User Reviews for Stillwater Restaurants« Go back to Waterbury AttractionsResearch User Reviews for Stillwater (1-11 of 11)Saint Croix Crab House Music Cafe Inc
“I attended a rock show at the St. Croix Crab Shack and the service was comparable to a Walmart greeter. A line of four people ordering a simple beer should not require a 10 minute wait. There were two bartenders - a short blond man who seemed to jeer at men who wanted beer, and a young woman who, well, let's just say she'd make a better door-stop - or if she was buoyant, she'd look great on my yacht in place of my life saver.”

“The food is not worth the money. I have eaten there a couple of times and both times the food was average at best. Also the drinks there are expensive, cheaper to go to Brines across the street.”

“The Supreme Bean is relatively inexpensive. It has a nice homey feel, good build your own sandwiches, couches and seating in the back, and free WiFi. good for a quick lunch, morning coffee, (or just study area for college kids like myself).”

“First of all, it's not Petey Paddy's - it's P.D. Pappy's. Stands for Poopdeck Pappy, Popeye's Daddy. It's very nautical in there. The restrooms are marked inboards for women and outboards for men. It's only open during the late spring until the end of summer. The place is half on land, half over the St. Croix River. There is a large dock alongside. About half the crowd are boat owners from the river, half are bikers, half are college age, and the other half are locals of all ages. If that sounds like too many halves it's because the place is packed to the rafters on Friday and Saturday nights. Very packed, overflowing into the outdoor area. This is a big bar with limited food, which is very. Good. Drinks reasonable, service is excellent. The bands they have are the top of the list of the greatest Twin Cities bands. Great, great music and dancing. You come! Bring your girlfriend. We'll gave fun!”

“My husband and I really enjoyed both of the dinners we've had at the Lowell Inn Restaurant. The first time we went I had a delicious Beef Wellington in the front room. The service was slow for us that night (they offered apologies and gave us a dessert) but the atmosphere is nice and quiet. The second time we opted to eat fondue for two in their special room full of one-of-a-kind wood carvings and German items. It is a very unique setting. We had a wonderful cheese fondue, salad with an amazing gorgonzola dressing, and then duck/shrimp/fillet mignon fondue. We didn't have room left for the chocolate fondue dessert, so had the lighter fruit dessert that is unlike anything I've had before! We would definitely recommend the charming Lowell Inn!”

“Very nice atmosphere. Simple but elegant. Good food, but not fantastic. Prices were ok, but not great. I had the tenderloin, which was tender but not as good as many others I've had. It was supposed to be 'surf and turf' but it only came with two shrimp for $32. The sauces were tasty and everything seemed to be homemade except the salad dressings. I would probably go back in the summer. They were right on the river and the view would have been spectacular.”

“If you have 6 or more in your party, Marx will allow you to make reservations. It is an extremely busy place so I would not recommend this restaurant if you'd like a relaxing dining experience. In fact, we went for my birthday and we were shocked to be asked to leave immediately after paying our bill because according to the hostess "we were there long enough and others were waiting." Our group of 40-somethings was shocked to be treated like loitering teenagers especially after spending over $375 for our meal and drinks. We wouldn't have cared that the service was so slow (it took 15 minutes before our server even acknowledged our table and it was a 20 minute wait for our bill after we were done eating) if we didn't have to suffer the indignity of being told (not asked) to leave. This was not the way I thought I'd be treated on my birthday dinner and we weren't even offered dessert. If it weren't for the fact that they are very obvious about their goal of turning tables fast, the food is good, the atmosphere is lively and Stillwater is a beautiful town.”

“Food and service was exceptional. We will be back to dine out on the patio by the water. Nice folks, very good food.”

“The restaurant has improved since Tom's review in 2006. I too have experienced the same, and said I would never return. In fact, one of our local newspaper reporters went in there on her time off with some friends, and has a horrible experience. She got so mad; she decided to tell her story in her editorial section. It is now under new ownership, and I decided to give it one more shot. The service was excellent, the prices are compatible with other establishments downtown, and it was very clean. They have great entertainment late night with some of the top bands in Minnesota, so after a nice meal you can dance and burn it all off. I will go back.”

“We had lunch at this restaurant. It was dead. There were at least four service people sitting around chatting up a storm. No biggie, except the windows were filthy, the floors were dirty, the restrooms were dirty. The food was terrible. We both had a shrimp pasta thing (two different versions). The shrimp were watery. The pasta had chunks of garlic powder on it. The lettuce for the salad was old. We are very non-picky eaters and rarely have ever encountered anything we couldn't finish, but neither of us could choke down the rest of our lunch. Had to find a fudge store afterwards just to try to remove the memories of that meal.”

“Super fun place to hang out with friends. Nice older crowd. Very diverse patronage, lots to look at bikers to freaks, to the mom next door. Loved it and a great band.”
