Shang Hai Restaurant
Sep 5, 2009 by L from Reno, NV

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[2]

  • Nothing.
  • Terrible food, horrible rude service and poor management.

“A very costly mistake for Chinese restaurant Shanghai Restaurant, located in Sparks, Nevada. Shanghai Restaurant and Sushi House should shut down their doors. This will be worth reading. 90 of our guests will not be eating here ever again! I recently had my Chinese wedding banquet at Shanghai Restaurant, located in Sparks, Nevada, across from Reed High School. The banquet was for 90 guests and the owner of Shanghai Restaurant assured me that they can accommodate that many guests. Boy, this kid did not know what he was talking about! The restaurant was not able to accommodate 9 tables that seated 10 guests at each table. So, he stuck 3 tables filled with 30 guests behind a divider that made my guests feel like they werent important enough to be with the rest of the group. Next, the tables that were supposed to be set up for the guest book, wedding cake and wine beverage were never in the right place, let alone enough spaces to hold everything. As the guests started to arrive, we asked the manager and his wait staff to begin bringing out the water or sodas or some beverage for the guests while they waited for dinner to be served. We were told that the restaurant did not have enough glasses for everyone, so the guests who really wanted a drink should ask for one. I was so disgusted when they started to bring out blue plastic cups to serve my guests with water and coke. They promised that the guests could have an assortment of sodas and tea. No tea was served as with the traditional Chinese wedding banquet. And who serves plastic cups? They did not even bring out any drinking glasses or tea cups! We even rented our own wine glasses to serve our own wine! The final straw was when a few dozen of our guests reported that they saw Shanghai Restaurant wait staff sneaking off plates filled with our wedding cake into the kitchen for them to enjoy. Guests witness them eating the cake behind the divider that separated the kitchen and dining area. I was thoroughly disgusted when I heard that the wait staff stole our cake and ate them without even asking! It was the most disrespectful thing that I have ever heard of in my entire life! I dont recall the wait staff as being part of the wedding guests? The service was so poor and the staff was rude and disrespectful to all of us! Disgusting! They screwed us over for the amount of money they charged and hence they screwed themselves over as well. The sushi there is terrible and is really fishy smelling. The dark room disguises the stale food. The seaweed salad is often served frozen. Terrible! Dont say I didnt warn you.”

Las Trojes Mexican Food
Apr 18, 2009 by Rick from Spanish Springs

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[4] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[4]

“Margaritas were bland and seemed to be watered down. The food is definitely not authentic Mexican; very gringo [mild]. We found it to be nothing to offend or recommend.”

Shang Hai Restaurant
Nov 25, 2008 by Steven from Sparks

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[9] • Service:[6] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • The food and ambiance.
  • The price and service.

“This is my favorite Chinese food restaurant in the Sparks area. The service is hit or miss, but the food makes up for all of this. It is Szechwan style food and has a great variety. I loved their Crispy Beef/Chicken, Sweet-n-Sour Pork, Chow Mein, Beef and Broccoli, and Mongolian Beef. The atmosphere is beautiful and clean too. I really enjoyed this restaurant.”

Bjs Bbq
Mar 21, 2008 by Terry from Sparks

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Yummy.
  • I eat too much there.

“I am org. from Memphis, TN. The BBQ capital of the world. BJ's is easily one of the best BBQ's I have ever had. Their "kick ass" fries are exactly that! As soon as you get out of the car in the parking, lot the smell makes your mouth water. Their unique BBQ sauces are awesome. The portions to price ratio is excellent. If you are traveling to the Reno/Sparks area, you shouldn't pass this opportunity to treat your taste buds to great BBQ.”

Shang Hai Restaurant
Jul 4, 2007 by Jose from Sparks

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[6] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Recently remodeled.
  • Poor food quality and Very poor service.

“The food overall is decent enough. It's not the worst in the area, but it is very far from being a top contender. They recently remodeled and the place does not look bad. The major problem is service - from rude waiters to cashiers. They are most interested in getting your money than providing you with a memorable dining experience. They also will serve you old food (meaning not freshly cooked) and use unethical practices to stretch their advantage such as watering down their soups. If you're absolutely starving and you have no time to go somewhere else - it will do in a pinch. Otherwise, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.”

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[9] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • Food, beer.
  • Atmosphere.

“We have been here for dinner several times since we moved to the Reno area a few months ago. We haven't had a bad meal yet. The portions are large and the wait staff are friendly. Try the vegetable quesadilla, it's a winner. ”

Joe Bob's Chicken Joint
Apr 11, 2006 by Bill from Sparks, NV

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6
Food:[7] • Service:[6] • Atmosphere:[4]

  • Good food and decent prices.
  • It smelled like cigarettes and I always get the feeling that any place that is so poorly lit is hiding something.

“The food is good but I would only get take-out unless I wanted to have some beer with my meal.”

John Ascuaga's Nugget
Feb 20, 2006 by S

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[7] • Service:[2] • Atmosphere:[4]

  • The restaurants were reasonable.
  • Be warned. Do not give your vehicle to their valet parking.

“Me and my wife went to the Nugget for a two day vacation from CA. We spent the first day in the Nugget, since we reached in the afternoon and were tired. The next morning, we asked our car to be brought back from valet parking (a Porsche Cayenne Turbo SUV), and the valet put a nail through the tire. The nail was clearly visible and the tire was still leaking air and not yet flat. We took several pictures of the vehicle and did not move it. After this, they basically rushed us off the property, they did not want the liability of what was their fault. It cost us the whole day (we had planned to go to Tahoe), since there was no place in the whole town that had that tire. We finally found a store in the evening that could fix it. The hotel refused to pay even the basic bill of fixing the tire. I would not recommend this place to anyone. If you do choose to stay here, do not give your vehicle to their parking services for any reason. Apparently, they can do anything to it, including lose it and not be liable. I have been at the receiving end of it and hope you don't end up in the same boat. Be warned.”
