“Great decor, romantic, wouldn't recommend it, to pricey.”

“I've been vacationing in Kauai for the past 12 years, and have eaten at the Beach House at least once on every visit. Always had great food, good service and a wonderful view. However, this time my visit (March 2009) was not happy: I was violently ill all night after returning home from the restaurant. Food poisoning? Sure felt like it to me. But for me the sad thing was not that this happened - sometimes these events are just part of life.”

“The restaurant has a strange layout and can be noisy. We came on a Sunday and had the buffet. I thought the shrimp tempura was very good. There was a distinct lack of typical Chinese dishes like Lo Mein or any mixed meat and vegetable dish. The kids buffet price was an excellent value, but the adults, not a good value unless you are a big volume eater. We sat in one of the tea rooms on the floor straw mats which was very quaint. Courteous service. Overall a decent choice.”

“Watching the chickens walk around was half the fun. They assured us they don't harvest then for items on the menu. A great place.”

“Our favorite restaurant in the world -- seriously. We visit it at least twice every visit we make to Kauai. The atmosphere is a little kitschy, but it's cute. The wait staff are the owners. Food is always wonderful. We love this place.”

“I had their seafood omelet and it was delicious. My son had their banana pancakes and when he was full I ate the rest of them and they were so sinful they moved me to tears. They have inside and outside dining that is very comfortable. This restaurant is in the Coconut Marketplace in Kapa'a.”

“Beastly. Poor food, poor service. I am writing this as a gesture of humanity.”

“The beach house came highly recommended by our close friends who eat there a lot. My husband made a reservation 4 weeks in advance and told them it was our anniversary to ensure a nice table. When we got there, we had to wait 15 minutes for our table and then we were seated right in front of a wall so we could not see the sunset at all! We begged the hostess to move us, which she did but that caused another problem. Our waiter wasn't notified of our move. We sat at our table and waited over 20 minutes before we finally were able to order a drink (thankfully the bus boy was on top of it so we had bread and water). Our waiter was a giant sweetheart, but we could tell he was not happy there. My husband had the Ahi, which was fabulous. I, unfortunately, ordered the Ono. I have been sick ever since (I actually remember getting a funky bite that tasted like rotten fish)! (Some friends of ours ate there the night before and were also poisoned by the Ono.) I would go here again simply for the beautiful sunset, but maybe Ill just have a cocktail).”

“What a find! An absolute treat. The food was cooked to perfection. The mango fish was superb. The red curry (shrimp & long bean special) was fantastic. Thank you to Kauai revealed. We couldn't have found it and probably wouldn't have tried it with out their recommendation, but are oh so glad we did. The restaurant is small, but so what, the food is excellent. The service was probably among the best we had on the island. If you are on Kauai or going to visit soon, get there as fast as you can!”

“The blueberry pancakes were terrific and the Don Concoction was delicious! You know a place is good when all the locals are eating there!”

“My wife and I have dined at the beach house at least once each year (except when they were closed after iniki) for the past 25 years. Last night was a disappointment. Even though we had reservations and arrived a few minutes early, we had to wait for our table. The staff members at the reception desk were very unfriendly. Our table was crowded into a corner far from the windows and had very little view. Our waiter was very slow, possibly too busy with too many tables. After he brought a bottle of white wine, he asked if we wanted an ice bucket. Of course we wanted an ice bucket; there was a long wait between courses and the main dish was served at room temperature. Clearly, they are so busy that they don't have to care. When we canceled our reservation for the coming week, they did not even ask why.”

“This was, unfortunately, the worst place we ate on our most recent three week visit to Kauai, which we have visited nearly a dozen times. The food was overly salty, relatively tasteless, and not very well prepared. It was also somewhat expensive considering the quality. The wait staff was very nice and the drinks were fine. A better Mexican restaurant, Mi Casita in Koloa near that horrible pizza place, has unfortunately closed, leaving a Mix-gap on the island.”

“In the 20 some years that my wife and I have visited the islands and dined at the Beach House this was an all time low! The service was fair, the food okay and the reception desk cold and unresponsive. They have a wonderful location which lets them get away with such lack of detail but beware there's always another tsunami on the horizon and other great restaurants to explore. ”

“Outstanding flavors. The green chili risotto was superb. Large servings leaves you with leftovers. A little bit challenging to find but a nice alternative the big hotel restaurants.”

“This is a hidden treasure. We visit at least once while vacationing on Kauai every year. The food is not only the best Mexican food on Kauai it might be the best I've had anywhere. Try the Seafood Burrito if you have a place to keep the half you can't finish in one sitting.”

“I am from New Jersey and I had never eaten local Hawaiian food before. The folks at Jack Harter helicopter tours said it was great. They were right! I had Saimin and it was awesome. I wish I could have it delivered to New Jersey. Take a tip from me, eat where the locals eat, you will be happy you did! Tip Top is the best!”

“Ono means good in Hawaiian and that's an apt description of the food at this local's favorite. Ono's has arguably the best breakfast on Kauai. The pancakes are delicious, but my personal favorite is Eggs Veggie. This is a vegetarian version of eggs Benedict: soft boiled eggs served on English muffins with fresh sauteed vegetables and wonderful hollandaise sauce. Served with a slice of fresh papaya. We travel to Kauai yearly and I look forward to eggs veggie as one of the highlights of my trip. Get there before 9:00 or you will probably have to wait for a table. Their kitchen is small and gets slammed when they are busy and if it is a hot day be sure to get a seat by a window-no AC!”

“Fabulous breakfasts! Try the cheesy eggs! The pancakes are great, too. This is a favorite with locals because the food is plentiful and not expensive. Service is responsive although the tiny kitchen gets a little backed up when it's full as it often is. The dining room has been remodeled over the years, but looks worn.”

“Imagine dining in a rain forest on wonderful fish served on a bed of silver noodles and fresh vegetables with pot stickers to die for! Cafe Coco is a unique dining experience. Dining tables are outside under a canopy in a lovely, romantic garden setting. The food is excellent and the menu is different every night. The service may be slow at times, but I highly recommend this restaurant.”

“We've been to the "best little", "out of the ordinary" restaurants all across the use. We celebrate at our traditional "once a year" places for special occasions. We've managed and owned a number of restaurants in Austin, TX and throughout the front range of Colorado. Good food, good service, and good atmosphere are something we enjoy getting away for every once in a while, especially having three kids all under five. The Hanalei gourmet is our top, "numerous undo", restaurant that we have ever been to. The atmosphere, food, service, scenery, music, weather, historic building, geckos, beach, waterfalls, mountains, fragrant smell, hectare the best overall combination to be had! Unfortunately, we have never had the opportunity to take our kids there. But we did log onto this site after discussing a Hawaiian vacation and figuring out all of the places we wanted to take our kids to. It's a family, singles, romantic, dropping' in, comfortable environment. I highly recommend it to anyone going to the island of Kauai! "Big Tim" is a great host and obviously loves his business. It shows in every area. We can't wait to get back.”

“This is where I learned to eat rice at breakfast back in 1965, when I was working for the Pacific Missile Range. Ate there many times, and have been there sense. Going to Kauai next month, and will return again!”

“One Burger was recommended to us by one of the locals we met at our resort. A very small and easy to miss burger stand on the side of the highway in Anahola. The burgers are simple, made with fresh ingredients and your choice of Hawaiian 'style'. The patties aren't huge but the hamburgers are made the old fashioned way. Delicious! (And a thousand times better than the excuse for burgers we were served at Bubba's burger's!). Stop on your way up to the north shore and take your food to go. Or relax on the patio seating and enjoy.”

“Nice View, Dangerous Food: Read great reviews, so booked two weeks in advance for our first night. What a disaster - My husband got food poisoning from the Asian Duck. Flew from the East coast and spent thousands of dollars on air and hotel - where we spent most of our vacation. Had to make a trip to Wilcox hospital where they confirmed food poisoning. It took a week to get over it. The marketing manager at the hotel said he would call the Beach House. We never heard a thing. I also wrote when we got home; no response to the email. Food safety should be a restaurant's top priority. DO NOT risk your vacation ”

“My husband and I visited Tomcats during our honeymoon in 2004. We loved this charming little restaurant SO MUCH we opted to go back on our last night in Kauai. What a lovely place. Eating at this restaurant allows you to step outside the realm of "tourist" and see Hawaii as an islander. Well, probably as closely as we can ever see it without actually moving there. Although the food is relatively similar to our meals on the "mainland"; the atmosphere and aloha spirit is truly something to experience. It was amazing place and I'm looking forward to visiting again. ”

“This was a chance find for us. We had intended to eat at Roy's but wanted something a little more unique. Cafe di Amici filled the bill. Northern Italian menu with a very interesting Hawaiian or international mix. We were able to sit on the Lanai, only tables for 2, where it is very intimate. Service was prompt and attentive. The menu is very extensive. We had fresh tomatoes with pesto and mozzarella and sauteed mushrooms as appetizers. Entrees, tiger prawns in lobster sauce and classic fettuccini alfredo, both very good.”

“My wife and I ate here at this restaurant our first day in Kauai and on our last. The service was wonderful, the food was divine and the atmosphere amazing. The price, HEY. It's Hawai'i. Nothing is cheap. It was worth it.”

“Of course you can't beat the view. Problem is if you get a front table the heat from the beautiful setting sun is very uncomfortable. I would recommend asking for a raised booth. you do have people in front of you but you are slightly higher and much more confortable. Prices are high but its worth it.”

“First of all the variety and quality of the food was excellent. Everyone was super friendly. The service also was excellent. You were given more than enough, if you had a fridge and microwave you had lunch for the next day! ”

“I could write a big ole' review on how great EVERYTHING was but I don't have time. It was so good after the 1st visit we decided to cancel other reservations and go back even as we were leaving. When we we got back to our hotel from the 1st visit there was a meassage from THE BEACH HOUSE thanking us for visiting and hoped everything was ok and if not to call them bacK!!!?? Needless to say we went back and it was the same exact experience all over again! AWESOME! ”

“Your basic pizza and sandwich menu (at least at lunch). The pork sandwiches were excellent. Basic napkins-on-formica table atmosphore, but on a nice Kauai afternoon in March, the warm breeze wafting in through the open window were all the atmosphere needed, which was good, as the wait staff was a bit overworked. Then again, you're on vacation in Hawaii, what's the rush?”

“Small, crowded and noisy, but if you can get by that it's a great place! If you don't care too much about having thoughtful conversation and instead would like to absorb a fun atmosphere with lots of locals this it for you. The second night we went there a local band played Hawaiian music and the locals got up to do impromptu hula--truly magnificent and genuine! Mediterranean pasta was a bit bland, but otherwise very tasty, large portions of the best food we had on the North Shore. Pineapple aioli sauce is to die for.”
