“This was the worst I've ever encountered for a night out. We were a crew of 6 people. The menu's were limited & very confusing. The prices were sky high. The food was cold & you didn't get much on the plate. They force fed us with rolls to supplement what we were not getting for the main meal. Three of us had 1/4" depth of Lobster Bisque in my bowl, with a 1" square Pork Belly for supper. The other three had noodles & beef. Box of pasta $0.99. The funny part of this is that those who frequent here seem to be enjoying it. I'm amazed this place has flourished. If you gave us a free meal here we wouldn't come again! I've had better meals in school cafeteria. This place is a joke & the sooner people wake up to it the better. Well the joke was on us.”

“First time at Durgin-Park. Perhaps bad luck first time but the food was awful with the some exception of the ribeye steak. However, they only serve it rare or medium rare. Appetizers: onion rings, chicken fingers, calamaris and baked beans a total disaster. No taste whatsoever. The peppercorn sauce for the ribeye was thin and salty. Tiny portions of sides like baked potato, French Fries and squash. Legal Seafood is a paradise compared to Durgin-Park and does not cost more. If this is one of Boston's showcases then Good Night. Only positive: our waitress was very nice and service was quick.”

“Great quick breakfast. No frills. Better lunch spots would be hard to find. Try one the panini sandwiches. Prices are low, good for good portions. A great lunch spot off Boston's Freedom Trail.”

“It started off with nice fresh bread, emphasis on fresh. But downhill from there. The salads were ridiculously drenched in dressing (how to ruin a Caesar salad). The chicken parmesan can be bought better in the frozen food case and the pesto sauce I imagined to be light in oil was a greenish paste. We stopped at Tecce's for old times sake but sadly the servings are stuck in time and we won't make that mistake again. Too bad, because the wait staff was genuinely friendly.”

“3 of 4 meals were cold, over priced, $85 risotto was undercooked. Will never go back there.”

“The bartender was very accommodating and we enjoyed hearing the history of this very old restaurant. When we got called to dinner (up a long staircase by the way, no elevators), the bartender carried dinner up the stairs for us. The meal was very good, and the service at the bar was unforgettable. We enjoyed our trip.”

“Going there for the first time was very disappointing. We didn't get seated until 8:30 and waited another 10 minutes before we were even acknowledged by a waitress. There was no apology nor consideration from the restaurant for this ridiculous wait. The food was nothing special. The Angel hair pasta was soft and overcooked. My veal Saltimbocca was way too salty. My friends neither complained nor raved about their dishes. I'll not go there again.”

“Perfect atmosphere but the food is extremely overpriced and really not worth the money. The service is even worse than the food. The staff is very unprofessional and unsanitary. I have had lunch and even had an event catered by them in the past. I will never make that mistake again. Sebastian's is far superior and dependable.”

“My wife and I found Pagliucas while walking/running through the North End getting drenched in a sudden down pouring rain. This was about 12 years ago and we have been going back every time we are in Boston. The food is wonderful, authentic, and cooked to order. I always have the Zuppa di escarole fagioli even though it is so huge I can't make it through the tender Veal Marsala. Have a Tiramasu and Sambuca with your espresso and you will return time and time again to this North End treasure.”

“Nice quiet spot to stop and have a bite to eat and drink. We had the appetizer sampler which was very good. A lot of food for a decent price. Overall appearance of restaurant was not that great but enjoyed the service.”

“Even though we waited a long time to get seated, it was well worth the wait. Due to the long wait the hostess sent over a wonderful appetizer of calamari (plenty for the 4 of us). The food was fantastic, and our waiter very attentive. It was a great find.”

“Food is very good. Their Pad Thai is one of the better I have had - although not as good as Siam Lotus in Norwood (they are the standard by which I measure all Thai restaurants - truly excellent in all regards). Parking is tricky, you can pull into the alley next to the restaurant and go inside and ask to park down the alley (you have to tell them that you're parking so you don't get ticketed). I have always been able to park, but then again, I tend to go at less busy times. Worth looking for.”

“DENOS subs are like the size of my arm, you really get what you pay for. Try the buffalo chicken wrap or steak and cheese! They're really quick with delivery too, and everyday 11-11. They let u order at like 10:58 ha-ha!”

“My friend saw a rat scurrying across the upper level dining room floor. It was after most of the patrons had left, at the end of the night. I mentioned it to a waiter downstairs on our way out, who commented it must have come from "next door.”

“Locke Ober is a true Boston institution and a glimpse back to the past. However, that hardly outweighs the high prices, average food and often rude service. Go once, then try one of Bostons really fine restaurants.”

“I have been to Pagliucas several times and found it to be an enjoyable little place for a delicious meal. It is faced paced and somewhat noisy at times but great. The true north end atmosphere. The meals were reasonable priced and the portions good size. The Pasta Fagiole was wonderful.”

“Good food, very good service. Moderate prices for the quality of the food and service. Wine list all French (heh, it is a French restaurant) but a very good selection of French wines. If it doesn't at least satisfy your date, change your date.”

“Brought 14 people for dinner including several children. Everything was perfect. The staff was very accommodating with the children and special requests. All the food came out in a timely manner and was really good. The calamari is the best I've ever had. The ambiance was sophisticated without being snobby. It is an incredible value for Boston. I will return soon either for a romantic dinner or with clients.”

“The food was delicious, but the portion was huge and thus resulted in me wasting over half of the meal. I would have preferred to have had a meal about a quarter of its size at a quarter of the price. My meal took a lot longer to be prepared than the other customers', which was annoying because I was in a hurry. I will definitely go back, but it's better as a dinner place than a lunch place.”

Atmosphere was boring. It does have a nice view of north square, though. There are 100 other restaurants within 2 blocks that I would recommend over this one.”

“After the news about rats in this restaurant, I still wanted to try it because the downtown Boston and Providence McCormicks are so nice. This one is not. The hostess assured me that the rat problem was fixed and that you could "eat off the kitchen floor." On my way to the very dirty bathroom I passed the kitchen, and it was slimy with food all over -- I would not walk on it, much less eat off it. The basement area was really gross. The bathrooms are down there and to get to them I had to walk on rubber outdoor carpeting which was soaked with water/slime -- very gross on my shoes. This place needs to be shut down, overhauled and done over - or McCormick should take its name off it. The staff was also not professional in appearance or performance. The manager walked about in an ill fitting black suit with well worn casual shoes. While that is not a big deal, it was distracting, and for the prices charged, I'd expect the good wait staff I experienced at both the Boston and Providence locations. This seemed like it was run by the management of an IHOP.”

“The sevens ale house is a fantastic little pub. The sandwiches are delicious, as is the homemade salsa, the list of beers is impressive, and it is one of the only places in Boston where you can shoot a game of darts. Def. A great place to go to have a few beers with friends. Highly recommended.”

“While the food and service were very good, my husband and I cannot recommend this restaurant. We went there for our 36th wedding anniversary dinner, and the manager ruined it for us by being rude and thoughtless. If he is an example of other managers in the Aquitaine organization, they care more about customer throughput than they do about customer satisfaction.”

“OK, the food was very good, but the atmosphere reminded me of a "fine dining establishment" of my youth. Sort of a suburban boudoir feel to it. It would be a safe place to take the grandparents, but not my first choice for a romantic date. The service was perfunctory. My 7 year old daughter joined us and they were happy to prepare a bowl of plain ziti with butter and Parmesan. The standouts included a tender and grease less fried calamari, mussels in a scampi style broth and a veal dish with artichokes, red pepper, olives, and mushrooms in a white wine sauce. The bread was the Italian equivalent of Wonder bread. They also have only a house red or white by the glass. The red wasn't bad, but it would have been nice to have more of a choice.”

“What more could a person want from a restaurant. Right around the corner from our hotel and I could see only a few blocks from others, this restaurant was the perfect place for breakfast or lunch and had us coming back all week. We were seated in the patio area and it was very enjoyable. Before we all even sat down in our chairs the waitress brought over menus and was ready to bring us drinks while we decided what to eat. Once we ordered it couldn't have been more than 10 minutes before we got our food and the restaurant was packed. The last delight was when the bill came and did not have me regretting I went there. Overall a surefire knockout, great for families to come there, as we did, or even those in Boston on business. ”

“Over-priced, bad meal. Salad was a pile of greens swimming in dressing. Entry was too salty to eat. I get the feeling that this is another place where the chef tries to trick diners into thinking they are having a gourmet experience by disguising poorly prepared and pre-cooked food with fancy decorations and sauces. ”

“Only a couple blocks from Copley Square, Papa Razzi is a wonderful find for modestly priced Italian food. The brochettes was excellent, very nice ripe tomatoes and warm crisp bread. Their Pollo alla Valdostana (grilled chicken breast with cheese, proscuitto and wild mushrooms) was equally good. The Parmigiano looked delicious and smelled better. They had no trouble seating a party of 6 while having tables for 2 tucked into quiet corners.”

“Went for Brunch, Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend. Waited in line for outside seating. But finally just walked in and got table inside. We waited for the table to be set, then for menus, then for the waiter. The waiter had tables indoors and outside which made it impossible for him to even serve coffee, juice and water efficiently. The kitchen was so slow that eggs took 40 minutes and were lukewarm on delivery. My sons had good memories of eating at Thornton's when they were at Northeastern but here are too many other good, inexpensive, fun places in Boston (including the other Thornton's near Fen way) to go here again.”

“Fresh City tries very hard to be appealing to everyone, and I think that's part of their downfall. They offer everything from coffee to smoothies, wraps to sandwiches, soups to noodles and salad to pizza. The problem is they do everything OK, but they don't do any one particular thing well. Most of their meats are cruelty-free, but they're rubbery. Their salad bar is fairly diverse, but not all of it is as fresh as it should be. Their soups are made fresh on premises each day, but the clams in the chowder are sandy. The food is a mediocre hit-or-miss, overall. The recent update to the dining area is a nice touch. There are colorful benches, plenty of table-and-chair seating, and a sunny little nook with couches and a coffee table. It's a good stop for families who are touring the Fen way area and need a nourishment / bathroom break, but not something to go out of your way for. ”

“McDonald's has teenagers that work for them, and no matter what- their guarantee is that your order will be messed up! McDonald's is NOT a healthy place to eat, they sell hamburgers, fries, fast food like that. McDonald's does have a 99 cent menu, and their meals are very cheap. a hamburger for 2 dollars and change. Small fries for like a dollar, etc. You could get a burger at TGI Friday's that's really tasty that's way more expensive. ”

“A dinner for four with appetizers cost me $90 last week on a recent trip to Boston. Not an unreasonable amount of money for a nice dinner, but this was anything but nice. I had their "famous" prime rib, which maybe is famous for its absolute lack of flavor. It was so horrible that I left 75% of it on the plate. My wife had fish and chips, which my wife said tasted like batter and chips. And the worst part, the batter was completely without flavor. The baked beans were bland at best. My mom joined us and had shrimp, which was mediocre, but at least wasn't horrible like my prime rib. And my daughter opted for spaghetti, which tasted like little more that tomato sauce. This place was bland at its best, and downright horrible at its worst. And given the cost, you'd be better off saving a few bucks and eating at one of the vendors in nearby Quincy Market. Literally, the meal was so bad, and we ate so little, that we all grabbed some dessert in Quincy Market because we were still hungry. Seriously, we had them wrap up our generous leftovers (mostly because it was so horrible) and we gave it to a homeless person on the walk back to our waterfront hotel. Durgin Park is a horrible place to eat. It survives on its quaint reputation for rude waitresses (which was funny, because the only thing pleasant about our meal was our nice waitress) and lots of food. Their portions are huge, but unfortunately, largely inedible. We travel extensively, and eat out all the time. We love quaint restaurants with their own oddities, and also enjoy fine dining at high end restaurants. We're not that picky! But this restaurant was, by far, the worst place we have eaten in our ten years of marriage.”

“My family and I stopped into the restaurant after church on a Sunday. It was just opening. The staff were very helpful to my mother who could not climb the stairs and so was elevated to the top in an old forties styled elevator. Each of us could gather the ingredients we wanted to be cooked by a chef into a quite sumptuous meal. The floor is kind of slippery which is the major drawback to the restaurant. The food was fresh and expertly prepared. The service was prompt and helpful. The floor was scary and made me very nervous. We plan to go again soon.”
