“I used to visit this restaurant in the 1960's for a late night snack of Spaghetti Bolognese. We were always greeted rudely by staff.”

“Will not be going back! Being a resident of Jackson for 50+ years, have always considered the Mayflower as my favorite restaurant in Jackson until this past weekend. Both my friend and I ordered red fish with crab meat on top and it was okay. However, we both had to pick out numerous small bones in the red fish and cartilage in the Crab meat. The baked potato was warm but not hot and the rolls which are usually an asset here seemed to have been from the night before and reheated way too.”

“I love Bonsai! The first time I went it was recommended by my sister and I've been going every since. My favorites are the vegetables, the combination steak and shrimp, and the salad dressing is different but good.”

“I have been eating here for many years and have seen many changes, most for the good. However, lately there appears to be a lack of pride or monies to keep the outside patio area in repair. It is quickly becoming tacky with its broken lights, broken fans, broken umbrellas at the tables and the duct tape strips hanging from the copper patio cover. The patio area is the first thing patrons see and have to either walk through to eat, inside or out. The wait staff was always friendly and willing to serve. I feel they are a bit understaffed. My biggest complaint is: Why do the wait staff take their smoke breaks at the font entrance of the restaurant? They are all seated or huddled around the one and only entrance smoking and talking. One must walk past them, through them and all the smoke to get in to sit and eat. That does not make for a good impression. Or at best can send the wrong impression to new patrons.”

“AMAZING food! Incredibly delicious! The craw fish penne is divine. Always get their famous raspberry tea. I highly suggest this place to anyone!”

“It is not comfortable and service takes forever. The food quality is not up to the standards for the prices.”

“We were spending a night in Jackson on a trip recently, and we wanted a local place for lunch the next day before heading out. I ordered the smothered pork chops with okra and tomatoes and mashed potatoes, and my husband ordered the oxtails with squash and I seem to be forgetting his other vegetable right now. The meal was served with your choice of bread, which of course we both picked cornbread. The dining room is small, yet very comfortable, and the staff was extremely friendly. Do not be put off by the outside appearance of this small, quaint little restaurant, because inside I can assure you it is only the finest quality of good home cooked soul food. This will be a regular for us anytime we are even close to Jackson, MS.”

“The atmosphere is truly Mississippi. The service is excellent. The food doesn't get a 9 because I personally don't care for iceberg lettuce on any salad but overall the Country Fisherman is great!”

“I absolutely love Bonsai. The first time I went I wasn't sure I'd like it. I fell in love! Once you go there you can't get enough. Its so good that I could eat it everyday. It is my favorite place to eat.”

“There was a fingerprint on the salad plate, the salad greens had some brown spots and the potato soup was cold. The beef should be marinated before being cooked to improve the flavor. The server spoke too quickly and was hard to hear over the ambient noise. The rolls were hot and buttery.”

“Such a great place to dine. The food is great, but the chefs are what make the dining experience so good.”

“The food and atmosphere at Crechales is fabulous! This is a small hole-in-the-wall restaurant that has been in the same place for over 50 years ( I wasn't around before then). On the week-ends, you will wait for a table for at least an hour. But that's okay, try an order of the delicious onion rings while waiting on your table. The food is well worth the wait, the stuffed flounder is my favorite and my husband always get a rib eye steak. The fried shrimp are to die for! I can't recall ever getting anything that wasn't so over the top good.”

“The freshest seafood in the ms-lou area. I have traveled and travel all over the south and never found fresh Maine lobsters. The restaurant is extremely nice and reasonable when it comes to prices. Impressed.”

“I have eaten there several times. The food has always been "fresh" and tastes wonderful. The management is always happy to interact 1 on 1 with the customer. I feel that they are attentive to all the customers needs and are willing to go beyond the norm to provide the best food and service. The buffet and eating areas were clean as was the utensils. .”

“I will have to say my co-workers and I have been going to lunch at this restaurant for a while now and the last two or three times we went the food bar was never fully stocked. The food has gone down in quality & taste. Don't even try the sushi, if you are a real sushi lover this is not something you will want to try. I don't know that we will go back. Get a new chef or something.”

“Wait staff was rude, prices were out of line and the food itself left me wishing I'd stopped at the zoo and ordered a turd sandwich instead. The gumbo was so salty that it was bitter. The Caesar salad was made with rancid lettuce (the kind with wilted soggy black edges). My kids wouldn't eat any of the stuff that was brought out. On top of the horrible taste, the food wasn't even warm the gumbo was served as though it was gazpacho. My tab ran about $16.50 per person (2 adults, 3 kids), which isn't bad if you're getting premium food but this restaurant is not premium food they just think they are. After paying our tab, we went to another restaurant on the other side of the freeway. My kids were famished and devoured their meals at the new restaurant. My bottom line advice: avoid this place like the plague.”

“They have captured the ambiance of the better restaurants in Mexican border towns. The menu, decor and quality service promote this. The food is typical, but good quality. A mariachi troupe plays some days. Fits perfectly in its niche.”

“We had a really fun time. Most of the girls there are just everyday people though. Nothing spectacular, but what do you expect? It is a strip club in Jackson, ms.”

“From the smothered pork chops to oxtails this place is awesome. The greens are seasoned but not over seasoned. The field peas are great. Pork chops fried or smothered. Chicken, ham hocks, sweet tea all are great. This food has the owner¿s soul all in it. No pun intended. If you like authentic soul food then bullies is the place in Jackson or for that matter nearly anywhere. I always ask to be taken there when I¿m in Jackson at least once a week. If you¿re looking for a fancy place to eat then stay clear. But if you want great food at great prices then drive, walk or crawl to bullies. You'd think I owned stock in the place but I assure you I¿m just a fan. ”

“Very friendly service and excellent food. The chiefs are very lively and interactive and put on a great show. Also, the salads and soups are to die for. Biggest plus about bonsai: their very own original "pink sauce." very tasty. A must try on any menu item.”

“The time to go is lunch because the prices are lower, but you better get there right around 11:00 AM or there will most likely be a line. Also very fun for kids.”

“We were charged $4.30 for a piece of frozen pie. The lunch menu clearly said that lunch with dessert was $8.50. When we asked about it, we were told there was nothing she could do and she was going to charge us that much for a piece of pie. Very disappointing. ”

“Great old lunch-counter place, but the food and service are slipshod. I was ignored by a succession of waitresses, the order was brought wrong (twice), and the club sandwich was pitiful. Hard to mess up a club sandwich.”

“The food was great, especially the gumbo, the wait staff was friendly, due to the drinking and smoking I would not bring kids, I recommend this for a quick lunch stop.”
