“While it might be a good value for the money if the food was moist, it is not because of the dried out meats. The waitress told us that the dessert was included and it wasn't. The owner wouldn't do any thing to make it up to us. The steam table had unmarked, unidentifiable dishes, the cold table was abuzz with flies and they followed us to our table every time we sat back down. They were very attentive to our drinks, though. But at 7 a pop and nothing to write home about, why wouldn't they be? Stay away at all costs.”

“Bluefin Restaurant is a great place to find inexpensive and highly authentic Japanese cuisine. Their sushi prices are excellent, and their combo specials are a great value. My husband loves the donburi rice bowls, and my younger daughter loves the miso soup. This restaurant is amazingly tolerant of children and has a wide selection of kid-friendly foods. It's a bit crowded and tends to fill up quickly during peak times, and I'm mildly annoyed by the televisions in every dining room. But compared to the other tiny restaurants in the Porter Exchange, it's downright roomy. Conveniently near the Kotobukiya grocery and video store, a bubble tea vendor, a small bakery, and Tokai, which sells Japanese teapots, clothing, and novelty items like stuffed Totoro and Hello Kitty dolls. This is my daughters' favorite place to go out to eat.”

“Really tasty slow-and-low cooked barbeque and wicked fresh seafood. I had the tuna tacos and the ribs platter. Beautiful pink smoke ring on the ribs, very tasty. Best fish tacos I have ever had. Also, the best brunch in the city with a massive make-your-own mary bar.”

“Great atmosphere. The bread rolls they serve you with are an excellent way to start a meal. I highly suggest getting Focacia or Ravioli. But there are plenty of great dishes at Bertucci's. I suggest going for lunch if you want a cheaper, yet still filling meal.”

“It's hard to find good Chinese food outside of Chinatown, in any city, but especially Boston. Luckily, Chang Sho has excellent food and service. The food is really tasty, emphasis on flavor and fresh vegetables; not heavy on fried meats or oily sauces. I especially love the Chicken and Chinese Eggplant, and we also love the weekend special of shrimp/spinach dumplings. PS, there is parking across the street.”

“The food at Helmand Afghan Restaurant is incredible. Everything was delicious and perfectly done, nicely presented. We tried the Kaddo appetizer-pumpkin w/sugar on yogurt/garlic sauce topped with ground beef sauce sounds weird, right? No scrumptious! Entrees were all tasty. Mine was Aushak-leek and scallion ravioli. Unbelievable. Every bite had a new nuance of wonderful flavor. Also sampled the other dishes our group ordered the spiced rice was just yummy; two different lamb dishes were both perfect, tasty but entirely distinct from each other, the trout was lovely. I think one person got the wrong entree but didn't care! Even the flatbread with 3 sauces for dipping was excellent. Make a reservation, and go there soon!”

“This restaurant is local to my home so my family has been a few times; it seems as though every time there has been at least one problem with our order. Tonight we ordered rice and asked that it not have bean sprouts in it, when we picked up the order, we asked about it again and they confirmed when we got home and found the bean sprouts they were not willing to work with us to fix our dinner. Reasonably expensive and service is quite disappointing. They even hung up the phone on me when I called with the complaints. We've also had trouble with them shortchanging us with extras such as rolls and sauces. We usually order food for 4 people, and have always gotten one roll in the past, with tonight's order we got none at all.”

“The meal was overall very disappointing: our appetizer was served with unripe, green tomatoes. My main dish was presented cold, upon reheating the meat was too chewy to finish. Furthermore, I was kept up most of the night with a terrible stomach ache. My meal had the strangest combination of flavors and sadly they just did not compliment each other. Upon complaining I was offered a free dessert. I declined; resolving never to return.”

“This is a great local eatery and watering hole. My favorite dish is the roast goat with fried potatoes and rice. You can sample great Portuguese cosine, wines and other fares. If you are looking for something other than the same mass market cosines in America then the sunset is for you. From seafood and a verity of meats, (beef, chicken, goat & rabbit) all the food is well prepared and fresh...”

“Great fresh seafood. A good menu with fresh daily choices put up on the wall on a huge blackboard. Open concept floor plan gives diners lots of room, even when busy. Comfortable chairs. Also has non-seafood choices. Fresh in-season veggies & fruits featured on the blackboard as sides and desserts.”

“Although the food at this restaurant is average, but the prices are above and the service is below. Even though the place was half empty on a Friday night, my friends and I felt rushed throughout the whole meal. The waiter came within one minute of seating us and asked if we were ready to order, then returned two minutes later and asked again. Without asking, they cleared our dishes before we were finished (including half of a spring roll, which doesn't seem like a lot until you realize you only get two tiny little rolls with your order). Finally, although one of the women in the group was treating the rest of us, the waiter brought her credit card back to the only man at the table, thanking him. We would have had a much better (and cheaper) experience with take-out...”

“The very best Chinese-American around. I love their fried rice. It's better than most anywhere you can find.”

“One of my favorite restaurants. I have taken all my friends and family here also, and they feel the same as I do. Exceptional food, service and atmosphere. I give Helmand a 10+ for everything.”

“A hot spot for locals. Great specials. The perfect place for a fun date in a casual atmosphere or for a large group. It's a bit on the expensive side - so we usually go there for birthday's. Try the tiki room for some fun drinks.”

“Ihis place was and is the best. I go there whenever I can when I am in boston. This is THE best restaurant I have been to in my life. It is to hard to explain it. Go there or you are missing something great.”

“A varied menu of tasty food with friendly and efficient service. If it is busy upstiars, don't hesitate to sit downstairs as, usually, there is no waiting time, even when the upstairs restaurant is full with people waiting. Sitting downstairs offers a quieter and more intimate dining experience. I would definitely go again.”

“The Chinese food is pretty good, but I always went for the Scorpion bowls. A great place to share a drink. There is college crowd bar on the second floor and a comedy club on the third floor (if you get there early enough - you can get a table and order food and drinks)”

“For good, quick food in Harvard or Central Square - I recommend Il Panino. The pizza is pretty good (and it is ready in about ten minutes), but it goes beyond pizza places with inexpensive menu items that are top notch. I haven't had better cheese ravioli in expensive restaurants. It's a local favorite.”

Peoples Republik The “Although the People's Republik added a selected menu last year, most people know to go there for a late night drink. It closes at 2 AM when most of the local bars close at 1, so it get's packed for last call. Get there early for a game of darts (you won't be able to play late at night because it gets too crowded), and you can do some great people watching. The bar features a mural of the old regulars. I would call it a”

“If you are looking for big servings for a little cash before you go in Central Square - go to Picante. The burritos are great (and huge). It's right across from The Good Life bar and Mr. Peanut. They sell a good variety of Mexican food. Nice big windows offer a view of the comings and goings of Central Square. It has a bit of fast food feel, but it's good and cheap.”

“If you are looking for a casual drink in Central Square - Phoenix Landing is a good pace to grab one. The food isn't anything special, but the burger was pretty good. If you are in the mood for an Irish pub, be careful about the night, on some nights, the bar turns into a dance club - on other nights there are bands.”

“A great place to bring family and friends who like a fun atmosphere, good Mexican/Tex-Mex food, and good drinks. Located right near the heart of Harvard Square, I usually bring out-of-towners there for fun dinner. It is a tourist spot, though, and it gets very crowded on weekend nights (though they keep the lines moving).”
