and other furniture were old and out dated. They need to do an over all deep cleaning of the place. The food was nothing to brag about. The dinner rolls were very commercial tasting, dry and heavy, certainly not homemade. The salad was very boring and not impressive. It only had one type of lettuce, iceberg. Since it is an Italian restaurant one would think the salad would have more variety. Three of us ordered the eggplant ptarmigan and again it was un impressive. All three orders were at best warm and had an odd taste. The others in our party loaded a seafood dish and a chicken dish. They said the meals were ok, but did think they would want to eat it again. Our water had a strong taste of dish soap as if the glass was not rinsed well enough. We decided not to comp line but just to never go back. There is a far better restaurant just up the road. .”

Raffaeles Italian Restaurant
May 6, 2006 by Susie (and Matt) from Michigan

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Everything!!!
  • Unfortunately, closed on Sunday!!!

“This place in incredible! Raffaele and Darryl are amazingly hospitable. You feel like you just came home to friends. That you've just met. I live in Michigan but had to schedule my birthday dinner to include Raffaele's pizza and pasta. Delicious! And Darryl pours drinks that you will tell your friends about (if you remember!). The best spot to sit is at the bar counter, where all the regulars sit. You become a regular the first time you sit there! ”

Basil Sweet LLC
Apr 18, 2006 by Judy from Cary, NC

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Everything!

“My sister and I were just poking around Southern Pines on a cool, rainy April day. We were checking out antique and gift shops. We ran into Sweet Basil to get out of a particularly hard rain shower. What a find! We had delicious, warming fresh soup and bread and wonderful hot tea. The staff was very friendly and efficient. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the casual, shabby chic ambiance of this tiny cafe.”
