Middletown Tavern
Sep 13, 2009 by Tony from Baltimore, MD

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[2] • Service:[2] • Atmosphere:[4]

  • Historical.
  • Poor service, small portions, quite expensive.

“A historic restaurant with an ambiance of an old Annapolis. Very accessible from the dock and the US Naval Academy visitors center. It is a nice place to review history but not a good place to eat. First, the portions of the food is small. The smallest Filet Mignon I have seen. The Lobster Ravioli Dela Rosa $16+ is a joke. It's like a Five Ravioli swimming in a pool of tomato sauce. I cannot even taste the lobster (if it has lobster on it?). Service, quite bad. Bread and butter was served after our main course. So if you want to review your history of Annapolis, go ahead. But if you want to fill you tummy after a long walk around Annapolis, try to avoid it.”

Food:[9] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Quality & quantity of food.
  • Parking.

“Excellent quality meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. First class baked goods. It is our restaurant of choice when in Annapolis. The staff treats us like regulars even though we are in Annapolis once or twice each year. Parking may be a problem during peak meal times.”

Carrols Creek Cafe
Apr 10, 2009 by Margie from Annapolis

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • View of water is nice.
  • Poor management skills, customer service.

“I was seated to find that someone had left their gum on my seat and it got all over both legs of my black silk pants. When notifying the manager, he made no apologies, and acted like it was a bother, and gave me some ice chips and a sharp knife to scrape it off of my pants! It was so disgusting. He didn't offer any assistance, not even a free drink, or cry cleaning voucher, etc. Nothing. We had a party of 8 - big mistake, none of us will go back.”

Big Easy Cajun
Mar 21, 2009 by Dan Burns from Elkridge, Md

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Big Danny burns wings over America.
  • Not enough heat in the food.

“After my last incarceration, I decided to try out this restaurant right down from the jail. Great Cajun food, and I was indeed asked to be a guest chef for a big party. I made my BDB wings and won the place over.”

  • The restaurant is not clean.

“Nice restaurant with a water views, however the cleanliness of the restaurant is in question as everyone in my party of 4 become ill less than an hour of eating at this establishment. I would recommend staying away until they clean up.”

Mcgarveys Saloon & Oyster Bar
Dec 2, 2008 by Mike from Just outside of L.A.

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • VERY helpful waitresses/servers.
  • It's a little crampt for space in the bar area.

“One of the waitresses is extremely helpful. One of the most helpful and upbeat of any restaurant I've eaten at. The atmosphere is very nice, very clean place. The only thing, it's a little crampt for space in the bar area.”

Chriss Charcoal Pit
Nov 2, 2008 by Iris from Columbia MD

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Family run, intimate, courteous, great food & service.
  • Closed too early -- 9:00 pm.

“It is a very casual, fairly small restaurant where the Greek food is among the best I have ever eaten. Real chunks of roasted lamb in the souvlaki and gyros. Delicious onion rings and French fries. This restaurant should not be passed by if you like Greek food.”

Jalapenos Mexican Foods
Jul 2, 2008 by Patrick from Annapolis

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4

  • Ample parking.
  • The host was a condescending a-hole to my 12 years daughter who just wanted a burrito.

“This is not the type of Tex-Mex restaurant most Americans are familiar with. This is a truly traditional Spanish (with some Spanish-American recipes thrown in) eatery, so don't expect chime changes and burritos (those are on the menu, but on the back page in the meager a-la carte section). But that is not why I give this place 4 out of ten. The reasons for the low score include the exorbitant prices and snobbish staff. The host took it upon himself to chastise my 12 year old because she ordered a burrito. The service was generally OK, but a little slow, and the presentation was awful (likely due to the fact we were not ordering the $24 fish - a dish I could get at most non-Mexican/Spanish restaurants) or some other overpriced offering.”

Mcgarveys Saloon & Oyster Bar
Jun 1, 2008 by David from Annapolis

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[8] • Service:[7] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Raw bar, male bartenders are very knowledgeable, great burgers and steaks for reasonable prices.
  • High drink prices, clueless female bartender who looked like she would rather spit than smile, slightly claustrophobic saloon side.

“McGarvey's is a local favorite, especially for their raw bar. Drink prices are the most expensive in town, but the pours are liberal and the bartender has a promo check to use if he likes you. The menu is traditional Americana, with some unusual stuff like Lumpia with plum sauce thrown in. An all-around nice place to eat, but don't bring your children, they are not welcome, hence the word Saloon in their title.”

Double T Diner
Apr 9, 2008 by Robert from Leonardtown Maryland

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[1] • Service:[5] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • Wait staff were nice and pleasant.
  • The food was awful.

“The wait staff was great, the food looked great. The taste of our food was downright nasty and awful. The crab cakes if you would call them that were the worst I have ever had in Maryland. The tiny cup of coleslaw that came with my burger was nasty as it was drowned in mayonnaise and had no flavor either. I think they need to get chef Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen there to teach them how to cook. We were thinking about coming back late one night for a meal but now we wont be back ever again.”

Wild Orchid Cafe
Dec 18, 2007 by Mati from Virginia

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Great ambiance.
  • A little on the high price for dinner.

“I absolutely loved it! The location is perfect if you are looking for a tranquil, intimate, beautiful place to relax and enjoy a nice dinner, since the restaurant is located in the heart of a residential neighborhood. The building is like an antique home, with wooden floors, yellow painted walls, white trims, very well maintained cute restrooms. They also have a patio, where I think they serve as well, but I ate inside, in a cozy table by a window facing the very quite road. The service was professional and courteous. The food was excellent, attractively served (a little bit expensive on the dinner menu, in my opinion). I have to admit that although we were the only customers in the restaurant at the time, it took a little too long for the food to come to our table. We didn't mind the delay that much because it allowed us the time to relax and enjoy every moment (I prefer that a thousand times to those that are rushing you out the door the minute you walk in). We'll definitely go back!”

Marias Scilian Ristorante Cafe
Oct 27, 2007 by Christine from Edgewater

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[8] • Service:[5] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • The food was good.
  • No amount of good food can make up for the way we were treated.

“The food was excellent and our waitress was good, it was not busy so waiting for food was not an issue. Everything is priced a la carte through. Beware because the hostess was snobby and rude! She ignored us when we first came to be seated. By Annapolis standards I would say that our group was all dressed "nice," but judging by the other clientele, you must be 60 or older and be wearing at least a button down with a sweater over top even when it is warm outside to not be treated poorly (at least half of them). We sat in the bar area and were stared at throughout our meal by the hostess. For having reasonable prices for entrees, they certainly have a high opinion of themselves. Even though the food was good, I doubt that I will return given the way that we were treated. .”

Marias Scilian Ristorante Cafe
Sep 26, 2007 by Jenice from Pittsburgh, PA

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Location, atmosphere, food, service, and great drinks.
  • Limited parking but valet is great.

“While visiting my daughter with my mom and sister, we had a change of plans and called Marias to see if we could get a reservation. In late July on a Saturday, we weren't sure. We were lucky enough to get a reservation and happy to find out they had valet service as my mom has some difficulty walking and parking is tight. Our dinners were wonderful and the service was great. The lobster pasta was a real treat and the salads were delicious. We left the restaurant to take a short cruise and returned to find out if we could sit outside to have a drink. At first they said we would have to order food, but we told them we had dinner just a couple of hours earlier and they said it was ok. It was wonderful to sit outside, sipping a martini on a beautiful summer night watching people. We had a marvelous night and my husband and I are returning in a few weeks to celebrate our daughter's birthday and we can't wait!”

Wild Orchid Cafe
Sep 4, 2007 by Bob from Annapolis

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4
Food:[4] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • Atmosphere was cute.
  • Quality and preparation of the food was terrible.

“Went with my wife and a nice couple that we are good friends with. We had to wait for 50 minutes for the appetizers to be served. The waitress made it obvious that she really did not enjoy her job. My wife's salad was terrible. I had the Atlantic salmon that was very dried out. My good friend had the duck and the same 'happened' to his. It was dry as a bone. We attempted to communicate this to the waitress and she exhibited no concern at all. Having lived in this town for 10 years I will make no attempt to go there again as well as my friends. A truly disappointment and a waste of money.”

Pussers Landing
Aug 4, 2007 by Jim from Annapolis

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[7] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • Food is good.
  • Overall experience was unpleasant.

“Terrible management that does not care about client service. While some boat traffic is expected in a marina restaraunt, large boat unloadings occurred right in front of our table with 20-25 people milling around, hovering over us, blocking our view for 15 minutes or longer, and belching diesel fumes. Management did nothing to improve the situation or compensate us. I will never eat there again.”

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[2] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • Dogs were outside.
  • The food, the prices, serving time.

“I won't go into how disappointed I was with Grumps, because quite frankly it gave me the Grumps. I waited 25 minutes for a veggie sandwich to go. That's lettuce, tomato, onion, and bell pepper on a bun. There was literally nothing to cook but it took 25 minutes for that....and the place was empty. Oh...and that sandwich was $9.”

Marias Scilian Ristorante Cafe
Apr 8, 2007 by barbara from huntingtown, md

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5
Food:[6] • Service:[4] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Nice location.
  • Just about everything else.

“Very disappointing! Chose Maria¿s based on recommendation of an acquaintance and reviews (although all were not positive); didn't care that it is pricey, just wanted great food for an anniversary dinner. Our service was poor - he seemed a bit aloof, didn't tell us the specials of the day (after dinner we noticed the sign in the window), didn't offer a wine list until we asked, then brought the wrong kind. The menu is al a carte so everything (soup, salad, entrees) are priced separately. We ordered the spinach salad for two which was about $13.00. It was plain baby spinach dumped on a plate with about two tablespoons of crumbled bacon and mushrooms in the center - very little dressing - we asked for some and was given a bottle of oil and wine vinegar. My entree, red snapper, was good. My husband, veal piccata, was tough and kind of a slimy texture on the outside. Each entree costs about $28.00. All in all - definitely not worth the effort - find some other Italian restaurant. Carrabba's which a chain beats Maria¿s on all levels is.”

Sams Waterfront Cafe

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[3] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • The view.
  • The service!

“I experienced the worse service I have ever had at Sam's. The waiter was extremely rude to my table. The food was okay, the view is amazing, but the service was horrendous. I went for lunch on my birthday and left in tears because the waiter made me feel so horrible. He threw my plate in front of me. I saw him point to my table to another waiter and talk about us while we were right there! They are very unprofessional. It's a shame because it's a great location. I will never go there again!”

Cafe Normandie
Aug 22, 2006 by Disappointed from Virginia

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4
Food:[4] • Service:[5] • Atmosphere:[4]

  • Wine.
  • Food, Management/Owners, Atmosphere.

“I read several reviews before selecting this restaurant for our day trip to Annapolis. Despite several mixed reviews, I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. I had walked by it many times before and was curious about the touting of a #1 rating for Annapolis Restaurants in a top 100 restaurant in the Washington DC/Baltimore area. BIG MISTAKE! Restaurant was promoted as having a romantic ambiance; however, this was not the case. I found it to have more of a retiree/family atmosphere. With the exception of the goat cheese salad, our food was less than mediocre and certainly not worth the $18-28 entire cost. I had Salmon with what tasted like Goya rice that I could have easily made at home - not to mention that it did not compliment the meal. Our deserts were average but nothing special and again not worth the average $8 price. We did enjoy the wine selection. Our service was fine; although management was lax in responding appropriately to a table of disruptive patrons who negatively impacted the dining experience of several parties nearby when it was brought to their attention. Don't make the same mistake I did, listen to the reviews! I hope that taking the time to share this feedback, you will have a more memorable dining experience in Annapolis then we did!”

Jalapenos Mexican Foods

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Call to find out when they have the Flamenco Dancers coming.
  • Don't let the dollar store next door fool you, the inside is beautiful. Very romantic. Waterfall and murals and double sided fireplace.

“In my search for California Mexican food, I ran across Jalapenos. It's not what I was used to in California. It's better. The dinner rolls they bring to the table are to die for. Wonderful margaritas and the Sangria is fabulous! The service was amazing, friendly, fast, truly nice people too. The chef is a magician, truly creative with a Spanish flare mixed with Mexican favorites. Do not miss the Chi my conga banana cheese cake dessert. My daughter who lives in CA makes a pilgrimage for it whenever she visits.”
