• The food was good.
• The service was terrible and insulting. Not kid friendly.

“This establishment is not kid friendly. The chef made rude comments to my three year old throughout the meal. When we confronted the people up front they said they would speak to him, but it was just his personality to be sarcastic. Even my son said he was not nice to him which broke our hearts. If you want the same experience with friendly staff try the Ichiban in Biltmore. The chef there was fabulous and even taught our son some of the language. Don't pay these people to be insulted.”

“I found folded plastic lids in the bottom of my drink glass which was hidden by the ice. When we called attention to this to the waitress, she merely said she had never seen such a thing before & walked away! From the front door throughout the building, we & many others we noticed were bumped into & shoved aside by wait staff in a hurry to get to & from their stations, with not one apology for being jostled about! Fried seafood was over-fried & inedible.”

• The great quality and freshness of the food never varies.
• This is a small restaurant and is always full at peak hours.

“I have visited this restaurant about 6 times a year for the past 10 years. The great quality of the food never changes and the staff is always friendly and helpful. This restaurant is more than a Pizza Restaurant. I believe the Apollo Flame Bistro to be one of the best in Asheville and I shall continue to go there whenever I am in Asheville.”

• Awesome, creative food. Pleasant atmosphere.
• Too many other people in a small area with the same appetite as you.

“I've been there thrice, and each time whenever the service may have been lacking was solely due to how slammed the place was. That's the reason for any lengthy visits or distracted service. Its so busy all the time because all of their food is so incredibly good, and people know it. Do the smart thing and see if you can reserve a table next time.”

“The Depot is a wonderful restaurant! The food (crab stuffed chicken) was delicious and the environment was warm and very quaint. I cannot wait to go back and bring friends and family.”

• Excellent food and service.
• Seating arrangements and restaurant atmosphere.

“Excellent food! I love the sumo dinner and so does my husband. The service is also great especially when your chef does neat tricks. The last chef we had didn't really do a lot of that but the Asian ones usually do. My only complaint is the atmosphere. For being a more expensive restaurant, the place really isn't nice at all. The decor and restaurant itself is run down to the point of making me wary the first time I ate there. I just expected it to be a much nicer place. The food and the services are fantastic. Sometimes it is a bit strange sitting with strangers at the same table. Last night we had to sit next to an arguing couple and I couldn't wait for them to leave.”

• Cool atmosphere, with bright colors, world music and eclectic food.
• Horrible service. That was topped off with unresponsive manager.

“We were in Asheville for a day a few weeks back and we went to Salsa's, it was recommended by the hotel. Once we saw it, we thought it looked really fun. The server tried to seat us in the walkway facing the restroom so we asked to be seated somewhere else, she said well we had to sit there because its the next server's table. We said we understand but we want to sit somewhere else. She said, well the server won't make any money if she doesn't get any tables and you don't want that do you?" how is that our problem? Then our server was unresponsive and rude during our experience so she made no money anyway! We were sick at our experience that we finally told the manager. She simply asked who the server was and said thanks. So here I am! The food was fine a bit too eclectic even for my California taste buds, it doesn't matter; the service was so bad the food could be the best ever and it couldn't even make the experience neutral.”

• The staff was very nice and service was general pretty good.
• The food is positively awful. The ambience isn't much either.

“Since the other reviewer is from Sarasota, I have to assume that the reviewer hasn't been to enough Asheville restaurants to deem the Apollo flame salad "best in town." Asheville has some great restaurants and many good restaurants -- this isn't one of them. This is one of the worst restaurants I've been to anywhere. The food is awful. It's too often fairly tasteless except for the tons of salt they use in every dish I've had there. I've been to Apollo flame about 4 times and have refused to go back.”

• The food is good and my bill was only around $7 (including drink)
• The tables were small and wobbly. The building is old.

“After visiting numerous Mexican restaurants, I was surprised on my first visit to this small restaurant that the food was so cheap and so good. Like other Mexican restaurants that serve courtesy chips and salsa prior to your meal, this restaurant also serves a cheese dip that's so good. I had the same thing at another Mexican restaurant a few weeks before but it wasn't as good. Although the restaurant is small and old, it's colorful.”

• The food, lack of atmosphere, and the stench of smoke was sickening.

“The bar is smoky and the stench of smoke floods the dining area. The prices were high for the small town food quality and presentation. Chicken on the grilled chicken salad was not completely cooked and the service was ok at best. Overall bad experience.”

• Iced tea was very good and quickly refilled. Reuben sandwich tasty.
• Dreary decor, bathrooms are accessed only through the smoky bar.

“While in the Biltmore Village, I thought I would try the Depot - it looked interesting from the outside and figured we would be in for a good meal. I had trouble finding the door to get inside, as it was not clearly marked. The inside is tiny and the view is of railroad tracks if you sit inside the double doors or of the busy street if you are seated in the old porte-cochere. I ordered the Classic Reuben w/cole slaw but was served the potato salad, which had some odd spice that threw me, making me wish I had insisted on the cole slaw. The Reuben was tasty I will admit. My daughter ordered Chicken Alfredo off of the children's menu. She only ate a few bites, stating she didn't like it at all. I took a bite and found it tasteless. Her salad also had lettuce that had seen better days. When the bill came, we had been charged for the adult size Alfredo. It was corrected with a smile, but I had a hard time getting over the $10.95 price until I realized the error. I was hoping to see nostalgic photos from the depot's heyday, but was sadly disappointed with the whole affair.”

• Food was a delight of textures, tastes and colors. Portions: huge; Prices: extremely reasonable.
• After we were seated, it was twenty minutes before the waitress came to our table. Water had no ice.

“While I am not a food connoisseur, I have to admit that I had the best dinner of my life at Salsa's. My daughter were in the market for a unique dining experience and we got exactly what we wanted that evening. We started off with the Salsa Sampler, which is your choice of three flavors from approximately eight different salsas and is a meal in itself. Choosing only three was very hard but we narrowed it down. I couldn't say which one was our favorite as they were all tongue-tinglingly tasty. If the menu alone doesn't make your mouth water, the smells emmanating from the kitchen will. For the main course I ordered the Free-Range Chicken Quesadilla which was heaven on a tortilla. My daughter ordered a chicken burrito - I managed to steal a bite while she was in the restaurant! and it was just as good as my food. The menu is a bit overwhelming as there are more than 40 different dishes to choose from. Warning: the food is spicy, but not overly so - we didn't have flames shooting from our mouths. The whole restaurant holds about 30 people and tables are tightly spaced. If you have to wait for a table, don't go anywhere else. As good as the food is, I'd gladly wait an hour or longer. Prices are extremely reasonable and portions are huge. I can't wait to go back!!!”

“We were a party of 7. All adults, one 8 year old girl. Maybe its because it was Sunday and the Chef was off. I don't know. What I do know is that it was one of the worst meals we have had. Granted I am a little spoiled after having lived in NYC for 14 year”
