“A wonderful local restaurant for a meal that is full of taste explosions. The rib eye and the pork chops to do die for. And don't leave out the Volcano desert. The best eruption of all.”

“This place totally stinks! I had to pay $3.50 for a glass of water. Do not ever go there again.”

“I had a coupon! When I got there we should have left after looking at menu! We got the seafood combo, it had some shrimps, some rubbery calamari and some fishy stuff. If you like sushi, you may have liked it. A bowl of stuck together rice and 3 drinks bill was OK with tip. This was bad enough but then they billed my credit card twice for same meal. Don't go there.”

“My friend & I was in Honolulu for a week. We were at angles every day. My best time ever was when we were there on st. pats day. A good person for the bar. He treated us like we were all friends.”

“This lunch buffet for me and my 4 year old daughter was $20! And the food was horrible. I actually had to question myself about the type of meat they were using in their food. My daughter ate white rice. That's it. It is not very child friendly, and the food was disgusting and it was way too much money! Don't waste your time or money.”

“The ice cream was good, but the service and value were not. We got 2 kiddie scoops and 3 adult scoops (5 people in our party) - it came out to $23. The scoops were tiny. I would not go there again. The server was not friendly and was making me feel rushed. Lappert's has good ice cream, but Lappert's at the Hilton Hawaiian Village is not worth it.”

“Yagura is excellent I go there every week. My favorites are the Nabeyaki Udon and chicken Katsu curry. Limited parking, good service not fancy but good for casual lunches and dinners.”

“The food came out cold. The food was not close to being Mexican food. I have eaten at many Mexican food places but today was a big disappointment. The rice was not Mexican rice. The beans were without any juice and the refried beans were thick and had no water. The chips and salsa were poor in quality. The use of yellow tortillas for chips not a good idea. The salsa was like eating tomato sauce; no jalapeno at all. The salsa is very mild. The taco shells had to have been purchased at SAM's zero flavor. Overall I would give this place a C+-at least they try to cook Mexican food but I would not visit again.”

“Staff was super friendly in helping to direct us back to our hotel. Staff was outgoing and energetic. Store was brightly lit and clean. Parking was easy to find. Store decorations really appealed to the kids. Very inviting for families. Prices were reasonable and product tasted great! There were both no sugar added and nondairy options available as well as hand-scooped yogurt that you could swear tasted just like regular ice cream! plus, there's a Mrs. Fields cookies at the same location.”

“This place is incredibly bad. The restaurant itself looks nice but the service is horrible. Everything took forever. We never managed to get enough silverware or even drinks. Despite our efforts to clearly relay our order to the continually confused waitress, our order came out wrong. The food itself wasn't worth the wait. Their salsa is gross; it tastes more like spicy spaghetti sauce. Their rice is okay but they honestly need to learn how to sauté some vegetables because everything came out raw. And they don't have a children's menu. or at least that's what they told us. Who knows? While it only took us about 20 minutes to eat, we spent over 2 hours there waiting. The place was empty; we were to only people there. I just don't understand. I will never, ever go there again.”

“Good location, close to beach which is not as busy as others. Only got clean towels each day but did not get the room cleaned and made each day. construction was only during the day, but still noticeable. Overall good experience, would stay again.”

“We have host our extended Hawaiian family of 15 at The Ocean House for the last 3 years at the start of the Christmas season. We will be hosting it again the week before Christmas this year (2008) The food & service is all under the watchful command of the best GM in Hawaii. His restaurant is friendly, fun and beautiful a perfect place to kick of the Christmas Holidays and spirit. We can't wait to get back for another great meal.”

“I loved Byron's Drive In while I lived in Hawaii. The food is served in large portions and is always decent. I have heard some negative things in the past however, I think the fact they've been open for many years says they are a great restaurants. It's open 24-7 and located right outside the airport. Try my personal fav. the Beef Stew Platter!”

“Not a traveler, local but had to rave. Ordered catered food in 2006 for son's graduation after taste-testing from many different restaurants. Extensive catering menu, worked within our budget, delivered even after normal hours and included all kinds of extras. Guests loved the food and kept asking where we catered from. Loved the Shrimp Tempura (light, crispy, not oily), Panko Furikake encrusted mahi, 24-hour salad and Fried Calamari. Thought they were reasonable and best of all, food was hot and fresh! The best!”

“If you like very fresh shrimp, fish, etc. This is the place totally no muss, no fuss found it on the way to North Shore, ended up eating there at least once a day. Was the last place we ate before going home, drove from Waikiki just for our last meal at AHI.”
Thanks for the valuable feedback you provided to other MYTravelGuide members. Your vote will be counted and will soon appear on the review page. Waikiki Marina Resort
“Waikiki Marina Resort is a hotel inside the Ilikai hotel. The Ilikai is going through a Reno and as a result, only 2 of 4 elevators were servicing the 35 floor building. Guests at the Waikiki Marina Resort do not receive housekeeping service, only fresh towels. If you plan to rent a car, it costs $25 a night to park. In addition, all the restaurants were closed as part of the Reno. Fortunately, this is Waikiki and there are quality restaurants everywhere! Hotel rooms were spacious and well equipped with stove, fridge, microwave, plate ware and cutlery.”

“Since reopening under new owners, the Crouching Lion is proving to be the place to stop! The inn underwent extensive renovations and the place looks amazing! The view of the ocean is spectacular! The owners do a great job of making everyone feel welcome. The food is fantastic and the staff is courteous and inviting!”

“Very nice, large hotel room with full kitchen. Newly remodeled with granite countertops, bathroom and floors. Located directly on the beach. This hotel was much nicer than the rooms at the Turtle Bay Resort by Hilton. We drove around forever trying to find it under the Marina name.”

“This place was just ok. They gave large portions, but the food was ordinary. They were chintzy with the cheese on our nachos, and the service was very slow. I made the mistake of ordering coffee after dinner. It was lukewarm, and they acted like I had asked for something outrageous when I asked for a spoon to stir in the sugar. The chairs were uncomfortable.”

“Considering that they have a lot of customers, and the majority of the food needs to be already prepared when they open. I would say that they do a good job. The quality was as good as I expected. I was also impressed by the manager on duty on Wed. She answered my question politely and accurately. I will be a repeat customer.”

“Strike the previous review. There are two Big Kahuna's the one near the airport is excellent. The one Downtown Honolulu is the joke. It's a crime that they have the same name. The Suma pizza is excellent. Garlic Cheese balls appear popular as well. Shakes are great. Pop is unlimited. Eat in or take out. Lots to choose from. My humblest apologies for the confusion.”

“I was sorry to hear people didn't get Aloha here as it is my favorite place to eat. I eat here every week and have always had excellent service, great food, and left very happy. I am guessing someone got them on a very rare off night. I love Pah Kes. Its the best Chinese on island. Thank God it's down the street.”

“This restaurant is gross! The kitchen workers don't always wear gloves when they are handling the food in the back kitchen. After the restaurant is closed, they let employees pick at the remaining buffet, then they store the food to be used for the next day. If you hold the glass to the light you can see that they don't use soap to wash it, just hot water. The restaurant is always filled with local families with their kids, and the tables are so close together that you are probably sitting 3 feet away from another family eating their food. It's a big Asian Chuck E Cheese, minus the games.”

“We were locals and went because we had heard it was a nice place. The service was poor, it was more than 20 minutes before anyone came to our table to even so much as ask us if we wanted anything and another 10 to take our order. Then if we tried to get a refill on beverages it was harder than stopping a runaway train. This was in the day when smoking was allowed in restaurants and we had asked for non smoking and were placed no further way than ten feet from a party of ten. When we said something about smoking they said that we were are the beginning of the non smoking section. There were no more tables available. I will never go back there again and I figure all I can do is encourage others to never go there as well.”

“I was in Waikiki for 6 weeks & my night at Chart House was one of my best dining experiences. The food & service were wonderful. The open air & views of the harbor (particularly at sunset when I was there) were lovely. I was there with my toddler & wishing my husband was with us because it was romantic, too. They had live music that was not overpowering. They didn't have a lot of options for children, but they were truly accommodating in terms of where we sat & being attentive to my daughter's needs, too. It was a bit on the pricey side, but well within what you'd expect for that kind of dining experience in Waikiki.”

“Dingy, outdated interior and rude, lazy wait staff. There are plenty of other places to enjoy a beautiful view in Waikiki. Skip the Shorebird and keep walking.”

“Walking into this cozy little restaurant feels like you are walking into Mr. Miyagi's backyard. Then it hits you; the smell of delectably roasting garlic. My wife and I were greeted by the friendly staff and seated in the Bonsai Garden. After enjoying an appetizer of sizzling mushrooms, we ordered the filet and our knowledgeable waiter paired it with a delightfully dry Merlot. Our entrees arrived on a traditional 500 degree hot rock: sizzling and tasty. Everything here has garlic in it, I especially recommend the bleu cheese covered roasted garlic. Even dessert is a light garlic sorbet with garlic sauce and despite how it sounds is surprisingly delicious. If you want a cozy atmosphere with out-of-this world food, and you love garlic, this place MUST be added to your itinerary.”

“When I lived in Waikiki for a few months I liked this place so much it was my "local". Nobody has mentioned one of its specialties: tequila. They have 30 different ones including a spicy one they make from scratch. I always get the spicy margarita. The mango or pineapple salsa (the season determines which fruit they use) is memorable - perfectly spicy and sweet. A few of the burritos are boring and dry though. The prices are very reasonable for Waikiki. One order of fajitas is plenty of food for two people. You can sit inside or outside they have tiki torches at night on the small lanai. Close to the beach. Parking is difficult - your best bet is to park towards Ala Wai Blvd. and walk. The service is great and usually friendly - most of the staff has worked there for more than 10 years. To the person who complained about the avocado "seed": that is to prevent the guacamole from turning brown - hardly an indicator of bad service. One complaint - you have to pay for chips and salsa. I hate penny-pinching like that.”

“Been here twice. Food took too long both visits - considering that the restaurant was nearly empty both times! Food was decent, probably because you are starving by the time you get it. Had to flag down the server just to refill our drinks. Would not return and definitely would not recommend.”

“The portions are big and the prices are cheap. This is a fast food diner that provides food that has been out on a warmer all day. Lot of grease but if you are more for quantity instead of quality, then this may be down your lane. The problem with this fast food diner is they offer very poor customer service. If you are dissatisfied with your meal or it takes too long to receive your food, there are no refunds. The owner will not allow you to order another meal at a lower price either. If the owner of the diner is dissatisfied with the customers complaint, she will tell you not to come back to her diner anymore. Definitely bad service!”

“Everyone we took there liked the food. So far all the dishes we had tried were really tasty. We were glad when a neighbor told us of this Chinese restaurant. Had been disappointed in all the ones we had tried in the Leeward side. The owner is always very warm and the food handlers are nice and friendly unlike most similar. A few dishes were on the small side but nevertheless, always tasty!”

“I seriously enjoyed that home style open feeling of a drive inn. Ive just moved to Oahu from Washington & was passing by so I thought Id stop in and to my surprise being extremely hungry I ordered their mushroom chicken . I just loved it! I know the appearance wasnt a high end deal, but the service and smiles was very awesome - loved it! I have to say not high priced but just right, great smiles and giggles not here's your food now go eat it attitude, it was a busy little drive inn but worth the wait to sit outside under the umbrella and chit chat.”
