“If you want a great pizza and onion rings, it's the place to go. They have the best sauce & meat balls in Des Moines. The price is average.”

“Friday or Saturday night when there are 1-2 hour waits at other chains, you can get right in at Cheddars even when they're busy. The food is excellent and the service is always friendly. Portions sizes are huge, so get a to-go box and save room for the COOKIE MONSTER. This is one desert you can't miss! This is our families favorite American cuisine restaurant in Des Moines.”

“The salad good, baked potato and the bread but steak (what we came for) half of it, inedible, gristly and unchewable and when I spoke to the manager about it, he didn't seem to care and didn't apologize for it, just asked how everybody else's was (theirs was fine) and then made a joke about the whole thing.”

“This is one of the best locally owned and operated restaurants in the Des Moines Metro area! The meals are very flavorful with generous portions. The first time eating the Mexican steak I was pleasantly surprised that it was tender enough to cut with a fork. There are no bad meals to be had. Good service. Casual attire. Very affordable especially for family groups.”

“Best hamburgers ever! Wish they would come to council bluffs or Omaha Ne.”

“Excellent restaurant on court for the money! I'll stack up the special (Steak & Shrimp) against anyone's. The creamy garlic dressing is to die for. In addition to fine service the bar is great too. It is a little dark for most, but I understand they are going to remodel and uncover the existing windows. Parking can be a problem, but if you want to pay, there is a parking garage across the street. Although onion rings come with most dinners and lunches, order them for an appetizer. An order will give 4 people all they want. The onion rings are thin and crispy. Bon appetite!”

“Great, authentic, Italian food. Very affordable. Generous portions. Something for everyone. The sauce and meatballs are the best in town. The walls are full of mostly old family pictures.”

“The first year the pleasant hill, Iowa diner opened my wife and I had dinner there. The size of my hamburger patty only covered half of the bun. My French fries were cold and stale. The manager was making his rounds and asks us how everything was. I told him my fries were cold and he just said "oh, I¿m sorry".”

“The fact that this place was pretty dead before 8PM on a Friday night should told me something. I took my wife to this place for her birthday. We both had the stuffed lobster at about $40 bucks a pop. It was terrible! First they brought out 1 lobster that was undercooked and gave us each a half. Apparently they had a mix up and only cooked the one. Then 20 minutes later they brought out the other lobster and it was tough and overcooked. The butter they provided with this was not only salted but had overpowering garlic and spices in it. Anyone who is a lobster fan should skip this place. The stuffing was awful to boot. Service was slow and they ran out of soup before 8pm so we skipped that course. If you like Outback steakhouse bread your going to miss that here. They brought out what looked and tasted like a giant hamburger bun! Good luck getting them to cook your steak the way you want it.”

“Great food and low cost. With so many Mexican restaurants in town it is hard to choose. This by far is the most affordable of the many I have been to. I eat there at least once a week and highly recommend it. Friendly staff/ Spanish novellas and soccer on TV/ great jukebox with Mexican and Latin music/ and quick service are some of the highlights. All you can drink fountain drinks and a great selection of beer to boot. Try the enchiladas/burrito/sops/fajitas are excellent especially the shrimp seasoned with Jalapeños (Spicy!)”

“The surroundings were pleasant although the middle level dining was so dark we had to hold our menus to the candle in order to read. The appetizer of calamari and shrimp was unique and tasty. For our main course my husband selected the seafood Alfredo and the sauce was more like hamburger helpers sauce instead of Alfredo The main part of the evening that put a damper on everything was the complete lack of service. Each time we asked the waiter for something (like our order) he was walking away because his goal was apparently spending as little time at each table as possible. When my husband asked for some coffee to go with the dessert (he didn't offer to see a dessert menu or ask if we were interested, again, we caught him as he was walking away) he brought his coffee and failed to refill mine.”

“Wonderful food, very good service and great atmosphere. I did like their previous building/location better, but the city made them move. They did a fantastic job recreating it. A nice place for a quiet meal as a couple or with friends. Since they have added a side to the restaurant for family dining, it will fit the bill for most anybody. Reasonably priced for the food you receive. They have a good salad bar with some specialties of their own. We recommend it to a lot of people. Their new restaurant is on Army Post Road, on an outlet by Southbridge Mall .”

“Neighborhood sports bar. Great atmosphere to stop by with friends after work or to get a drink over lunch. Small and intimate with dark wood. Older well-off business crowd. One of the gems of Des Moines. ”

“Unbelievably busy place, way too long of a wait for a table only to be met with just pretty good food.”

“Tops is a dump, plain and simple, however, the food is passable and based on a meat, potatoes and salad cafeteria plan. You grab your tray, walk through the line and order what you want - as long as it's the special. Very reminiscent of the Saturday Night Live " Cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger and Pepsi. Prices are not too bad and you do fill up whether you want to or not.”
