El Pollo De Oro Mexican Restaurant
Feb 23, 2009 by Mark from Folsom, CA

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[2] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[3]

  • Nothing.

“Horrible restaurant, horrible food! First ordered Carne Asada Burritos, got a Carnitas Burritos. Informed waiter, and got a Carne Asada Burritos. Burrito was mostly rice, and meat and sauce was not tasty. Ordered a iced tea with meal, which tasted stale and unappetizing. Did not finish meal - best part about it was the Tortilla.”

Lantern Restaurant
Feb 22, 2009 by Tristine from Sacramento

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • A quiet place to enjoy a very good meal.
  • There's to many choices to try all in one sitting.

“My family and I have been going to the Lantern for a good 15 years or so, maybe more. The staff are always so polite and friendly. The food is always a generous and the taste is always fantastic! They have great lunch menus and dinner offers and they offer delivery through another delivery company. The food is always prepared quickly no matter when or how you order. I can't say enough about the Lantern. It will stay a family favorite of ours hopefully for a long time to come. If you are dining in, there is not a lot of heavy decoration but a nice atmosphere. They normally have a TV playing in the corner of the restaurant but not to loud. They also have a larger room for really large parties should you need one. I strongly recommend that if you have never been here, you should give it a try at least once.”

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[8] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • They were friendly and snooty all at the same time.
  • Wouldn't go back for any reason personally.

“It is very over priced and very snooty. Dinner for 2 with desert and a couple glass's of wine was $ 250.00 with tip. Not for the average guy and not for me anymore. I don't mind paying for a good meal but that is bit extreme for most.”

Ricos Pizza 25
Aug 15, 2008 by John

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • I liked how they took a request for the lunch buffet. I wanted a chicken supreme and they made it.
  • It was pretty busy when I got in and I had to wait in line for some time.

“I came in for their lunch buffet and I loved it. The people are friendly and they take requests for the buffet. This seems like a good place to hold meetings during lunch. There are many video games here that is great for the kids and a big screen for sports. The pizza is a little pricey, but it's worth the money.”

Alamar Marina Restaurant & Bar
Jul 10, 2008 by Bruce from Sacramento

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7

  • River setting, good food, delicious fish and chips.
  • A little pricy. Dinner prices even more so.

“I don't know of anyplace in Sacramento where you can dine closer to the river. The outside seating at Alamar is literally on a floating dock. It's one of my favorite lunch spots for that reason. If you chose to eat inside, it's cozy and comfortable. Be prepared for some surprisingly steep prices, however. This is not an upscale restaurant, but the prices definitely lean in that direction. Lunch will be $12 and up plus drinks. My favorite, the fish and chips (delicious) is $14.75 at this writing. Lunch for five yesterday was $85 plus tip. The plates are generous, however, and the food is good.”

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Server was friendly and accommodating.
  • Nothing really.

“Dined here with family, It was a Friday night so a little busy. Wait for a table was about ten minutes. Drinks came fast, service was exceptional for a Denny's. Food took a little longer but was hot and fresh. We ordered the Sampler as an appetizer and salads. These items usually come faster than the entrees. Overall, quite pleased!”

  • Great food. Great sushi chef.

“This is by far the best and most traditional Japanese restaurant in Sacramento. It does not have too much of that contemporary stuff that fills all other Japanese restaurants these days. It's a great family-owned establishment and I'd recommend this to anyone who wants something true to Japanese cuisine.”

Alonzo's Coffee Shop, Inc
Nov 16, 2007 by Sally from Sacramento

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • A great place to go for breakfast and lunch but I still order a dinner plate!
  • Not a place to go for romance or ambiance.

“My husband and I have been going to this little coffee shop for years. I always order the same thing one cheese enchilada and one chicken taco. Get the dinner that comes with salad and beans and rice and soup. Everything is super good from the blue cheese dressing on the basic lettuce salad, to the red hot sauce you drizzle on top of your food. I love the garbanzo bean soup but never seem to catch them when they make it. This is not a gourmet culinary adventure just good ol' greasy Mexican food with traditional family recipes. My husband always gets the Huevos Rancheros. This is family owned and operated for decades, and I believe some of the grandchildren work as waitresses! Week ends are busy and there is very little waiting room but the wait usually goes by fast.”

  • Waitresses talking about personal lives to each other-not professional.

“All in all, a nice place to eat. Went there while on week long Gv. School trip. Food is real good. Comparable to most mid-class Mexican food sit-downs. Atmosphere is moderately lit, could be romantic but no music or wandering marachi's. Sorry for the spelling/ I would go if your hungry and want to have fun with a big group. Firefighter.”

  • Apricot diva cake not so great. Most cakes not that amazing.

“The Caramel Napoleon is delicious. And the tiramisu is some of the best I have ever had. I have ordered a few cakes there that didn't blow up my skirt. And they tend to be dry/stale. But the pies and pastries are amazing. Cool 50's atmosphere. Takes a while to get anything because there is always a line when its late night at Ricks.”

Stoney Inn Bar & Grill

  • Greatest service. The manager is the owner. That helps.
  • Building looks great but it could use the remodel they are planning.

“Very interesting building, great service. Met the owner and he manages it very well. The food was great. The owner said that they were opening a steakhouse next year. The restaurant menu was good but the food was great. The place is very quaint and special. Del Paso boulevard is very up and coming giving a feel of the old days when you could walk down the main street downtown. Watch for the place to become a hot spot.”

Tapa the World
Sep 15, 2007 by Hannah from Davis, CA

Overall Rating: 3 User Rating Score: 3
Food:[6] • Service:[6] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • The bread and the mushroom Tapas.
  • The seating, the horrible host.

“I have been to there several times with a smaller group, and have always had a good experience. Today I came with a group of six, and I was completely disappointed with our seating. We made reservations, per the instructions on the website for large groups, and when we came, we were literally taken to a cramped space in a corner to be seated. We walked past several empty tables set up to seat large groups, and because our table was too cramped for our group, we asked to be sat outside, which had 3 large tables open. Instead of giving us a large table, the host put together 2 small round tables. We hardly had enough room for our food. Even though we specifically asked for the large rectangular tables, we were told that they were reserved. By the time we left an hour and a half later, the tables were still empty and we were angry. The food was good and our waitress was nice, but the seating arrangement really made the experience horrible. I'm not going back, and you shouldn't either.”

“Stay away. Avoid this tourist trap. Absolutely horrible, literally the worst place I have ever ate. I felt like I was robbed, even at $4.95 per person. I think I would commit suicide before eating in this place again. Buffet was a joke. Consisted of pizza, Mac and cheese, spaghetti and salad. Pizza was cheap packaged store bought pizza and only two or three different types; the pasta was canned spaghetti-0's and no bread, Mac and cheese was watered down and the salad bar consisted of lettuce and a couple of vegetables. You could see the disappointment in the faces of all other diners. Atmosphere? The area next to the large screen TV was blocked and the noise from the video games, which were next to the big screen TV was irritating and overwhelming even thou no one was playing them.”

Silver Garden Restaurant
Jun 27, 2007 by Jerry from Spokane, WA

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • The food was fresh, delicious and inexpensive.
  • The restaurant was a bit shabby.

“I didn't have anything from the standard menu, although what I saw being served looked and smelled fresh and appetizing. Instead, I went for the Mongolian barbeque. The silver garden does it right, with frozen slices of pork, beef, chicken and I don't know. Perhaps turkey, along with a wide variety of fresh crisp vegetables, as well as noodles. A nice addition was a bowl of whole peanuts and a bowl of fresh cilantro. The sauces were extensive and varied, and a display board made suggestions as to how one might sauce up his selection. The cook quickly cooked the mixture, and had it back to me in a matter of minutes. Excellent!”

“Leathery is an amazing place if you want some awesome ice cream. While other ice cream places have good ice cream you can taste the difference because all of the ice cream, sauces, and whip cream are home made. Don't come here on a full stomach because anything you get will be enough to fill you up. My personal favorite is the black and white. It is huge scoops of vanilla and chocolate ice cream smothered in home made fudge, marsh mellow and whips cream. They don't hold much back making every ice cream with either the sauce over flowing or a scoop of ice cream on the side. This is the best ice cream place around...”

Texas West Barbeque
Feb 27, 2007 by Steve from Vacaville

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • I loved the Smokey wood flavor the bib brisket has.
  • The only negative I have is the size of the Sacramento location and there not being another restaurant closer to me.

“Quite honestly I have to disagree with the review of the woman looking for a replacement rib joint for Tony Roma's. Texas west bib is far superior in taste than Tony Roma's. The atmosphere at the Roseville location is better; but only because the restaurant is larger and feels more open. The service is great and the employees are very friendly. I have eaten at both locations and the food tastes exactly the same. I only wish that there was a third restaurant located in Vacaville, ca because there really is no selection of bib here and the bbq restaurants we do have are no where near as good as Texas west bib.”

Food:[1] • Service:[6] • Atmosphere:[2]

  • Overpriced and overcooked food in a crowded environment!
  • I had a front row seat of an old drunkard vomiting at his table!

“Do not eat at this restaurant. The food is overpriced, the wait will be long (no matter what day you go), and when you do actually get the food that you order, it's going to taste like warm rubber. The manager only cares about your money, and will do everything in his power to get you out as quickly as possible, even if they don't get your order right, or bring you the wrong wine. Go to a restaurant in old sac where the place will appreciate your business. Avoid this place at all costs! ”

Historical Fultons W End Bar
Sep 23, 2006 by RICHARD from RENO, NV/SACRAMENTO, CA

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • By all means try it! You'll like it. No! You'll LOVE it!
  • Only 100% Positive! If I could think of anything negative I would put it down. That night was all positive!

“I Just cannot help but correct the record in response to "O.T." from Escondido's review of May 3, 2006! After my dinner experience of Sept. 20, 2006 (which was absolutely exceptional!), I cannot help but seriously wonder if "O.T." is nothing more than an extremely jealous local competitor! Everything he stated in his review could not be more opposite to myself and my wife's dining experience! First, the hostess and waitress could not have been more cordial and attentive making sure throughout our entire dining experience that everything was prepared and presented exactly as we had ordered it! And they constantly let it be known if there were any requests that we thought would enhance our dining experience in any way to just let them know and it would immediately be attended to. My wife ordered the New York Steak done medium well and I ordered a Prime Rib end cut with the inside of the end cut blacked Cajun style. But first we both started with a Cesar salad that came with our meal and it came crispy and fresh with extra shredded cheese, croutons, and dressing, just as we both had requested, and accompanying our version of the perfect Cesar salad was a warmed crusty long demi loaf of coarse-grained sour dough bread with the perfect hint of garlic served with the sweetest, creamiest, butter this side of heaven! Up until that moment my wife and I both thought the "Alta Dena" butter served at the "Olive Garden" couldn't be topped...But this fresh, creamed, butter...Proved us wrong! Throughout our meal we enjoyed five(!) servings of warm bread with lots of extra butter of course, until we had to turn down a sixth serving offered by our waitress or we literally would have busted! My wife's New York Steak arrived prepared to perfection and my Prime Rib end cut came out nice and crusty on the outside and heavily blackened on the inside cut, just like I like it, and just as I had ordered it. And even though both cuts of meat were ordered medium well both were just as juicy as could be, which is no small feat when meat is ordered on the well side. The fresh vegetable medley with light Italian seasonings was bursting with fresh flavor and was served just right, bring neither over or under cooked! And the exceptionally tasty mashed garlic and cheese potatoes rounded out our perfect meal. As far as their deserts, well my children, if you haven't figured it out by now, we were way too full to test the desert cart. But, if you ever do so, please leave us a note here on what you thought was worth trying. In closing, all I can say is that nothing about our meal was "tough", in fact, everything about that night will remain with both myself and my wife as one of our most memorable! ”

Tres Hermanas

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[10] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Fast seating, friendly and quick service.
  • There aren't any, even the downtown parking isn't bad.

“I am always looking for a good Mexican restaurant and on the recommendation of a co-worker I tried Tres Hermanas. I wasn't expecting anything different as recommendations seldom seem to pan out for me. Well I was more than pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere is that of many Mexican restaurants but this one is a little more quaint. It is an old house in the downtown area that was renovated into Tres Hermanas. It has the typical Mexican restaurant decor but the food is anything but typical! I had the cheese enchilada combination and my husband had the carne asada. The enchilada sauce was rich rojo with a flavor I've never tasted, it is excellent! The beans and rice are just like my friend Lupe's mother makes, and she's the best in town! I tried my husband's carne asada and it too was excellent. We have returned may times since and are always greeted with a smile from one of the friendly hostesses. If you want "real" home cooked Mexican food, you need to come here. Go a little early on Saturday nights though, like me, many other people have discovered this Sacramento treat!”

From beer steamed hot dogs to German sausage, with every kind of topping imaginable, every hot dog lover will be sure to find something they like here. Their French fries are perfectly crisp, no soggy fries here, and come in tray sized portions, so make sure to bring all your friends with you. They also have a wide selection of beers, from local to international. The store is family owned, and everyone who works there is super nice. But remember to get some cash before you leave, because they don't take credit or checks.”

Strings Italian Cafe
Dec 3, 2005 by Jim from Yorba Linda

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[9] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • Top notch Italian without fancy prices and good service too.
  • You might have to wait to get in on a busy night.

“I was in Sacramento briefly and was looking for someplace to eat beyond the same old same old chains. You know, Red Lobster, Chili's, Black Angus, etc. My hotel recommended this place and it really fit the bill. The place was crowded, not too unusual for a Friday night, I suppose, but as a "single" I got in rather fast. The waitresses didn't see any guys. Were very nice and I was served quickly and warmly. The food was very good. The minestrone was top notch. I recommend a bowl as a starter. I had the salmon dish with, I think, vermicelli. It was very good. The other dishes I saw being served also looked great and made me second guess my choice. I wanted something on the lighter side, but a fellow I struck up a conversation with said the spaghetti was excellent and quite a bargain. The place was suitable for families, but could be a good place for a date. I would say this is a great little Italian place with reasonable prices and great service. Hard to go wrong here. And desert, a pecan decandance of some sort with ice cream, was also quite good.”

Nagato Sukiyaki
Aug 11, 2005 by JoAnn Ford from Sacramento

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • I love the gyoza
  • The only negativity that I have is that I can't eat all my meals there everyday

“If you are looking for the authentic style of Japanese cooking, this is the restaraunt. My mother is Japanese and an excellent cook. For me, dining at Nagato's is like being at my mother's table.”

Jamie's Bar & Grill
May 11, 2005 by Brian F . from Sac

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

“Jamie's is the perfect place to take your significant other no matter what your attire. The atmosphere reminds me of a cross between a rustic old time saloon and a quaint ghost town mercantile store. The food is superb and the choices will not overwhelm you. Its a must visit in my book and I will bet it wont be just one visit.”
