Melvins Steak House
Oct 12, 2009 by Jill from Virginia Beach VA

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[3] • Service:[6] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • Location.
  • Too expensive for average food, and old dirty looking table clothes.

“Disappointed! We were really looking forward to dining there! The menu was limited and the prices were too high for the average tasting food. The salad bar was small and the lettuce and vegetables didn't seem fresh. Wish we had went somewhere else!”

Melvins Steak House
Jul 5, 2009 by Kerry from Edgewater, MD

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[9] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Waitress was very friendly.
  • The customer at the salad bar on her blue tooth.

“I had a good old fashioned restaurant style meal. I dreamed of visiting Melvin's for the last 5 or so years, tonight was a dream come true. It's a shame they have torn down so many of OC's original restaurants. I enjoyed the nostalgic feel of Melvin's. By the way, I didn't see any flies on the window sills or in my green beans. I plan to visit next time I'm in town and this time bring my dear hubby.”

Captain Galley 2
May 17, 2009 by CC from Long Island, NY

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[2] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • Nothing.
  • Everything.

“We spent a few days in Maryland to play golf. We had eaten at the Captains Galley before and thought we would try it again. I will get to the point. We were all very disappointed, with our entire experience. First, for a seafood restaurant, the menu is very limited in its choices of fish. Come on folks you are right on the Atlantic ocean and should have several choices on your menu daily. No sword fish, cod, snapper, tuna etc. We were four in our group two ordered Crab cakes, (one the size of a tennis ball) at $17.00 one ordered Salmon and the other stuffed shrimp, Every dish was bland/had no taste and was not served hot! We went with the salad bar as a side dish, also a big disappointment. The salad was wilted and the fixings were limited. Salad is the cheapest thing you can provide. This was way to much for what we received in the way of a meal, nor did we enjoy it. Also we had to wait almost half an hour for our meal and the restaurant was only half full. The Captains Galley II is off our list, we will not return. Please pass this on to the restaurants owners, if they don't do something about changing the chef, the menu and the service, this ship will sink.”

If you eat funnel cake at loves lemonade, all other funnel cakes not taste good anymore. People are very nice. Lemonade you should try.”

Brass Balls Saloon Inc
Sep 27, 2008 by Grimm from DC

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[2] • Service:[7] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Somewhat responsive.
  • Lousy crab cakes.

“Crab cakes described as jumbo lump with just enough breading to hold it together. I asked the waiter if this was true. He said yes. It wasn't; there was a lot of stringy filler meat. I sent it back. They brought out another one for my inspection. It looked better, but again turned out to be only 1/4 lump, and really too salty to taste any crab. Not worth $20. After paying, I told the manager (after waiting a bit), and he said he'd look into it, but claimed that they usually got good reviews for those.”

Captain Galley 2
Sep 22, 2008 by Sue from Harrisburg, PA

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7
Food:[7] • Service:[5] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Watching the boats.
  • Crab cakes were totally different then the past 20 years.

“We have eaten at Captain's Galley for over 20 years. Last week we were in Ocean City and ate there 4 times. Never again. We could not wait to eat the crab cakes. Well they were not the usual CG Crab cakes. There were big chunks of some kind of meat in them but it did not have the texture or taste of crab cakes. The tartar sauce is terrible. Kraft. The salad bar was a huge disappointment, salad brown and lumpy and the pasta salad tasted horrible. They raised their prices but sure not their quality. We will stay on the other side of the bay the next time we are in OC and find some other restaurants that are better.”

Alaska Stand
Sep 9, 2008 by stephenie from hometown, pa

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • The food.
  • Should open one hour earlier.

“The Alaska Stand is our favorite spot to stop for breakfast after our morning bike ride. The eggs, bacon, toast, coffee, and home fries were very good. The servings were enough to eat and you certainly get your money worth. The wait staff is also very friendly in the morning! I only wish the stand would open an hour earlier. Thank-you Alaska Stand for many great memories in the past, and here's to many more in the future!”

Captain Galley 2
Aug 6, 2008 by Jackie from Springfield, VA

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Crab cakes.
  • The service can be a little lacking in attentiveness.

“Without a doubt some of the very best crab cakes I have ever eaten and I have tried them everywhere. The restaurant is just a restaurant as far as decor goes, although it takes on a different atmosphere after dark with the reflection of the lights from the marina in the water. The service is satisfactory to good but not excellent. The reality is I go for the crab cakes. And although the lobster tail costs an arm and a leg, (really) it was the biggest most succulent lobster tail I have ever had or ever hope to have. That said, I eat the crab cakes 95 % of the time.”

Higgins Crab House
Aug 20, 2007 by HereIBe from Pennsyltucky

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5
Food:[5] • Service:[5] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • The mallets and how they give everything to you in a bucket (roll of paper towels mallet, crab cracker), loads of crackers.
  • Prices are steep, flies, don't change fryers.

“They give you a lot of food, not that great of quality. Very expensive and another turn off where the amount of flies that were literally having parties on your food as you ate. They had great cocktail sauce, though deveining shrimp as I ate was distracting. My daughter is allergic to fish and got a bad allergic reaction when we ordered the chicken strips figuring that fish/and chicken should /would've been cooked in separate fry vats, we were wrong, because after she ate the chicken strips she got very sick for the remainder of our trip. The place is okay if you want mounds of food but don't mind flies.”

Bj's On The Water Inc
Aug 16, 2007 by Jean from Ohio

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[9] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Good view, good food.
  • Prices a bit high, especially for families.

“I really enjoy the fact that we can have an ocean view. There is an outside patio as well. I love the peel and eat shrimp. The potato skins are good. I have enjoyed the clams casino, but the prices are a bit high. We usually get good service and this year we plan on going there again. We had a pretty blah waiter the last time, but usually they have been very good. There was a blues band one time we went, and it was enjoyable. It is usually pretty packed so call ahead to see how the crowds are when you want to go.”

Captain Galley 2
Jul 16, 2007 by Samantha from Hagerstown, MD

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[2] • Service:[4] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • On the docks.
  • The food, service, and cost.

“My family decided to revisit this restaurant after not going there for about 8 years. First our sodas tasted horrible, very flat. Then I ordered a water that tasted like the water came directly from the bay. It had a funny after taste. I complained and asked for a bottle of a water, then was charged for the water. The salad bar on its own cost around 9 dollars and was the worst I have ever seen. There wasn't even an option of a diet dressing. The food was bland, and not seasoned, and the rolls weren't even warmed. For the price I would stay on the other side of the bridge in ocean city and go to an all you can eat seafood and prime rib buffet. It was horrible.”

Crepe & Omlette Place
Jul 3, 2007 by Tim from Lehighton

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Good food, nice change from typical pancake house.
  • Very pricey for breakfast for a family.

“This was my first trip to OCMD and was also my first breakfast there. We were looking for a place that wouldn't take till lunch to seat us and the Crepe & Omelet fit the bill. The service was prompt and friendly, tables were clean; though we had to sit in plastic chairs not all table had them. A look at the menu showed just what one would expect from a place named the Crepe & Omelet. The portions where huge and the prices where equal to the portions. We had three people in our party. 2 adults and one child. We ordered one omelet a side of pan fried potatoes, two crepe breakfasts with fruit and chantilly (whipped cream) and freshly squeezed orange juice... our bill was $57.00 for breakfast! I had a bit of sticker shock from that, the food was more then we could eat and we could have easily had enough food with just the omelet and one crepe breakfast. The food was of good quality and I would recommend it if you want something different then your typical pancake house. All in all, I probably wouldn't go back unless I came into some money, but for taste I would.”

Ocean View American Grille
Aug 23, 2005 by AR from Philadelphia, PA

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[5] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Good environment for a family with small children who need to find food the kids will eat and a place that where kids can make some noise without bothering others.
  • Not the right meeting place for a large group who want to eat and socialize together without hassle.

“The restaurant itself was a pleasant environment, with simple decor and a simple menu; good for a family with small children or anyone interested in a quick in and out. I was there with a group of nine "twenty-somethings", and our entire visit was mishandled. I feel I have to tell the whole story because there were multiple headaches that night. We called ahead for reservations because we traveled from around the country to spend the weekend together, and wanted to sit as a group and catch up on each others' lives. When we arrived, we were seated at two separate tables. An entire section of the restaurant was "closed" and they would not let us sit together in that area. Our tables were side-by-side, but we were not permitted to move them together. Our server did bring the manager out, at our request, but he would not speak to us and we could tell that he was yelling at her that she may not move our tables together. (NOTE: He would not allow her to put us on two separate bills so we could keep better track of who ordered what, and split which appetizers... From that perspective, he said we were "one group"). Twenty minutes after taking our orders, our server returned to tell us that they had run out of three of the items we'd ordered. When it came time to pay the bill, several members wanted to pay with debit cards. The restaurant would not allow us to pay with more than one card - someone either had to pay the entire amount themselves, or every person had to come up with the cash (an impossibility any time a group of nine adults eat out together). End of story, we realized that they forced us to share one bill because they could automatically add the 15 or 20% tip for a large group, even though we had to sit as separate groups. The night was disappointing, the selection was disappointing, and when we finally received our food it was also disappointing (For example, the Crab Dip" was a bowl of mayonnaise with a few pieces of canned crab meat). Our server was a very sweet, hardworking girl, but the overall service was awful. Please keep in mind that many members of our party are/were servers themselves. Our expectations are very realistic, even to the point of being sympathetic towards the staff, but we were extremely disappointed.”
