Red Horse Restaurant
Sep 16, 2009 by Cathy and Lori from crofton, md

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[2] • Service:[5] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • Nice staff and atmosphere.
  • Terrible food. Expensive.

“It was quite pricey for what we got. The lobster tail that we paid top dollar for, was not even edible. I think the bill was 125.00 for the two of us. People had raved about it, so we tried it on the way from Colorfest. Big mistake!”

Mays Restaurant
Apr 20, 2007 by Dave from Staten Island

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Great food service and price.
  • None we have encountered yet except long wait on weekend nights.

“May's is a small local restaurant the serves up crabs, crabs, crabs and crabs! They have 3 levels of all you can eat ranging from just steamed crabs (and sides) to crabs, clams, mussels, king crab legs, oysters (raw & cooked), fried clams, shrimp (fried & steamed in old bay), along with sides (corn, crab/vet soup, Cole slaw and hushpuppies. The food is plentiful, delicious, and served by very happy, friendly waitresses. Worth the trip from anywhere! The restaurant also has a full dinner menu of assorted other seafood dishes but we go there for the all you can eat only. They have a decently stocked bar also. Parking in front and back of the restaurant is easy and plentiful. Come early (4:30 - 5:00pm) or get reservations fir, sat nights as the lines get long, and turnover is a little slow due to the amount of food served to the tables...”

Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • See above.
  • Can't think of a thing.

“Dutch's daughters is a bit pricey, especially for dinner, but worth every penny. I've been there on numerous occasions and never had a bad experience. Service is courteous and efficient without rushing you through your meal. In fact several of us who don't see each other but once a year have spent several hours without even a hint that the servers would like us to speed up! The food is always of the highest quality and without fault.”

Isabellas
Mar 10, 2007 by Chris from Frederick

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[7] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • Good food, attentive waiter.
  • Were told to leave by owner because he needed the table.

“The food was good and the waiter was attentive. We enjoyed our dinner and were talking a bit after dinner. Tables were empty around us and others around us had been there as long as we had. The owner came up to us and offered to buy us a drink. At the bar. In other words, kicking us out. He told us he needed the table for others that had reservations. We purposely came early to enjoy a leisurely dinner and catch up with each other. The owner's behavior was unexpected and in my opinion inappropriate. I will not be going to Isabella¿s any time soon. So overall, good food, but don't hang around too long.”

Venutis
Dec 10, 2006 by Jessica from Mount Airy

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Great food, romantic atmosphere, reasonable prices, good service, extended menu & wine list, free entertainment on Friday & Saturday nights.
  • Not easy to find if you're not familiar with downtown Frederick, they are on Patrick street, just past the Carroll parking garage and a 1/2 block before market sty.

“My favorite and the best Italian restaurant in Frederick. The food is great (homemade and made to order). They serve more than just Italian food - the seafood and steaks are outstanding and are served with a salad, homemade foci bread and 2 sides (vegetable and starch of the day - if you want pasta as your starch you need to tell the server when ordering. The atmosphere is cozy & romantic. The service is great and the prices are very reasonable. They do have a great wine list - 8 pages long and more than a dozen wines that are served by the glass. I would recommend trying their garlic rolls & chocolate rum cake. They were voted best Italian restaurant for the past 3 years by Frederick magazine. There is also free live entertainment in the bar on Friday & Saturday nights. ”

El Paso Mexican Restaurant
Dec 4, 2006 by Jim

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[2] • Service:[6] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • The artwork was humorous. The wait staff friendly. Lots of chips. OK salsa. Passable refried beans.
  • Wait staff with little English command. Bland rice, chicken, runny cheese and beans.

“I generaly regard Mexican food as a nice diversion from bland yuppie type dining (read Chilis, Applebees, etc.), but the food we were served at El Paso was blander than those. Our first choice in restaurants that evening was the steak place next door, but there was a 40 minute wait and standing room only. I should have regarded my suspicions when entering El Paso when only a few tables were occupied at 7 p.m on a Saturday night. Our waitress was generally polite and pleasant, but clearly did not have command of the English language. We ordered beef and cheese enchiladas and were served chicken ones. The rice was fluffy, but devoid of flavor, the cheese runny to the point of leaving watery puddles on the bottom of the plate. The refried beans were passable, though also too runny. On a positive note, the salsa served with chips DID have flavor and a bit of *bite*. Also they did serve a lot of corn chips. ”

La Paz Mexican Restaurant Inc
May 7, 2006 by Mary from Rosemont, MD

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Almost everything! Food, atmosphere, location, price, abundance of local patrons.
  • Well, the only food I've tried that I did not like was the grilled fish in a tortilla - dry and tasteless.

“Of course, we love La Paz. It's our 11 year olds favorite restaurant, and everyone else in the family, meat eaters and vegetarians alike, can find food that they love. My teaching team-mate calls this her favorite restaurant, and so does my son's best friend's dad. La Paz seems to be the favorite of lots of people, and here's why:

The food is more authentically Mexican than most American restaurants, it's simple but blends flavorings and ingredients masterfully, and prices are quite low.

We ALWAYS start off with the big bowl of Chile con Queso and chips. You can order tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc. a la carte, but my favorite meal is the Chicken Flauta Plate, which includes rice, lettuce, chile sauce and sour cream. I ask for only one flauta, because that's plenty for me, and they charge about 1/2 price, which is amazing! I usually add guacamole as a side. (The flauta is a crisply fried tortilla with shredded chicken and salsa inside. Delicious.) I am also partial to the Tortilla Chicken Soup, which is spicy and delightful. I've even mimicked La Paz's recipe for that at home, with great success.

My youngest son, a picky kid, loves to make his own dinner. He orders 4 warm tortillas ($1.00), pinto beans ($1.00) and sour cream ($1.00). He adds Chile con Queso if we have any left over (and if not, we have to order more!) For his friends who prefer American food, there are hamburgers and french fries.

My husband - the vegetarian - loves the bean and cheese items on the menu, and often finds interesting vegetarian specials on the chalkboard. He also appreciate the Dos Equis (spelling?) and other Mexican beers. Speaking of drinks, my son and I enjoy the frozen strawberry (him) and mango (me) dacquiri sort of things. Others I know speak favorably of the Margarita's.

We're usually too full for dessert, and, honestly, I've never been impressed by the ones I've tried. It might be better to walk down Market Street (or turn on Patrick Street) in a little after dinner jaunt for a sweet treat!

Anyway, this place is well worth visiting!!! (Try to get a window overlooking the creek, but settle for anything!) Enjoy

El Paso Mexican Restaurant
May 19, 2005 by Wally W . from Wallawalla,Washinton

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6
Food:[7] • Service:[6] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Fast service, good food, good atmosphere
  • If you don't like Mexican food, that's all there is

“The artwork, murals, fountain, and plants create an awesome atmosphere. The service is extremely fast and the food is authentic and delicious. Try the tacos, and Mexican fried ice-cream. El Paso offers a variety of Mexican soft drinks (delicious!). The food and art are genuine Hispanic. Definitely try El Paso, it's totally worth it!”
