Sheldon's Luncheonette
May 25, 2009 by Laura from Denver

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Nice sign.
  • Greasy spoon.

“I was embarrassed by the whole experience. It could best be described as a greasy spoon. The best part of the whole lunch was that we will laugh for years about how awful it was!”

La Creperie Inc
Feb 6, 2009 by Ted from Colorado Springs

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • None.
  • Food, service.

“Having spent the better part of 13 years in Europe I can honestly say this is the worst pass for a French cuisine restaurant. I can honestly say the service was very French in that they server was slow and seemed agitated, much like in Paris but that is where the similarity ends. I would avoid this location. The location is dark, dirty and cramped not a family friendly place or a place for a party larger then six unless you want to sit on one anothers lap. I would recommend any number of locations downtown Colorado Springs. For what you get the location is not up to par with one is lead to believe this restaurant is.”

Edelweiss Restaurant
Feb 25, 2008 by shawn from pueblo

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Everything good. Just expect a good experience.
  • More Restaurants, or maybe why its extra special.

“Cant beat some excellent German Food served by this place. German beer is an superb choice to go with your meal. Service is a great with plenty of room for large crowds. Strudel is a good choice if you can handle desert. Price are reasonable and its fun to look at the decorations and nick knacks that stem from old German taste.”

Uwes German Restaurant
Jan 30, 2008 by Barbara

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Loved the food.
  • Not crazy about the decor.

“Uwes is a fantastic restaurant if you're interested in good food and friendly, efficient service. The only strikes against it in my opinion is the atmosphere. It is located in the middle of a strip of establishments and the decor is more shabby than chic. However, this is what may be helping to keep the cost down. I plan on returning again and again!”

Detz Cafe
Sep 13, 2007 by NW from Colorado Springs

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7
Food:[7] • Service:[6] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • Prices and short wait time for food.
  • Old diner, torn seats and sort of a good ole boy scene.

“Detz Cafe is truly a greasy spoon restaurant. If you are looking for a decent grilled burger and want to escape the fast food restaurant scene, then this is your place. They also serve breakfast during lunch time. The prices are reasonable, and the waitresses sometimes call you a Huna.”

Sheldon's Luncheonette
Aug 1, 2007 by Skeeter from Arlington

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Food is tasty and portions enormous.
  • I don't want to know my cardiologist this well.

“Groceries on the table is what this place is all about. Two locations, both in nondescript strip malls. Fifties decor. Not 50s retro chic, just 50s. Popular with working folks, bikers, and guys like me that just like to eat. A single pancake as big as the front tire on a chopper for $3.15. Two of these is a short stack. Three is a full stack. Our waitress, who's been there 15 years, has seen the short stack eaten only twice. A cup of homemade green chili - that Colorado specialty with pork and none of what the rest of the world knows as chili seasoning - is $1.95, a bowl is $4.45 and a large bowl (read "tureen") is $4.95. A full order of biscuits and gravy requires increasing your tire pressure. Get the half order and skip lunch. Lock and load.”

Edelweiss Restaurant
May 3, 2007 by Lisa from Chicago

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9

  • Outstanding food, service, and atmosphere!
  • Too bad there aren't more places like it!

“Everybody should go to edelweiss restaurant at least once! I have traveled a good deal throughout the country and around the world and outside of Bavaria this is the best German food I have ever had! It is such a joyful experience when the musicians are playing and singing. The atmosphere, the food, and the service are truly authentic German. They also have incredible American entrees on their menu for those who don't appreciate German food. I visit edelweiss at least once every time I visit Colorado springs!”

Akasaka
Apr 25, 2007 by Sona from San Antonio

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Always a positive experience. From food to service.
  • Too far from san Antonio!

“From the tables and chairs to decorations on the wall, the restaurant's atmosphere is authentic Japanese. The food is no exception. Their sushi is excellent as are the undo noodles. However, my favorite dish is the tuna teacake salad which is to-die-for! It is slightly seared tuna sliced over a bed of greens (including seaweed!) With sweet nutty dressing with small fruit pieces. Yum! It is one of the things I look forward to when I visit Colorado springs. The staff is very accommodating and always there to fill my cup. They never charge extra for refills or extra miss soup. I always had great service whether I was alone or with a large group of people...”

Musashi Japanese Restaurant
Apr 1, 2007 by nancy from colorado springs

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[9] • Service:[4] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Good food, chef was nice.
  • Waitresses were total hags!

“Food was great, chef was nice but the servers and waitresses were definitely rude and lacking any positive attitude at all. We took 5 of six kids with us. Not one staff member ever said you're welcome or made any polite gesture at all. But two other tables came and told us how very well mannered our kids were. I almost wanted to leave because they came across so rude and unfriendly (maybe they just totally hate their job) but we stuck it out. The chef who cooked at our table was nice and the food was very good. We will go back because as I said good food, but not a friendly atmosphere.”

Phantom Canyon Brewing Company
Feb 12, 2007 by Rich from Colorado Springs

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Gouda soup, portion size, value for dollar.
  • Nothing.

“Very popular among both Natives and visitors (in fact it's one us locals recommend to visitors), its laid back atmosphere is conducive to business guests and anyone else stopping by to just relax and take a load off. The staff is friendly; the food is prepared by chefs with excellent taste and portions. My wife and I first came here on a recommendation, and now have made it a ritual. Try the gouda soup, it is superb (and Iżm not much of a cheese person other than what comes on my sandwich from the deli) oh yeah, the place also offers a full floor of billiards, and brews its own distinctive beer as well.”

Jun Japanese Restaurant
Jul 5, 2006 by Rebecca from USAF Academy

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Menu prices, sushi, service, accessibility.
  • The teriyaki beef is a little dry.

“ Jun was recommended to me by all the people I knew who were either Japanese or had lived in Japan. I have loved it ever since. It's fairly unassuming--but we all know some of the best ethnic food is found in strip-mall storefronts. Unless you go to the new secondary location (that one has the flashy decor and benihana-style cooking tables) don't expect a ton of artsy atmosphere. But Jun has it where it counts: low prices, great wait staff, and great food. Dinner entries range from $7-$13--I recommend the teriyaki salmon and salmon kasuzuka. Lunches are even cheaper, and Jun offers really great combo meals with beef or chicken teriyaki, tempura and California roll. That is what we usually get. When our budget is tight, we ask to be seated at the sushi counter and my husband and I are able to have miso soup, pickled cucumber salad, a drink each, and two orders of sushi all for under $15, including tips tot he hardworking sushi chefs. Jun is family friendly. I have four children, 6 years old and under, and no matter how noisy or messy my kids have gotten, the wait staff has always been patient, helpful, and accommodating. Nobody knows customer service like a Japanese waitress! My favorite dishes are the salmon teriyaki and the salmon kasuzuke. They also do a good tempura squid, not too salty or chewy. But where Jun really shines is the sushi--they have the basic, plus numerous specialty rolls. My favorite is the Becca roll, a combination of raw salmon, avocado, unagi and bean sprouts. I'd always enjoyed the tastes of sushi, but the Becca roll also artfully combines different textures. And it's cheaper than lesser sushi I've eaten at other sushi bars. Jun is right by a Hollywood video and a Meineke's. Wait times are never as bad as they are at, say, Olive Garden or Chili's, but I suggest getting there right after they open for lunch at 11 am, or for dinner at 5. More people are finding out about Jun all the time and if you have a large group and go at peak times you may wait for up to 20 minutes.”

Edelweiss Restaurant
Jun 5, 2006 by Elizabeth from Colorado Springs

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[8] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Charming, Friendly Service and Delicious Food.
  • A little overdone thematically.

“I've driven by this place a thousand times, but to try something new, I went in for dinner one night. I was very impressed with the attentive wait staff who were prompt and obviously had a trained eye for service. The food was delicious, I loved the baked brie, although I would probably try to diversify the menu a little (its an array of similar German dishes). Excellent all around, and a really fun time - it's like you're transported back to the Old World of Bavaria for dinner.”

Musashi Japanese Restaurant
Jun 3, 2006 by Ripley

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7
Food:[7] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • Great selection of food for people that don't like to eat sushi.
  • Poor padding in the table seats can get bothersome after a while.

“With fresh fish shipped from the coast almost daily, I found the actual sushi to be excellent. If you have issues with wasabi, be sure to tell them to not add any, as they will put some in a roll as a standard practice. You have your option of sitting in a private booth, a table, or at the sushi bar. Good selection of beer and wine. They also have some traditional Japanese courses. From the meals I have actually been able to try, they have all been great.”

Steaksmith Restaurant
Feb 25, 2006 by Gene from Colorado Springs

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4
Food:[4] • Service:[7] • Atmosphere:[4]

  • Friendly staff.
  • Terrible value.

“A very poor value for what is offered. The staff was friendly, but there was an odd policy in effect. We had three different waiters which made for a weird vibe. They rotated around the room. Literally, one hand does not know what the other is doing. No fault of the staff, just the result of the odd staffing policy. Value-wise it was awful. My girlfriend and I had an appetizer, the petite fillet, the ny strip with a bottle of wine and dessert. I have no problem spending good money on a good meal, but this was crazy. $125(including the tip @ 20%) for mediocre steaks and a salad bar. That's right, I said salad bar! For that kinda money, I do not expect a salad bar! If I wanted a salad bar I would have gone to some other lesser place. Serve me please, I am here to get what I pay for; great food and great service. Another thing, if I want to "doggie bag" the dessert to take home, it should be done by the wait staff, not myself! Basically it was: here is your box, do it yourself. Are you kidding me? I write this review because I want (mom and pop) places like this to thrive against the steak-chain restaurants like Outback, etc. But with this ordeal, I will look elsewhere. This was a Ruth Chris'/Flemings bill $$$ for a less than Outback quality.”
