Lam's Restaurant
Nov 5, 2009 by Sharon from Boston

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[3] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Cheap.
  • Horrific service, unnecessary attitudes, not accommodating.

“My first review of any restaurant - I am appalled by last night's experience. I was so excited to find a place near my work that served pho, and I ordered the beef pho. What arrived at my table was a bowl of American-style beef broth with chunks of beef and celery - yes, celery. No basil, no bean sprouts, no lime. After picking out the celery I tried it and it tasted nothing like pho. I asked the waitress if I could order something else as I was not expecting the type of "pho" that came to me. After hesitating and, at first, saying no, she then said I could order another dish but I'd still have to pay for the "pho." I asked to speak with a manager and she refused to have him come to my table, but instead told me to get up, go into the back of the restaurant, and speak with him. The manager tried to tell me that what I was eating was pho, and I must have no idea what pho is. After some argument I eat pho several times a week - pretty sure I know what pho is, he oh-so-graciously allowed me to choose something else, but told me no less than four times that I would not be allowed to return that dish. I told him I understood, selected another dish from the menu, and while I stood at his counter he then read to me what I had selected, ingredient by ingredient, to make sure I understood what I was ordering and understood that I was paying for it. Second dish was OK. Never going back.”

Dunn Gaherin's Food & Spirit
Jan 16, 2009 by Ellen from Needham

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Great food. Great service.
  • Can be loud in the dining area but still worth it.

“Have been enjoying this restaurant almost weekly since discovering it about a year ago. All the staff are exceptionally friendly and inviting and truly concerned about the customer's experience. The homemade soups are superb and the daily specials are imaginative as well as always delicious. The portions are generous. Although usually no room for dessert the dessert menu is impressive.”

Dunn Gaherin's Food & Spirit
Nov 25, 2008 by J P from Boston

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Very welcoming, accepts most credit cards, extensive & inexpensive menu.
  • Only seats approximately 80 people.

“Have often driven by, but no more. Near public transportation with handicapped access. The five-page inexpensive menu includes beer, wine, and mixed drinks and a separate page of daily specials. Note: be sure to watch for the proprietors' sense of humor.”

Skip Jacks Restaurant
Mar 26, 2008 by Carol from Boston

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[2] • Service:[6] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • We did not wait long for a table.
  • The food did not live up to the reputation of Skipjacks.

“We found it to be pricey and the food was not good at all. Our fish and clams were overcooked.”

Cherry Tree The
Jan 25, 2008 by ED from west harford, CT

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Sirloin Tips.
  • Nothing.

“If a neighborhood pub is what you're looking for, look no further! I travel from West Hartford for their Sirloin Tips and Mashed potatoes. Service is a little slow, so sit back and grab a beer and relax. The meal will be worth the wait!”

Amarin Of Thailand
Nov 7, 2007 by TT from Watertown

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Fairly inexpensive, great food, impressive ambiance. The best pad Thai in Boston!
  • Nothing negative to say, whatsoever.

“My wife and I love Thai food and have tried most all such restaurants in the metro west area of Newton, Watertown, Waltham, Wellesley, Brighton, Belmont, Arlington, and Cambridge. No other establishment can match the taste of pad Thai that amazing makes! The quality of food is consistent between both locations (Wellesley center and Newton corner), but we tend to go to Newton Location more, where the staff know us and the restaurant decor is superb. They keep prices so low that this great restaurant competes with take out Thai! You will get an even better deal if you go there for lunch on the weekend. The best thing is that parking at adjacent multi story garage is free at night or with validation during the day and they will always have a table for you the most we've ever waited was 10 to 15 minutes.”

Lam's Restaurant
Sep 11, 2007 by Lauri from Brookline

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4
Food:[8] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • Food is good.
  • rude wait staff every time I've been in - about 8 or 9 times, even takeout

“The food is good that's why I go back but the wait staff is so unfriendly. Recently they charged me a dinner price for a meal when I walked in 15 minutes before 3 (they serve lunch until 3) and they gave me the lunch menu. When I complained she said I didn't order until after 3. I said yeah I waited a while for you to take my order, she snapped "I came by your table but you were on the phone!" My daughter called me shortly after I sat down, I kept the call to 1:40 so they had plenty of time to take my order before 3. Besides, that takes a lot of nerve! They've always been curt with me, but this one takes the cake. She got zero tips and lost my business for good.”

Skipjack's Seafood Emporium
May 8, 2007 by Very Particular from Boston

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5
Food:[3] • Service:[5] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • The parking was ok.
  • The food was terrible.

“Lots of care was taken in preparing the meals. Over the years, however, they have gotten very, very bad! Tried baked scrod on another visit and it was also bad. Save your money and go to a good seafood restaurant. Or stop by the supermarket and pick up a can of Chicken of the Sea or a box of those totally unelectable Gorton's things. At least you'd save money and can eat them in the comfort of your own home! ”

Bertucci's Brick Oven Pizzeria
Mar 21, 2007 by Matt from Omaha, NE

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7
Food:[7] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • Food, service.
  • None.

“I've been in Newton quite a bit lately and have eaten here often. The food is wonderful and the service has always been stellar. For my part, I think the pasta dishes are better than the pizza, but both are far above average.”

Lam's Restaurant
Apr 5, 2006 by Rora from Boston

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Great food, staff.
  • Tables a bit too close together.

“Lam's has wonderful, flavorful food at very reasonable prices. Parking is plentiful in the area, an added bonus. The staff are efficient and warm, very understanding about children (our toddler once broke a glass and they didn't even charge us... now we get a bit more take out!). Menu is varied and portions are large, enough for several "doggie bag" meals at home. Fresh ingredients, quality meats and vegetables, and WONDERFUL brown rice. My only concern is that tables can feel too cramped together, so eating too close to others. However, overall, a great experience.”

Feb 17, 2005 by Mark A . from New Canaan, CT

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Great food
  • A bit expensive

“This place has an Irish pub type atmosphere. It is always crowded for dinner for good reason. The food is great. I would highly recommend the steak tips. A great place to go for great food and drink and a friendly atmosphere.”
