• Nice old pictures on the wall.
• Everything else.

“The pizza was just okay. The ravioli were not good. Either they have changed chefs or some of these bloggers have to get out more often. I would not go back.”

“Had my first experience this past Friday, excellent! Raviolis were like little clouds of heaven. Pizza was delicious also. Ate in the bar area so can't really comment on the dining hall. Definitely taking my family soon!”

• Waitresses are rude, parking is horrendous!

“I have been going to Spiritos since I'm 2 years old, went with my parents, family, boyfriends, and now my husband and family. We drive a bit to go and don't go as often as I'd like, but the food still can't be beat! The atmosphere - has anything changed since they first opened? We love the food, that's what matters. The restaurant used to have a line to get in around the corner but it seems that those days are gone. Their prices have gone up but the food warrants it. My brother lives in Alaska and every time he comes to town, we're going to his favorite eatery! Don't change the recipe. Just the parking as it is impossible to part near the restaurant. My husband is kind enough to drop us off and look for a parking spot.”

• Best pizza, spaghetti, meatballs and raviolis you have ever had.
• No butter, waitresses are borderline rude - but who cares?

“The tomato sauce just can't be beat. Best pizza, spaghetti, meatballs and raviolis you have ever had. I've been going here for 37 years and of course, the quality will vary from visit to visit, but it's still the best Italian American food out there. You don't go there for the atmosphere - it's loud and a little dumpy and the waitresses are borderline rude - but in my opinion that just adds to the experience.”

• Friendly staff.
• It's a bit tricky finding the restaurant for the first time.

“Their BBQ chicken is excellent! The saffron rice is wonderful. The wait staff is always courteous. Their Portuguese wines are also excellent, even by the glass. Their attached liquor store has a wonderful selection of import wines. I go there every time I'm in the New York vicinity. It is worth the drive.”

• The neighborhood can be a bit rough.

“I love their food! I have been going to Mario's for years and catering from them, for all of my parties! They offer, not just great food but great service, quick deliveries and are sweet as can be! I work in the area and know that it can be a rough neighborhood, but they are an icon there, and for a good reason their food is delicious! You can always go to one of their other locations if you'd like.”

• Exceptional ravioli and eggplant parmigiano.
• Nothing.

“Just returned from Elizabeth (hadn't been back in 45 years), where I attended my 50th high school reunion weekend. Friday night was dinner at Spiritos and as good as fondly remembered. The food, waitresses and ambience will be missed. Sadly, there is nothing like it here in Texas.”

• I don't like nothing about this diner.
• Dirty roach infested diner the worst in Elizabeth NJ.

“This diner is roach infested I would never eat there cause after I seen a roach run across the counter and one in my friends food made me sick to my stomach I give this diner a 0, and the cooks are dirty looking , and I had the cooks hair in my food.”

• Chilean sea bass was great!
• Paella Valenciana kind of soupy, and you only get half a tiny lobster.

“The food is great! Certainly worth the drive if you are not from the area. Order the Chilean sea bass -- deliciously fresh. Generous portions. But Oh my God, the ventilation is horrible, and my eyes teared from the smoke. Yes, you are guaranteed to come out of there smelling of smoke.”

• The sausage was pretty decent, and was the high light of the meal.
• Service was worse than I remembered it to be. That's saying a lot.

“Hadn't been to this place since I was about 19 (which were about 33 years ago). Maybe time alters things about one's memory of a place, but I remembered the food being great, plentiful, and the service only so-so. The ambience was never anything special; dark woods, booths, some loud colors here and there. Would been a great place to shoot an episode of The Sporanos. But I remember always enjoying the food there with friends. Sad to say, some 30 something years later, the service was still so-so, and the quality of the food has either gone down, or it never was as good as I remembered it to be. The Ravioli were bit water logged, and the sauce wasn't any better than a sauce out of the jar. The meatballs were well, just meatballs. Nothing great. I also had tasted some of their sausage. The best part of the meal, but that isn't saying much. I guess like much of Elizabeth, Spirito's too has changed, and not for the better!”

• Great pizza and raviolis.
• No atmosphere, no butter, no coffee, no dessert, no credit cards, and you always feel like you are bothering the waitress.

“The restaurant has no atmosphere, no butter, no coffee, no dessert, and you always feel like you are bothering the waitress. Spiritoâs is not friendly for business travelers because they don't accept any credit cards. They charge extra money for grated cheese for pizza, charge more for extra sauce for anything, and they charge extra for the box to carry the pizza home. I will go again because after a lifetime of going to this restaurant and eating their great pizza and raviolis, I am addicted.”

• Fairly priced, variety of flavorful dishes.
• Parking can be tricky with a small back lot, but side street parking can be found.

“While one sign outside still says Vila Nova, the name is actually Tequila Grill and it's now a terrific Mexican/Spanish cuisine restaurant. The daily specials are great and the sauces on many of the different dishes are paired perfectly with the food. Chips and fresh salsa and a tasty monitor are great starters.”

• Service, no butter or coffee.

• Awesome food.
• Sometimes the waitresses are rude.

“Been going here since I was a baby. My mom and dad had their first date there and I had my first date with my husband there. The ravioli's are the best! The sauce has changed over the years, and it is not as good as it was, but still enjoyable. I travel an hour to get there now and my husband will order it and pick it up for me as a surprise. Nothing in the world beats this place!”

• The filet mignon is always superb.
• Poor ventilation.

“There are 3 parts to this restaurant. Take out, eat in, (super duper casual) and the restaurant. I've only eaten in the restaurant and it is the best. I always get the sangria, and the filet mignon that you cook yourself at the table. It comes with 2 large pieces I always ask for just one and they charge me accordingly. You get a stainless steel platter with a hot slab of lava rock and you cook your meat to your liking. I slice mine up, dip it in the delicious garlic butter they give cook it up, and holy cow is it good. I also recommend the garlic shrimp. With every meal they serve the table gets a delicious salad that if you run out of you can get more. The only draw back is the lack of proper ventilation form the cooking meat, leave your jackets and coats in the car or they will stink.”

• Its six hours away from where I live.

“My family has been eating here forever. my father and I both had our first solid food here as babies. the ravioli is absolutely the best I've ever had in my 27 years on this earth. I now live in Virginia and I travel 6 hours each way just for spirits. this place has looked the same since my dad was a child, and probably before that. my grandmothers dying wish was one last meal from spirits. yes its that good. this is one place I would never want to change. if you find this place you have been blessed. please have the ravioli.”

• Grilled shrimp is the best.
• It is an hour away from us.
