• Food good.
• Waitress bad.

“Food was creative and good. Waitress seemed to want us to leave, though: tried to hand us the bill while asking if we wanted anything else (still eating) and had to ask her to bring dessert tray (could see someone else being shown it) and to please offer coffee. Offered coffee without mentioning that they have espresso, etc. Having been a waitress in fine dining, I can tell you that this is not good for the restaurant nor for the waitress's tips.”

• Very good food, nice menu, excellent bar, good location.
• Too popular, meaning you have to wait for seating and forget quiet dining.

“The silver star is a very good steak house with an excellent bar and good wine list. I have dined there several times and always had very good food and service. The prices are on the high side for Helena, but fair for the quality provided. It is popular and usually crowded, therefore, not the place for a quiet dinner unless you come early or late. The decor is tasteful upscale. It is adjacent to the great northern hotel, making it convenient for the traveler. .”

• Location.
• Smoke. You have to wash your cloths when you leave.

“This could be a great restaurant but it¿s so smoky from the bar which is attached to the dining area. The bar is a local watering hole and the chain smokers flock, including the staff. It is very sad to let such a business go up in smoke. But there is light at the end of the tunnel. When the state enacts the no smoking law, then the public can enjoy.”

• Always plenty of seats.
• Fish heads.

“Typical of a 1-star dining experience - nothing special. if you like instant mashed potatoes, you are in luck. choice of wine is 'red' or 'white' great view of the parking lot.”

• Fresh road kill.
• Local pretense.

“Local yahoos get pretty loud and drunk while waiting for dinner. Better off staying home with a can of beer and a hot-pocket.”

• Excellent service; they buy locally.
• Seafood was quite rare in center.

“Business travelers would love the food and atmosphere; however, the location could prove a challenge for someone from out of town. The food is quite unique, so can't compare it to anything else in Helena.”

• They volunteer to support the community.
• The food is not very good.

“The food is similar to what you would see served at an assisted living facility. As soon as you walk into the building you will be greeted by the bar and a very poorly lit room. Tables and utensils are typically dirty and service is slow. The restaurant caters to the older local community and because they are located several miles outside of town and away from hotels or local hot spots it is frequently empty. The one truly nice thing about the restaurant is that it serves the community every Thanksgiving. The Salvation Army and volunteers throughout the community help serve and support the effort to feed those in need by volunteering to bring food, serve, play music, and clean up. It is a wonderful time.”
