Devotay Inc
Dec 2, 2008 by Jewell from Iowa

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[10] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Great food and service.
  • A little cramped for kids. Also not sure if they would like anything on the menu.

“Good food and very friendly service. However not sure I'd take my kids here, but would definitely go back with a group of friends or just me and my husband.”

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[6] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Decent food.
  • Disgusting atmosphere, terrible service, unacceptable.

“I've been to Givanni's multiple time every other week for several months, the food has always been halfway decent but the other night I was extremely dissatisfied by the quality of service we were given.”

Hilltop Lounge
Oct 5, 2008 by Mary from Iowa City

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Real mashed potatoes and gravy.
  • Limit on cookies unless ordered ahead of time.

“Lunches are excellent. They are fast, tasty, and reasonably priced. Lunch specials change every day and a monthly menu is available so you can plan to be there for your favorites. The tenderloins are excellent. Members of the staff are all very friendly. The cookies are excellent and a real good buy. Definitely try the cookies.”

Motley Cow Cafe
Jul 22, 2008 by Robyn

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5
Food:[8] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • Food was good.
  • Service and atmosphere greatly lacking.

“Under whelmed. That's the best word I can come up with about my experience at Motley Cow. Having heard gushing reviews of the place by several locals, my husband and two friends and I probably had unrealistic expectations. The service was terrible. Our waitperson didn't know a thing about the wines, and disappeared for the majority of the time we were there, while various other people brought our food and refilled our drinks. I felt like we were treated as if we couldn't possibly spend enough money to warrant their attention. (We are all in our low 30's, which clearly is on the younger end of their clientele.) I have to say that I've never been treated like that in a restaurant in Iowa City before. Or actually, anywhere. The food was pretty good, but the atmosphere and poor service definitely detracted from it. We won't go back.”

Carlos O'Kelly's
Apr 1, 2008 by Ned from Edina, MN

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7
Food:[4] • Service:[6] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Delicious looking margaritas and fried ice cream desserts.
  • Not authentic tasting Mexican food.

“The chips and salsa were a great start but when the food arrived, I realized that I should have just stuck to the chips and salsa. The chicken seemed undercooked and the enchilada sauce left no memorable impression. The staff seemed very young and unpardonable. The food seemed too Americanized.”

Mar 24, 2008 by Dan from Iowa City

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Everything.
  • Nothing.

“Sushi Popo is the best sushi in the area period. Probably the best sushi you can get without driving four hours to Chicago. A great place for family dinner or a date. I would 100 percent recommend it.”

Jan 3, 2008 by Rich from Coralville

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[6] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Although busy conversing with co-workers, an attractive waitress.
  • The meal served, long wait, undercooked.

“Raw meat served daily by lazy kitchen staff. I Waited 20 mines. In an empty restaurant for a pub style burger that was not only slightly pink, but absolutely refrigerator cold in the center. I will recommend this restaurant to business travelers however 'cause after one visit I can't imagine that they will ever again contribute to local traffic congestion.”

El Ranchero Mexican Restaurant
Sep 12, 2007 by Anna from Iowa City

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[2] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • Cheap (but still not worth it).
  • The food.

“That this was voted the best Mexican food in Iowa city indicates that there is no good Mexican food to be found. Both my boyfriend and I were so disappointed in the quality, flavor, and preparation that we will not be returning. I had an enchilada, taco, and tostada, all chicken. The chicken in all 3 was under seasoned and moist to the point of being watery and flavorless. My enchilada sauce was obviously canned, and reminded me of school cafeteria food. The tostada was just flavorless, and was essentially a mixture of boiled chicken, shredded lettuce, Pico De Gallo, and sour cream. The Pico De Gallo was alright, but given the extreme flavorlessness of the rest of the tostada, I chose not to eat it. The taco was the best of the 3. Unfortunately, the shell was wet and falling apart after having been set on top of the tostada. The half of the taco with cheese was actually tasty. The other half, which got most of the meat, was just slightly better than the inedible tostada. My b/f had a beef burrito, with meat cooked so long that it was hard to chew. This is the only place I have ever been that had chips so then that they regularly broke of into the salsa. The salsa flavor was okay, but it was very thin and light in flavor, more like tomato puree mixed 3:1 with actual salsa. When leaving, I had one of those "part of my life Ill never get back" moments that seem to accompany the most disappointing and unexciting events. The waiter was friendly and good with soda refills. The wall next to our table was nasty dirty. You would be doing yourself a favor by going anywhere else. The beef in his burrito was so overcooked that it was difficult to chew, and the flavor was just strange.”

Vito's
Feb 18, 2007 by Jennifer from Chicago

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[7] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Food. Ambiance.
  • Problem solving.

“I've been a regular at Vito's for a few years now. It's great for business meetings in the afternoon, quiet and quick service. A date can be had at the cozy tables in front of the windows. And I've seen my share of families frequent there before 7pm. This place becomes a night club after 10pm and stops serving food at 9pm. The price is reasonable. The only bad thing is when there is a problem, no one seems able or willing to fix it for you. It's rare that I have any problems with service or any order gone wrong. ”

Takanami LLC
May 26, 2006 by Barbara from Iowa City

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • THE FOOD.
  • The noise .

“Great sushi and Asian-American fusion food, good service, bustling. Only negatives: it is very loud, the manner in which it is constructed provides no noise-muffling; a greasy aura pervades body and clothing after a visit. Not family-friendly unless kids like sushi etc. Not suggested for business travelers who to have a working dinner meeting. Expensive.”
