User Reviews for Atlanta Restaurants« Go back to Dewsbury Travel GuideResearch User Reviews for Atlanta (1-20 of 117)Sushi Huku
“I'm from San Francisco where Japanese food is abundant but even compared to the west I have to say Sushi Huku was my best Japanese food experience. The fish is so fresh and just melts in your mouth. I was visiting Atlanta and read reviews for this place. I was not disappointed. I walked in and asked the chef what he recommended and he carefully and very thoughtfully explained what was fresh and prepared it for me. It was such an intimate experience. I felt this is how Japanese is supposed to be. Waitresses in kimonos served and the place was packed. A lot of greetings in Japanese and I tried their Udon and Tempura because I was super hungry and they were amazing! The broth was very authentic and not the powdery kind. Oh and the best thing is, their fresh Wasabi! Almost all Japanese places use powder cheap form but you can tell how much Sushi Huku values quality by giving even fresh Wasabi. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal, the service, and the chef's sharing. I will make sure Sushi Huku is a must go each time I'm in Georgia. It was definitely, undoubtedly the best.”

“Have been going to this BBQ for over 20 years. Best BBQ, you see people with BMW, Mercedes, trucks & the people that come in usually are return customers. They always remember our order from the time before! I've met the owners & have told them how much we love the place & their employees. They use wood & you smell it when you get out of your car. Best tea in town. It is an old bldg.& we recommend it to others. You do see a lot of people coming in with office orders & people from DeKalb airport come in all the time. I love their ribs & we always get a lb of pork to go. Try it you wont be disappointed.”

“Lunch On Main St. put my husband and me in a good mood after a terrible flight experience. While waiting for a way out of Atlanta, we were wasting time and stopped by the little diner for lunch. I wouldn't call the food anything spectacular, since we just ordered sandwiches, but the service was Southern hospitality at its finest. Our charming and friendly waitress, made us smile from the moment we sat down, and when she discovered we were newly weds on our way home, she insisted on buying us lunch! For two out-of-towers who had admittedly never been to Atlanta or made plans to return, the gesture was significant. Traveling can be frustrating, that's for sure. It's the lunch on Main St. of the world that help you make the best of bad situations. I wish this review and our hearty tip could repay you for the degree of relief you afforded a frustrated and hungry couple.”

“Great family restaurant. Wonderful Southern home cooking. Warm, friendly atmosphere. The owner and her staff never forget your name or your preferences. My wife and I have eaten there at least once a week since it opened.”

“Lunch on Main is that place that everyone looks for when visiting a small town, and College Park is a small town of neighbors. Lunch on main is the place where locals go. Many business people eat there daily because of the varied menu and selections off the Wall, where non menu items are posted daily. People from the airport and Ft McPherson are constantly in attendance. The food is not what some might call fancy, but all items are well prepared, seasoned and often have some special addition that provides a unique flavor. The service is invariably friendly and the owner, Lilly, is a constant warm and friendly presence, overseeing and greeting her friends and customers. Lunch on Main is one of those iconic local places where friends gather for a great meal and value. Thanks.”

“My 5-year-old son and I love Lunch on Main. When I ask him where he would like to go, he says, let's go to Lunch on Main. I don't know many 5-year-olds that chose a meat and 3 place over fast food. The food is great and is a wonderful place to eat a few veggies.”

“When we read the menu for Madras Sri Ganesh Ram Palace, it seemed like just another Indian restaurant. However, when we ordered and the food started to come, and we began to eat, it was a rush of aroma and flavor in our mouths. It was not greasy, and it tasted really good. Most of the food can be requested as being milder, since it comes fairly spicy. The mini is a portion for one, and the regular size is a portion for two-unless you're really hungry. The service was very quick, and the staff is friendly. Also, the restaurant is not too big, not too small, a very comfortable, relaxing atmosphere.”

“During recent business trip this restaurant was recommended by locals and concierge at hotel less than a block away. Stepping over for a midweek early solo dinner, my waiter seemed to take it as his personal responsibility to ensure a great meal. Service was spot on without being intrusive of my contemplations of a busy day at work and lingering over a great meal. The filet was exactly as ordered and without a lot of annoying seasoning to obscure the flavor of the beef. The beef here is wet aged, and while I prefer dry aged beef, this had all of the characteristics of choice meats. Personal ranking would place the meal within the top two or three in the area and within the top twenty to twenty five nationally.”

“We have a regular group that goes there for lunch on Sunday after church - it doesn't hurt that our Church is right across the street. We enjoy the atmosphere very much and keep coming back and they are always accommodating - no matter how large or small our group is. My dad & I have lunch there every Friday and enjoy the family feel.”

“I've been eating at Lunch on Main Street since they opened something like 10 years ago. It's a great place for home-cooked meals and the people who work there are the best. It's like being at home without having to do the dishes. I and my friend ate there most every day till we retired from Ft McPherson and still drive the 40-mile round trip on Mondays for pork chops and veggies.”

“I have been going to Houston's Restaurant for over 25 years and have always been more than pleased! Through the years there have always been favorites entrees, but right now the Thai Beef Noodle Salad is my absolute favorite of the Houston's menu and of any restaurant in Atlanta. Every chance I get I will go there and get this marvelous salad and Houston's signature cheese toast. Go and enjoy! Just one request - with the Perimeter location closed are you considering opening one in north Atlanta again? Could I suggest Alpharetta?”

“My husband and I visit Atlanta every year for the gift mart. Several friends had told us to try, and we were pleased to discover the restaurant was even better than everyone had said. Everyone had said the margaritas were great, and they were; probably the best margaritas I have ever had. Our service was impeccable; the server friendly, knowledgeable, warm and upbeat. She made great suggestions without ever being pushy and answered all of our questions with ease. The food was outstanding. We shared the calamari, which was some of the best I have ever had. I had the perfectly cooked halibut (incredible!), and my husband had the tenderloin medallions, which were to die for! We shared the chocolate mousse for dessert, and let me tell you, if that does not satisfy your chocolate craving, I am not sure what will! All in all, a wonderful dining experience that we are excited to repeat next time we are in Atlanta!”

“I've been there last week-end on Friday. It was my buddy's birthday, and all I can say is GREAT! It was nothing bad about that place! It was packed! They had a DJ, our server was great, our food took a minute (which was understandable), but we didn't care that much, since we were getting plenty of margaritas. I live in Dallas, but I will definitely come back. This place ROCKS!”

“My husband and I visit Atlanta frequently, but only just ventured out to Agave the other night. We'd heard great things and were thrilled to find the restaurant exceeded our already high expectations. Over all the vibe is warm and friendly. We were greeted at the door by a welcoming, smiling face, leaving us feeling already at home. Our server was incredibly friendly and unbelievably helpful. She guided us through the menu, as Southwestern food is new to us. She answered all of our questions patiently and thoroughly. Her recommendations were spot on for everything from margaritas (which, incidentally, were amazing), all the way through dessert. The food blew us away. My husband, who's a big eater was more than satisfied with the Pork Shank and the Shrimp dish was one of the best meals I've had in a while. And, all for a surprisingly reasonable price. All in all, this was one of the best dining experiences we've ever had. We've found a new favorite destination and can't wait to return! Don't miss this fantastic restaurant! Definitely one of Atlanta's hot spots.”

“My husband and I have been eating Mrs. Winners fried chicken for years and have always enjoyed it. About two months ago we went to Mrs. Winners in Cartersville, Georgia - where we always go. The fried chicken was not good. It was almost like they had changed the recipe. The gravy even had a different taste to it. Needless to say we said we would not go back there again. Well recently we decided to give it one more chance. It was worse than it was a couple of months ago. We were very disappointed. We also had this same experience at the location in Canton, Georgia. We really miss the old Mrs. Winners.”

“The price is outrageous for the quality of food. The steaks tasted burnt. The fried lobster tail you could have at any beach restaurant for half the price, and the sides you could get at a Piccadilly. It did not taste awful, but for 50 dollars its a steak, I want something that I can't get at Longorn. Which the steaks at Longhorn taste better than what I had here.”

“Local, great neighborhood place. If you love true, authentic Mediterranean food at great prices, go here. It is so good, so fresh and so right. The hummus is great who cares if it is romantic. Eat great food, sip some wine and take home some great hummus, olives, and pop a bottle of your best and have the right partner and there is your romance. If you want to sit, nuzzle, look at crystal, pay for overpriced bad food, but just to say, I went there, then go to one of the many overpriced, trendy people watching chains in Atlanta, but if you want real hummus, real falafel, go here. The food rocks.”

“Restaurant very small, music way too loud causing patrons to have to yell to be heard over it. Overpriced breakfast and sandwich joint with the worst menu I've ever seen. I mean, they didn't even have a decent salad.”

“We had a terrible winter experience there. I called ahead and asked for a quiet table, but was put in a separate room, by a cold window, near a loud party of 8. It was so dark we could not read our menu and had to ask so many questions and then could not see our food, but figured this was the best the place had for us. It was only until going out I realized there was a large bright room, only halfway full, where people could actually see the menu, and these patrons were seated spaced from each other. My crabcake was too sweet on the bottom not from the crab but from the tiny bottom layer of fried green tomato with some sort of sweet sauce, like pickle relish, which overshadowed the crab. My husband's pork chop was "a pork chop" like usual, about all he could say. He hated eating in the dark but his worst experience was asking for a beer, naming several: "We sold the last Heinekin last night. No, we don't have an Amstel Lite, etc." It went on and on, while the waiter told about little breweries that my husband had never heard of. My wine was just fine. But we were cold. It was January and we couldn't get out of there fast enough. We thought! Actually it is mid town so we were unable to get a taxi back to the Ritz Buckhead and had to wait over an hour until one finally dropped someone off and we grabbed it. Staff seemed unconcerned about our unhappiness with the cold, the dark, the food, and lack of their help in getting a taxi. As I understand it, the wife of the owner was standing there as "greeter" while we waited miserably for a taxi. I was disappointed that the Ritz Buckhead recommended that place. By the way, my husband and I are usually very pleased eating out, which we do often, especially when traveling.”

“The biscuit was old looking or cooked to long. I ask for another one and it look like the first one. When I mentioned I did not want that one either I was told all of them looked the same. They didn't even go to see if they had one just stood there telling me the same thing. I pay for my meals and expect to get good service.”

“We visited Eno on a late Saturday evening. We were allowed to sit outside which was nice, but this was probably a mistake considering the loud cars, music blaring, and beggars walking by our table yelling at my husband. I ordered the scallops which one would think would be a great selection. The scallops were filled with grit so badly that I had to send the meal back. My husband was completely finished by the time I got a mushroom tart which was okay. Not one person in the restaurant ever apologized. Grit is unforgivable, and it was just shocking to me that no one seemed surprised by it. We waited too long for our food and then to get that meal was awful. We even had to wait a long time for a bowl of olives- ridiculous. Eno thinks highly of itself but I just wish that they would think of their customers and wash their seafood properly. The staff thinks highly of itself but I just wish that they would think of their customers and wash their seafood properly. Also, the only compensation was the plate that got sent back- no dessert, coffee, or even an after dinner drink would have been nice.”

“We have been dedicated to Houstons for over 25 years now. We went 5/17/08 and we were very disappointed. The service was wonderful, however our food wasn't. My salad was very small and they obviously changed their signature mustard-honey dressing. It was very bland. My husband's burger was very disappointing as well. We probably will not return anytime soon. It was our FAVORITE restaurant and we always looked forward to a special occasion to visit. I used to always recommend Houston's to everyone, now I have my doubts.”

“Awful business dinner! I reserved the private wine cellar for a business meeting, don't be fooled, the room is anything but private. The room is located just next to the waiters station. Waiters stand around talking and laughing, the bussers empty plates there, loud silverware and plates banging right next to you. There is no privacy, the room is separated from the dining room by a couple feet. The reservations woman is rude and unprofessional. Our waiter was friendly, but certainly not respectful of the fact that we were conducting a meeting. The food was so-so, not super authentic southern, but fairly tasty. The restaurant shows its age and is need of renovation. All in all I would never go back and never recommend it to anyone other than perhaps families or budget travelers looking for an average, moderate priced dinner in the convention district.”

“Being the curious person I am. My husband and I went there this past weekend. The Restaurant opened at 5 and we got there at 430. If you were just driving down the road this probably wouldn't be a place that would make you say "Hey let's eat there". The outside isn't very attractive but I have found these are the best restaurants! Very soon other cars started filling the parking lot. A good sign. Once inside the restaurant is very dated. Goes with the theme. Didnt bother us a bit. Screams old school Italian. When we sat down the server brought us a small tray of olives and fresh garlic. Did I say garlic" bread. I ordered the shrimp. It was delicious! My husband has the Pesto chicken. Also a great choice. This is not an olive garden franchise but a true Italian restaurant. I would recommend it to anyone who appreciates good food. We did not order wine or side salads so the bill could get pricey if you like all the extras. Honestly. Its worth the splurge and we will be going back.”

“Never think you can have it your way, at Mrs. Winners. Just ask for a splash of gravy on their dry steak biscuit, you know like you'd want Ketchup and mustard on a hamburger and you'll get your head bit off. But that's ok, it's so long Mrs. Winners. Maybe they'll close them all, like they did the one in Roswell.”

“My wife and I are on a cross-country driving trip and she picked Violette for our dinner in Atlanta. We are both so glad that she did. The premises are very nice, a bit quirky (the original owner actually built the place himself). But a comfortable, interesting yet intimate environment. Service was attentive but a bit inexperienced. The food was superb, wonderful fresh ingredients, beautifully presented, exquisitely prepared and seasoned. One thing that took us a bit aback is that unlike most upscale French restaurants, the servings are very generous. In no way did this compromise quality, everything was superb. We split the salmon rillette appetizer and it was plenty for both of us. Likewise, an Alsacian salad split between two was a generous serving for both of us. My wife had the salmon filet; I had the fruit de mer in puff pastry. My wife raved about her entree and mine was spectacularly good (and big enough for two).”

“I had a great meal here with some co-workers while I was in town from Phila. The food was awesome and the prices were reasonable. We enjoyed sushi, choose your own bowl (angus beef, broth style, with soba noodles), and the bbq mahi mahi with choice of noodles or rice. We chose brown rice which was a large serving with vegetables. I will be back next time I am in town.”

“This was a terrible disappointment. Tight spaces make wheelchair access almost impossible and embarrassing. We had to ask for ice in our water and straws. Bill was excessive, servings small. “I had read great things about this restaurant. Boy was I lied to. The atmosphere is mediocre. I walked in and was not greeted and had to hunt down the staff who were all talking amongst themselves downstairs. The bread was cold and the service was spotty at best. The main course was tasty but should have come with 5 plates for the price I paid. I was in a party of 3 and needed the check split up. This didn't seem to be a problem for the waiter but was obviously one since there was a 20 percent gratuity added to each check for the trouble. This is no place to go unless you are stuck Downtown with a business expense account.”

“The 'spicy' chicken was not spicy. The cooking oil was WAY over due for a changing and the chicken tasted like it. I had not bought anything from Mrs. Winners for a LONG time, now I know why. “One of the better dining experiences. When I went, the staff was all dressed like monks. Our server even chanted the specials in tune with the live classical music. The "monk" had a great sense of humor and after recanting a long list of possible desserts, I asked if there was going to be a test on what he had told us. He replied that there would be no tests on the dessert menu, only confessions. This place is only about 1 block from the Fox Theater where we followed a wonderful dinner with a performance of Cats.”

“Today is Sunday February 3, 2008. I invited another couple out for dinner and went to our Golden Corral. Our friends wanted steak. When arriving no steak was done, said it would be at least 15 minutes. We ordered done. During this time the steak was taken up in med. done and rare. Finally when we did get one it was black and crispy. My friends had to get up and go ask for tea, and when she came to the table to pour mine most of it was in my shoe. Because of them cutting up from table to table. I use to eat at this restaurant every day on the senior special. But the food got so bad until all the seniors have changed to Ryans. If they could send someone down here to talk to all of the seniors at Ryans they would all tell you the same thing? At one time we wandered what happen to all of Golden Corrals customers and we went to Ryans and there they were. But when we went in they gave us 8 extra plates, out of the 8 six of them were dirty. The waitress said all he does is shoot the spray on them and let them go. I had noticed when we went in they always check the plates before they give them to you and sometimes throws one or two under the counter. But tonight was my last night to ever step another foot in that place. But it is ashamed to have a restaurant within a mile of your home and have to go all the way across town and out by the mall to eat. For we eat out everyday. I have even thought about reporting them to the health office, but maybe some people can't go all the way across town. But I am sure they would really be interested in what is going on out there. Just spaying off dishes does not clean the germs. Since I was told that I want no part of their food or dishes. I am so sorry to be complaining because I am not one to complain, but at least if you could do something it would help the few that still eat there. It really needs some management. You can even talk to the waitresses and they will tell you the same. Their business has dropped off to nothing. Could you please check on it? For if it is left running like it is it would be better off closed. May save someone some health problems. As I said I am very sorry but it uses to be a good place to eat and take your family but no more.”

“This restaurant has the worst drive-thru in Atlanta. They have consistently given me food prepared contrary to my stated request. “I have been eating at the varsity for 50 years. I have eaten at the finer ATL restaurants and use to would pick the varsity over any or them. No more. They have changed their way of doing the buns and it is not original any more. I use to love the chili cheese burgers and chili cheese dogs (pimento cheese) but when I was their Monday, the buns on both were so soft they were almost soggy. What happened to the original way of doing they in the machine that made them crisp? That was what made the varsity so original. Why change the trade mark? Please go back to the old way of doing things. I can get a chili cheese burger most any place but I want the old good varsity chili cheese burgers and dogs.”

“Another worry I had been the service, since that seemed to be the number 2 complaint for Atlanta Fish Market. Well, no problems here. We were taken care of at timely intervals and treated very well. The food was definitely not a worry, and I am happy to report the food was very good! We had the fried calamari and Shrimp pot stickers for appetizers, the shared Greek salad and the main lobster baked with deviled crab stuffing. We even brought our own bottle of wine since we are very picky and they charge $10 for a corking fee. I will definitely eat there again!”

“The best Greek food ever. The meat, sauce, potatoes, the deserts all fabulous. My family has been going to this restaurant for 20 years. We Native Atlantes now living in Athens, GA but we still make a trip down as often as we can. The dining experience is always consistent. Its never a hit or miss place to eat! Always good always hot and always good service. We love the Greek music too. The best news is they have finally opened a second location on Lawrenceville hwy. Yeah.”
