User Reviews for Omaha Restaurants« Go back to Alberta AttractionsResearch User Reviews for Omaha (1-20 of 73)King Fong Restaurant
“I have eaten at King Fong's many times and always had the same waitress. She actually remembered what we had ordered the last time we were there. They have tables and also booths for privacy. The Chinese food is the very best in Omaha, that I have had and next time I am in Omaha, King Fong's is a definite stop.”

“One of the worst dining experiences of my life. Any of the rich history this establishment had was long gone. The food was sub par Mexican at best. No big deal. However, the service was what really sent this dinner into a nose dive. I will spare you the details of this utterly dehumanizing experience. Let's just say that no accommodation was too small to be ignored. Needless to say, I will not be going back. There are too many good Mexican restaurants in Omaha to waste your time and money at Howard's.”

“Waitress was a bit of a dip. We ordered specials, but she returned after a half hour and apologized that the menu was from last week and those specials had expired, so we quickly re-ordered. The appetizer came right away and was delicious, and water was offered frequently.”

“This pizza place if you can call it that, in a few short words is just awful. Everything tastes as though it came straight out of the box. The dough is very poor, the rest is just mediocre.”

“We had reservations and Gorat's made us wait over 2 hours, and the Gorat's staff never apologized! (This was for the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders dinner, we had reservation for 6PM and we were seated after 8PM). The food is comparable to the mediocre cafeteria food I ate in high school, but their prices are comparable to what you would pay in a nice restaurant. We ate lunch at Dave's Famous barbecue in downtown Omaha that day which was excellent (both in quality of food and service), we should have gone back there for dinner instead of Gorat's!”

“The staff at our hotel recommended this restaurant. We finally found it and almost left when we saw the steep stairs and empty businesses surrounding it. We are glad we didn't. The food was reasonable and we had enough to split with our kids-there is no children's menu. The staff isn't particularly warm and friendly, but the restaurant is so charming it almost doesn't matter. Original 1920's decor-silks, chandeliers, golden teak trellises and inlaid mother-of-pearl tables-make you feel like you have stepped back in time. My photographer friend couldn't resist quietly snapping a few pictures. The private booths in the back would be perfect for a romantic dinner for two.”

“Food was absolutely outstanding! I ordered the carp dinner. The fish was cooked perfectly - crispy on the outside and moist and meaty on the inside! Very generous servings of fish, rye bread and dill pickles! Tasted just like I remember the carp served in the area I grew up in around Bruno and Abie. Brought back many fond memories! I will definitely be back for more!”

“I just moved here from Wichita and the Drover is without a doubt one of the best steaks that I have had in many years. Fresh salad bar with homemade dressings and all types of toppings. Baked potato like they used to be made, excellent. Very friendly staff and the manager wanted to know if everything was to our satisfaction.”

“King Fong's food is good but I go for the atmosphere. It's like a museum of 1920's Hong Kong furniture and decorative arts.”

“The food is great, atmosphere is very cool (retro Chinese). Lunch was very reasonable, plus the portions are so large you get plenty to bring home.”

“This local will not be flocking back to this place. Service was terrible. Bar is directly across from your dining area - so if you hope to have a quiet dinner you better ask to be seated in the back. If you are dining in the winter time - make sure you take along a sweater or you will freeze. Waitress was unfamiliar with the items on the menu. If you go don't waste your money getting the shrimp which was overcooked and chewy (4 large shrimp for $20.95) - you decided if this is a good value. In my opinion - don't waste your time or money on this joint; where there are many more restaurants more deserving of your money.”

“Had to travel to Omaha each year for a user conference held by our software vendor. Stayed at the Embassy Suites in Old Market and found BillyFrog's. Always had a steak there and food was delicious. Service was quite attentive but back then and (possibly now), you actually ordered your dinner at the window back by the grill and paid for it. Table service was for drins. Regardless, this place was always enjoyable whether for lunch, dinner or just fun and drinks”

“This might have been the best food I've ever had. We tried the restaurant to try something new and were blown away by the excellent food and service It was so good that after every three bites or so we couldn't help but comment on how good the food is. We are definitely going back and telling all our friends to check it out.”

“The owner was very gracious and treated our family like we were part of his family. The atmosphere was old world romantic for dining, the food was fabulous (the owner personally cooked our steaks after hearing my dad talk about the beef he raises), and the lounge was a lot of fun after dinner. It was one of the most fun nights we had in Omaha. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you want romance, fun, friendly service, and have the owner treat you like you are part of his family.”

“The experience we had was completely different. Since the new owners took over the layers of caked-on tobacco smoke are gone as well as the roaches and dirty sticky dark red plastic tablecloths and cheesy red light bulbs in the dining rooms. The food has changed from marginally edible to authentically Italian and delicious. Now we are actually able to eat there without worrying about food poisoning.”

“The Drover was recommended to us by a friend here in KC and we were not disappointed. We actually sat in the bar area and the bartender was super friendly and took very good care of us. She actually stayed open a little later than usual so we could finish watching the game (College World Series). The whiskey steak was excellent and cooked to our specifications. The Miller Light bottles were the coldest I'd ever had. The salad bar was small but well stocked and the plates were chilled. The whole place is a little dark and rustic but for me, is part of why I liked it. Prices were a little high but the quality of the steak more than made up for it. If you are ever in Omaha I definitely suggest that you make time to visit The Drover.”

“Amazing flavors, generous portions, very comfortable & relaxing atmosphere! This restaurant re-defines southwestern foods with creative dishes you would normally find in a high end New York restaurant. Features homemade adobe sauce & other sauces, a multi-generation old Sharon's Enchilada dish (by far the most popular) and a menu full of tastes that make it hard to decide. If you enjoy Southwestern food with a gourmet twist, you must try this place! Their Long Island Iced Teas are the best in Omaha with top shelf liquor. Other features: - Huge wine selection-top shelf liquor-copper covered circular bar at the restaurant's center-awesome decor-great service.”

“I and my family dines Saturday evening at the old market stokes. My daughter and I had the corn chowder and both she and I became ill with a severe gi upset. None of the other family members had the chowder and became ill. I believe it was contaminated. I do believe if I ever return I will not have the chowder.”

“Trovatos has changed for the worse. Since John sold the restaurant, the lights have become harsh, ruining the atmosphere the place used to have. The antipasto plate consists of 3 out of season tomato slices, 3 olives, a strip of ham, an artichoke hull with a dab of bleu cheese, a strip of Velveeta cheese, tasteless sausage--all smothered in canned parmesan cheese. Luke warm oily minestrone followed by cold noodles with red sauce that could only have come from a jar. The "Italian" salad dressing was vinegar.”

“What this place lacks in atmosphere it makes up for in food! The bean dip is to die for and the enchiladas are fabulous. If you love cheese try the cheese enchiladas. The margaritas are strong so watch out! Only complaint is that they still allow smoking.”

“As for whether or not they are rude, stupid, or just don't speak English. I think they all speak English just fine when they feel like it. But there is a saying about Greeks. "After shaking hands with a Greek, count your fingers!" So true take my word for it!”

“We are regulars at the one on 72nd St. The food is great! The Gyro Salad is my favorite. My husband loves the Double Kong and my son loves the King Kong with Bacon. They really load on the thick sliced bacon. These burgers are BIG! The single King Kong is 1/2 pound. My little grandson loves the hotdogs. They are big, also. Oh, and the fries are fabulous! I'd say the best in town.”

“I have never had my day ruined by such rudeness! My husband thanked the lady taking our order twice and all she did was shove the tray towards him. Was she completely rude, or could she not speak English. Our food was cold and her attitude ruined my meal.”

“Pricey? Yes. Worth it. Also yes. We come here to celebrate special occasions, because they do a grand job of making you feel special. Last time we stayed in Omaha over night and went back for their Sunday brunch, which was also excellent. Personally, I like their signature green peppercorn fillet, but we have never had anything that was not excellent. ”

“When my friends and I lived in Omaha before being transferred for our jobs/careers, we would go to Billy frogs in the old market at least once a month, usually twice, and just sit, talk, catch up and laugh while drinking down a couple pitchers of pond scum. We loved the atmosphere and watching the different people walk by doing their own thing while we were doing ours. It's a great place to just have drinks and appetizers before heading to the Orpheum for a show or something, and if you're there for dinner, awesome as well. Unfortunately we don't live there anymore but we do visit yearly and always go back there. The staff was always nice, courteous and knowledgeable about the establishment. Highly recommended! And Iżm not the only open who thinks so on behalf of me and my two friends, and just the fact that we used to live there and know the area really well. Go!”

“Sam & Louieżs have great lunch specials, including pizza by the slice and reasonably priced salads. They have unique toppings and combinations, but will also obviously make your pizza with your own specified toppings. Their buffalo chicken pizza and their Manhattan are popular among my friends/family. Their grilled chicken salad is great, and so is their garlic cheese bread. This one on cases is the one I am reviewing--it seems to have the best salads and the best consistency of all we have tried. One drawback: they close incredibly early, but such is Omaha.”

“I have eaten here twice: the first time the escargot tasted like dirt and my chicken was undercooked; the second time my meal was just not flavorful, and my dining companion's meal was a menagerie of odd starchy sides coupled with pasta. This is the bottom line: their steaks may be good, and their salad bar is above average, but their sides are horrible and so are their non-steak meals. Their prices are moderately reasonable for a steakhouse, but the staff has an air of knobbiness as if they are trying to be a bit higher class than they can actually muster. I can find better steaks elsewhere, where the servers know that what make a restaurant worth the price are not a cheesy theme; but instead genuine, friendly service and consistently good meals.”

“King Kong food is really good. However, the people can't speak English well enough to make transactions and often over charge or give you the wrong food. They only accept cash! What kind of business, other than shady, accepts only cash?! Of course you can use the on site tam and pay even more service charges than your bank.”

“We ate there on vacation, will never go back! My husband ordered the porterhouse, my daughter the rib eye, I tried the house breaded shrimp. First off, the steaks were ordered medium rare, they came raw and cold in the middle. Really raw! They were sent back and when cooked properly the porterhouse was ok but the rib eye was very gristly and tough. Not a good cut of meat. The waiter was rude and told us a medium rare steak should be that way. not! I used to cook and know how a steak should be done. We got no drinks, no appetizers and no desserts so I felt robbed! ”
