User Reviews for Springfield Restaurants« Go back to Steamboat Springs HotelsResearch User Reviews for Springfield (1-20 of 23)Cafe Brio
“Cafe Brio offers contemporary southwest food that more often than not is prepared very well and I enjoy eating there. The service, on the other hand, is so amateurish and oblivious that you must actually tell the wait staff not to bring the main dish while you are still in the middle of your appetizers - unless you want them to do just that. The decor might be described as urban minimalism with a southwest flavor; okay but functional at best. From the outside the place always and I mean always, looks closed. Many non-locals probably do not even know it is there, which is too bad.”

“This is a marvelous, old-fashioned sea food restaurant located in a charming, Italianate house built in the 19th Century. My wife and I make a point of eating there every year when we travel to Springfield for an annual winter event. We lean toward the large, fresh, lightly battered fried shrimp, but you can also order fresh lobster and several other fish and seafood items. Or have surf and turf. They also do a nice job with steaks. Save room for dessert.”

“Well, it might have been okay, but we didn't get a chance to eat.”

“This is as much of a deli that you can find in this part of the country. The owner and his staff is exceptionally friendly and very welcoming (we were there at the end of rush hour so we saw both sides). The food was priced right for the quality offered. The meat was obviously fresh as was the variety of breads he used. We each ended up with a different type of bread and were extremely pleased (Deli quality). The soups are exceptional and obviously fresh. Try the chicken tortellini. Other customers said the cheesecake was everything they expected. Generally a great place to jump in for a sandwich. Most customers are take-out so tables are always available. Definitely worth a try!”

“The one in Chatham is excellent, and has been for years. It is strictly delivery and carry out. No dine in and the place isn't fancy. The people are friendly and the pizza is a good value for the money.”

“We tried this cafe on a busy Saturday morning. I don't know if they were short handed or if everyone was new, but it seemed to me everything was so chaotic, messy and unorganized. First, we waited over 10 minutes at a table before our waitress even noticed us. After placing our order, we waited another 35 minutes for our food. I know that things happen in restaurants that are uncontrollable. I think our waitress was new and overwhelmed. But anything I can't stand is to have to wait during poor, slow service to get bad food! Our eggs weren't cooked properly, our potatoes and pancakes were cold, the toast was burnt. One omelets had the wrong ingredients and the list goes on. We tried to get our waitress attention, but to no avail. Being now short on time, we picked at what we could and tried to flag her down for our check. We never got it. I finally went to the register to pay and the cashier somehow found my check that said I owed $46.00! That was ridiculous. So after waiting there while the cashier went to find who knows, the waitress comes up and gives me my ticket for $23.15 and takes off. Now I have to continue standing there until the cashier finally came back.”

“This restaurant is a great idea, and with a few touch ups could be an excellent place to eat. We arrived early so encountered several restaurant people "working" at the tables, which was a bit of a turn-off. Too, we had a trainee waitress tagging along behind ours, which made it a bit uncomfortable, since everything was explained to her on our time and made us feel like a science experiment at a lab. The china was nice, but some of it broken, which didn't fit the overall look and feel of the restaurant. When we asked for two pots of tea, we got tea bags! It would have been nicer if they had actually made the tea in the back, even from tea bags, and brought it out. Fresh tea would have been even better. We ordered sandwiches and soup, which were nice but not too imaginative. Bread and rolls could have been warmed up before being brought to the table. The concept of the restaurant is quite nice, though and hopefully afternoon tea was the original idea. If the service were a bit less hovering and the food quality and presentation just a bit better, it would be a terrific choice for the price. The decor is nice and springy and airy. The table linens and chairs give the appearance of a quaint tea shop. It is a relaxing environment in which to have a rest or catch up with a good friend.”

“My family visits this Restaurant for a birthday party. The food was good but the waitress waste a glass of Pepsi down the side of my son head. The waitress laughs and apologizes at the same time. She served the drink right over his head. I called to complain, not wanting to make a scene then, only to speak with a manager who challenges my complaint with the waitress who thought it was no big deal. This is a great place to go if you expect a camera to jump out for bloopers.”

“I live in Springfield and have eaten at cafe brio many times. The food is different from the usual chain fare, which is rare here so I appreciate it. The atmosphere is fun, too. The service, however, can be spotty at best. I'm sure the last time I was there, the server was drunk. Nonetheless, Ill go back. .”

“Pizza guy special is the best pizza in Springfield. You can see the toppings and plenty of them. The thin crust is crunchy and excellent. Drive up window huge plus. No other pizza in Springfield matches this one.”

“This is one of the finest restaurants in Springfield Illinois. From the time you walk in the door till you walk out you will have an experience like no other. People come to this restaurant in shorts, blue jeans, business casual, formals and tuxedos. Everyone is welcome and treated the same. The menu is one of kind. The potato encrusted grouper served in a lobster cream sauce is to die for! The specials are one of a kind. Very high quality food. The presentation of the food is priceless and the service is the best. The selections of wines are the best in central Illinois. If you are visiting Springfield this is a must!”

“They always get your order wrong; sometimes even get you something completely different from what you ordered. I asked for something with no meat what so ever, I got steak bits with meat dripping sauce. When I should of had beans, rice and flour tortilla. Also very dark inside and hard to see, only lighting is neon¿s.”

“This joint blows! Took 8 clients out to dinner with a reservation - they forgot the 3 appetizers I ordered, I had to beg for two of my clients to get their beers that the waitress kept forgetting, when the plates of food came out almost every single dinner was missing something from each plate. The final straw was the fact that the purely forgot my dinner! The manager lied through her teeth that there was just a delay but she was dumb enough to add it as a surcharge after the bill was previously printed. But they did not forget it - the waitress was an idiot, the manager was a jerk, and I fear for the health of diners from the kitchens incompetence - avoid this restaurant at all costs - plenty of good food witching a few hundred feet! I even contacted the corporate offices that said they would make it up to me - they ended up doing nothing - wow!”

“We had a lady who was the Manager or Hostess of the steakhouse visited our table and was so very helpful, friendly and made you feel like your business was really appreciated. I wish I had gotten her name but she made the meal so much more enjoyable. The pork chops were wonderful. I do think the salad was a little lacking but the overall experience was great. We eat there often usually once a month and really like the food. The lady made the experience fabulous. I live in Springfield but travel and stay 200 nights a year on the road. ”

“It can be good one time and poor the next. When something is wrong they could care less. I think they are getting very expensive for what you get.”

“Typical steakhouse where you can either cook your own steaks or have them cooked for you. The steaks weren't any better than what you could get at your local chilies or longhorn. The menu is a bit pricey for what you do get. If you like to cook your own (expensive) steak and want a good bonding experience with a group of guys, this is the place for you. Overall the food was good.”

“I have traveled all over this country and still come back to eat at the Golden Dragon. It is the best Szechwan/Mandarin/Chinese food I have ever eaten. The atmosphere is great (even better now that is it all non-smoking), the service is always great and consistent, and the food is fantastic. Me and my wife come here on dates when we want good service and great food. The prices are just right and are great if you just want a nice sit down meal without the hustle and bustle of larger chain restaurants. The couple who own and run the restaurant are always present and add a local flair to the establishment. If you want one-of-a-kind Chinese, you need to eat here at least once. PF Changs has nothing on this place!!!”

“The menus selection is so vast that you would be hard pressed not to find something you liked. Their horse shoes and ponies are great. They make most of their salad dressings and sauces from scratch. They have an excellent bartender who really knows her drinks. The atmosphere is friendly and it is very much a neighborhood family feeling sort of place. It is tough to find your first time, but it is well worth the "off the beaten path" round about trip it takes to get there.”

“We were in-town visiting family for Easter this past weekend and decided to go to Indigo Saturday night - everyone's first time there. Loved it. A positive, unique delicious experience- not just for Springfield, but for any city. They truly have a culinar”
