Rocky River Springs Fish House

“I hadn't been to Rocky River Springs Fish House for years. I was visiting in NC the other week and decided to drop by and check it out. Things have naturally changed since the early 1970's when a trip to Rocky River Springs was generally a given at least once a month on Saturday nights for folks in southern Stanly County. In those days the fish was served family style on platters with a huge glass canister of Carolina red slaw and separate platters of hush puppies and French fries. Now the platters are all single serve but you still have a choice of flounder or perch (or both if you choose a combo) and all you can eat red slaw. The service was excellent, from the jovial seating by a gentleman at the door to the efficient attention by the waitress who didn't hesitate to bring me another bowl of red slaw after I had ravenously gone through the first bowl. The fish was excellent and not all that different from the way I remembered it. I miss the huge table of family and friends and the platters of fish that were passed around but the absence of the former is my fault and the absence of the latter no doubt a result of the high price of seafood.”
