Pizzapapalis
Apr 19, 2009 by David from Brighton

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • The food is amazing.
  • Nothing stands out for being negative.

“By far the greatest pizza anyone will ever have. I alone can eat a whole little Caesars pizza to myself, but when it comes to PizzaPapalis, I'm lucky to get 3 down. Absolutely best portion size for your money.”

Pegasus Taverna
Mar 28, 2009 by Franklin from Chicago

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[5] • Service:[2] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • Nothing positive to say.
  • Too many.

“The service was poor, the waitress had an attitude and was extremely rude. Our table was dirty. The fake grapes on their arbor were filthy - covered in grease and dust. The place smelled bad. Greasy and moldy. The lamb was undercooked. My silverware had crusted remnants of somebody else's meal on it. It was next to impossible to get our water topped off. The whole experience was one major turn off. And the prices were not good either, considering the quality of the experience and everything. When we complained, a manager our table and he had wild eyes and attitude. We will definitely choose another place to eat from here on in. That was the first and the last time for any of us at The Pegasus Taverna.”

Gourmet Deli
Feb 29, 2008 by Marshall from Detroit

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[9] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • Salad bar selections, soups.
  • Some prices tend to run a little high.

“Excellent food and terrific service. Their salad bar is to die for. Can be a little pricey but not overly so. Located in the Renaissance Center 500 tower. Although they have some tables set up outside in the common area, the Ren Cen support staff and office workers mostly take carry out. They open at 6:00 AM.”

Scotty Simpson's Fish & Chips
Jan 9, 2008 by Dan from Dallas, TX

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Love the Fish and the Fries.
  • Don't care much for the coleslaw, but who's going there for the slaw anyways.

“This is the absolute best place in the Midwest to get Fish and Chips. My family has been eating at Scotty's since the 70's and anytime we happen to be in Detroit, you can find us at Scotty's. I have an uncle that will plan lay-over in Detroit just so he can sneak out and get some Scotty's. You will not be disappointed.”

Vivios Food & Spirits
Oct 15, 2007 by Chris

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Lasagna.
  • Wait - even off-season.

“We were off-season for visiting 'up north' (October) but Vivios was still busy with only a 15 minute wait on a Saturday night. Drinks were a little on the pricey side, but stiff. Decor is definitely 'up north' which is exactly you desire and expect. I am a lasagna bigot. Nobody can make it better than my mother (not Italian) but Ive tried it everywhere and nobody beats moms. Until Vivios. Wow. Tried the pizza, gave it an 8, didn't try the tenderloin, but our friend did and gave it an 8. Do the lasagna, the sauce is amazing - it is a 10.”

Online Cafe Inc
Sep 26, 2007 by Peter from Detroit

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Service:[1] •

  • Atmosphere.
  • food not arriving even after 45 min of waiting.

“It is difficult to give an evaluation of the food due to not being able to eat the food. My wife and I had a flight on Friday, September 21. We had 1-1/2 hour until our flight therefore thinking that we could grab a meal before the flight. We ordered the meal at 13:45 and were served only a portion of the meal by 14:30 yet. It is not our practice to leave a restaurant without paying however we needed to go and it seems unacceptable that a restaurant especially in an airport would take 45 minutes plus to serve a meal. The response we received was "it's a shift change" hmmm that long for a shift change. I think administration needs to look at this and resolve because this potential customer will not return and neither will colleagues and other contacts after hearing from my wife and myself.”

Kwong Tung Inn
Jul 1, 2007 by Oriole from Birmingham

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • Delicious food, reasonably priced.
  • Dark, depressing, sparse dining room.

“The exterior is off-putting, some might even thing the building is abandoned. But don't let that dissuade you. Kwong Tung Inn has some of the best Chinese food in the area, and at very affordable prices. They do have a dining area, but the Ritz it isn't. I usually get my meals to go. Their most expensive menu item is less than $7. The portions are generous, and the flavor exquisite. They have several combination meals available (by combo I mean you can get Egg Foo Young and Pepper Steak, or Garlic Ribs and Sweet and Sour Pork). All dinners come with fried rice and an egg roll. I've introduced many friends and relatives to the food at Kwong Tung Inn over the years, and I've never heard a negative comment yet.”

Laffrey's Steaks On The Hearth, Inc
Jun 17, 2007 by Bob from Northville

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • They have areas that are cigar friendly as well as non-smoking areas.
  • Not open for lunch.

“This is a place that you go to and dine, not a quick meal, not an eat and run. It's an event! Of the many trips I have made I have never been disappointed.”

Laffrey's Steaks On The Hearth, Inc
May 30, 2007 by Mike Anleitner from Livonia, MI

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Food, service, atmosphere.
  • Atmosphere.

“Life's is a great place. The food is very good, and the specials are always worth considering. The one major drawback--for some--is the ambiance. The interior looks like a high-end place right out of the early 1960's. You almost expect the cast of "77 sunset strip" to be eating there. Personally, I think this is an incredibly retro-cool atmosphere, but it does make for some tight seating and some people may find the atmosphere to be a negative.”

Telway Hamburger System
Jul 4, 2006 by Joslin from Detroit

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Open 24 hours, 7 days all year round.
  • There's only one in Detroit !

“Telway, at 6820 Michigan Avenue ( about 5 short blocks west of Livernois ) is, I think, the spot for the flat-out best "Take out coffee" in Detroit. A 4-year old restaurant review in the Metro Times doesn't even mention "the coffee" which is prima facie cause for questioning the review & the rag it came in, not Telway's abrosiac Joe to go, available on an around -the-clock basis every day of the week, all year round regardless of the weather. It is a very reasonable bicycle ride from anywhere within a mile or two of Downtown Detroit. Those traveling via motorized transport would be able to fetch the java & return it piping hot to most local nests w/o delay or inconvenience. Telway coffee is so good that better can't be found anywhere, homespun OR professionally percolated, in my semi-vast experience. In a spirit of generosity, it isn't necessary to mention all the great coffee spots equipped with imported specialty gear that are simply outstripped by this caffeine oasis w/ the plain Jane facade & the rolled- up shirt sleeves approach to serving the regular to the regulars . If necessary, I will undergo a polygraph exam furnished at my own expense & supervised by any active or retired G-man of MY Travel Guide's choosing to back my story up. The story is this. I have never spoken to any Telway patron who didn't think that Telway coffee was the "best ever, anywhere". Even the coffee bean brown Telway logo is enough to stir the blood & incite the imagination of an initiate. The mere chance sighting of a crumpled Telway paper cup stuffed under a car seat or rolling around in the back of a pick-up truck is often all it takes to break the ice between two strangers in one of America's stranger cities ( Detroit ). Happy to do what I can to inform the coffee drinking public about the # 1 primo coffee joint in Detroit & maybe most of North America.”
