User Reviews for Oahu Restaurants« Go back to Somerset RestaurantsResearch User Reviews for Oahu (21-40 of 140)Waikiki Marina Resort
“Very nice, large hotel room with full kitchen. Newly remodeled with granite countertops, bathroom and floors. Located directly on the beach. This hotel was much nicer than the rooms at the Turtle Bay Resort by Hilton. We drove around forever trying to find it under the Marina name.”

“Just reopened under new management. Bar opened 7/2, everything was great! This owner should do well.”

“This place was just ok. They gave large portions, but the food was ordinary. They were chintzy with the cheese on our nachos, and the service was very slow. I made the mistake of ordering coffee after dinner. It was lukewarm, and they acted like I had asked for something outrageous when I asked for a spoon to stir in the sugar. The chairs were uncomfortable.”

“Excellent for the value. Large suite size and with a full kitchen is helpful. Very cheerful and helpful staff. Have top walk a little to get to restaurants or cafe but they are nearby. Valet parking is good and convenient.”

“Food is excellent, but service is slow. If you have the time, the wait is well worth it. Could use a little more staff during peak hours, but did I say the food is excellent and worth the wait!”

“Considering that they have a lot of customers, and the majority of the food needs to be already prepared when they open. I would say that they do a good job. The quality was as good as I expected. I was also impressed by the manager on duty on Wed. She answered my question politely and accurately. I will be a repeat customer.”

“Strike the previous review. There are two Big Kahuna's the one near the airport is excellent. The one Downtown Honolulu is the joke. It's a crime that they have the same name. The Suma pizza is excellent. Garlic Cheese balls appear popular as well. Shakes are great. Pop is unlimited. Eat in or take out. Lots to choose from. My humblest apologies for the confusion.”

“I was sorry to hear people didn't get Aloha here as it is my favorite place to eat. I eat here every week and have always had excellent service, great food, and left very happy. I am guessing someone got them on a very rare off night. I love Pah Kes. Its the best Chinese on island. Thank God it's down the street.”

“This restaurant is gross! The kitchen workers don't always wear gloves when they are handling the food in the back kitchen. After the restaurant is closed, they let employees pick at the remaining buffet, then they store the food to be used for the next day. If you hold the glass to the light you can see that they don't use soap to wash it, just hot water. The restaurant is always filled with local families with their kids, and the tables are so close together that you are probably sitting 3 feet away from another family eating their food. It's a big Asian Chuck E Cheese, minus the games.”

“We were locals and went because we had heard it was a nice place. The service was poor, it was more than 20 minutes before anyone came to our table to even so much as ask us if we wanted anything and another 10 to take our order. Then if we tried to get a refill on beverages it was harder than stopping a runaway train. This was in the day when smoking was allowed in restaurants and we had asked for non smoking and were placed no further way than ten feet from a party of ten. When we said something about smoking they said that we were are the beginning of the non smoking section. There were no more tables available. I will never go back there again and I figure all I can do is encourage others to never go there as well.”

“I was in Waikiki for 6 weeks & my night at Chart House was one of my best dining experiences. The food & service were wonderful. The open air & views of the harbor (particularly at sunset when I was there) were lovely. I was there with my toddler & wishing my husband was with us because it was romantic, too. They had live music that was not overpowering. They didn't have a lot of options for children, but they were truly accommodating in terms of where we sat & being attentive to my daughter's needs, too. It was a bit on the pricey side, but well within what you'd expect for that kind of dining experience in Waikiki.”

“Dingy, outdated interior and rude, lazy wait staff. There are plenty of other places to enjoy a beautiful view in Waikiki. Skip the Shorebird and keep walking.”

“Walking into this cozy little restaurant feels like you are walking into Mr. Miyagi's backyard. Then it hits you; the smell of delectably roasting garlic. My wife and I were greeted by the friendly staff and seated in the Bonsai Garden. After enjoying an appetizer of sizzling mushrooms, we ordered the filet and our knowledgeable waiter paired it with a delightfully dry Merlot. Our entrees arrived on a traditional 500 degree hot rock: sizzling and tasty. Everything here has garlic in it, I especially recommend the bleu cheese covered roasted garlic. Even dessert is a light garlic sorbet with garlic sauce and despite how it sounds is surprisingly delicious. If you want a cozy atmosphere with out-of-this world food, and you love garlic, this place MUST be added to your itinerary.”

“When I lived in Waikiki for a few months I liked this place so much it was my "local". Nobody has mentioned one of its specialties: tequila. They have 30 different ones including a spicy one they make from scratch. I always get the spicy margarita. The mango or pineapple salsa (the season determines which fruit they use) is memorable - perfectly spicy and sweet. A few of the burritos are boring and dry though. The prices are very reasonable for Waikiki. One order of fajitas is plenty of food for two people. You can sit inside or outside they have tiki torches at night on the small lanai. Close to the beach. Parking is difficult - your best bet is to park towards Ala Wai Blvd. and walk. The service is great and usually friendly - most of the staff has worked there for more than 10 years. To the person who complained about the avocado "seed": that is to prevent the guacamole from turning brown - hardly an indicator of bad service. One complaint - you have to pay for chips and salsa. I hate penny-pinching like that.”

“Been here twice. Food took too long both visits - considering that the restaurant was nearly empty both times! Food was decent, probably because you are starving by the time you get it. Had to flag down the server just to refill our drinks. Would not return and definitely would not recommend.”

“Short ribs of beef: one of the worst meals I have ever had at Roys .to make it simple, I ended up with a plate of pot roast. Sorry but that is the truth.”

“The portions are big and the prices are cheap. This is a fast food diner that provides food that has been out on a warmer all day. Lot of grease but if you are more for quantity instead of quality, then this may be down your lane. The problem with this fast food diner is they offer very poor customer service. If you are dissatisfied with your meal or it takes too long to receive your food, there are no refunds. The owner will not allow you to order another meal at a lower price either. If the owner of the diner is dissatisfied with the customers complaint, she will tell you not to come back to her diner anymore. Definitely bad service!”

“Everyone we took there liked the food. So far all the dishes we had tried were really tasty. We were glad when a neighbor told us of this Chinese restaurant. Had been disappointed in all the ones we had tried in the Leeward side. The owner is always very warm and the food handlers are nice and friendly unlike most similar. A few dishes were on the small side but nevertheless, always tasty!”

“I seriously enjoyed that home style open feeling of a drive inn. Ive just moved to Oahu from Washington & was passing by so I thought Id stop in and to my surprise being extremely hungry I ordered their mushroom chicken . I just loved it! I know the appearance wasnt a high end deal, but the service and smiles was very awesome - loved it! I have to say not high priced but just right, great smiles and giggles not here's your food now go eat it attitude, it was a busy little drive inn but worth the wait to sit outside under the umbrella and chit chat.”

“This place's burgers are perfect! I ate burgers at several places while we were in Hawaii, and none of them even came close. There's nothing as good back home either! The meat was juicy and perfectly seasoned something most places ignore. The fries had the nice crispy outside and soft center. I wish I had room to try the onion rings too, but I was stuffed from the burger and fries. You can get an entire large sized meal here for less than the price of a plain burger at most other places.”

“This restaurant is an oasis in the high priced setting of Waikiki. The food was not only abundant, but of the very best quality, fresh and hot when it arrived at the table. The service was very nicely paced, as well, not the " turn and burn / get me in get me out" service that one normally is subject to in Waikiki. To the ownership, if you can part with the recipe for your sweet potatoes please pass it along, to anyone visiting the restaurant, be sure to try them. This from a restaurant manager for over twenty years.”

“Overall stick to other places for similar fare, Honolulu has so much to offer! The ambience is there but the food is average at best. We found it quite pricey for what you get, even by Honolulu standards. We have been there one time and will not go back. Eat at the Hilton Hawaiian village instead. Service missed a few beats too; people next to us sat after us but got first service which is perturbing when you are hungry.”

“Before dining at this restaurant we read other reviews on it and, indeed, we had an incredible meal there! The food portions are quite large - even the 'small' gave leftovers - and the service was good; our water glasses were never empty, though mine was overflowing with ice on the last refill!”

“We went without reservations and were the last couple to be put with three others for one chef. We were crammed into two seats - I literally had to step over the seats - and had people, and a pole, right behind us. The chef was all right and the service was OK, but our water glasses were being filled with ice rather than water! The chicken, and especially the steak, had quite the amount of fat on them, too!”

“This restaurant serves decent food and I was a regular customer but lately their service has gone downhill. I had problems with my last three or four take out orders. On one, I ordered a side order of guacamole and when I opened the plastic container at home there was a big guacamole seed in it.”

“I enjoyed listening to the afternoon music. There is a wonderful breeze flowing through here and is a great place to cool off and relax - to people watch in the market below. I visited this place several times - first time I had a Coke and they charged me $3.75 - a little pricey. A few days later I visited again, this time the Coke was $5.95. They said the first time was the happy hour charge and this was their evening charge - Both times it was around 6:00 p.m. Needless to say - I didn't go back - but I could hear the lovely music from the market below.”

“We stumbled on to this gem in Kaneohe. It's a family run restaurant and the food is the best Chinese we've tasted. It's very fresh because it's made when you order and doesn't sit around being reheated all day. The seafood fried rice is to die for. The Flounder and Schezwan sizzling mixed seafood grill are wonderful. We haven't had a bad meal there, and we go very often.”

“My wife and I were there on our 30th wedding anniversary. The food was good. Very good. The view. I can't tell you. They sat us behind a column. I heard the ocean. But they wouldn't move us. So we missed a sundown dinner on our 30th anniversary. (I told them it was our 30th.they just said they were busy. and they would have to put us at the end of the line. no promises. if you want to wait".) We didn't. They had some strolling singers who came by the table, and sang for tips. God help you if you don't tip! The staff was there, but not very attentive. The bar tender allowed a patron to hold 6 chairs for guests for over 30 minutes. She chased away 12-15 patrons who would have loved a drink. Her "guests" never showed. Dinner plates stayed on the table until we were ready to leave. Desert. Never offered. My recommendation. Fly to Kauai and eat at the dukes there.”

“Thelma's restaurant is a good family restaurant. The "Thelma's Special" is really good. It has Lichen Kigali (fried pork - crunchy skin with juicy meat) topped with freshly chopped onions, tomatoes and a little bit of Shout. They also have Tamarind soup with milk fish which I think is also good. Sari-sari is all OK too. If you are a Filipino this is a place you go to because here they really know their stuff.”

“Our visit to ciao mien in Honolulu was one we won't soon forget. The highlight of the experience was the food. No, wait, the atmosphere was. Um. Gosh, I was going to say the atmosphere is the best part of our experience at ciao mien but, the staff had incredible knowledge of the menu, which was very important because some in our party have food allergies and sensitive. The staff knew exactly what to do but, wait. The kitchen actually prepared special dishes for our table with those allergies in mind. Man, oh, man, what can I say? Every aspect of our experience was better than excellent! And they even provided clothing for us (a shirt with sleeves) as we just came from the pool area. We were thrilled to have had the chance to experience this jewel of Oahu! Cheers! Timmy.”

“We spent our 4th anniversary in Honolulu and ate here. Very romantic! The service was A++. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and am planning to dine there again when we go for our 10th next year. One thing we will do differently is go when there is more daylight left so we can enjoy the spectacular views from high above Waikiki, we went a little late last time. Other than that, spectacular experience!”

“The food was great... I had the coconut shrimp; my husband had the NY strip. The service was excellent and the setting beautiful. I'm from the east coast of the US and the pricing was about the same for seafood and steak (most prices out here are way higher!). I'd definitely recommend this restaurant.”
