“What a true coffee house. Sip large variety of loose teas or coffee in big bowls. Chat with others or read the post or a good book. Have their veggie sandwich and chicken salad with a Soho wine smoothie. Thanks for being there.”

“The worst restaurant in the world. The waitress was rude and the food was disgusting. On top of that, they add a 15% tip to your bill without letting you know.”

“On our trip to DC, we noticed this restaurant from the top of a double decker bus and decided to try it out. It was definitely well worth it. The staff is very nice and friendly, and will make your food specifically to your order! It also has very good prices and a great location as it is right across from Ford's Theatre. We will definitely eat here next time!”

“I have been eating there for a few years because of the wonderfully thin crust pizza. The rest of the menu is very average. Tonight I decided on the Americana pizza for the first time and almost choked on a lengthy piece of plastic/coating they said was the casing of the pepperoni. And then there was a second piece. The owner said I shouldn't worry because it would dissolve in time. This is no consolation when it is stuck in your throat. Avoid the pepperoni.”

“Their food is amazing. I am eating general Tao chicken right now. It is sweet chicken with broccoli. They give you free rice! Big servings not the small servings some restaurants give you. I truly recommend you to try this place out. Delicious.”

“Food was delicious. My wife and I were able to enjoy a glass of wine before dinner in the lounge which had a live pianist. We moved into the Atrium for dinner and had a terrific 4-course meal (appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert). The tuna appetizer was my favorite. And my wife enjoyed her local Rockfish Entree very much. We would definitely stay at the Henley Park Hotel again and dine in their restaurant.”

“The food at Wah Sing is delicious, it reminded me of the way Chinese was before the fast food explosion. The atmosphere is very relaxed. You must overlook the locals but they are mostly harmless. Try the food even if you have to take it out. One of the best for not a lot of money.”

“This is a hole in the wall kind of place. More like a carry-out place that has been here for years. The seafood is off the hook no pun intended. It's a spot that all the locals know about. I can tell you that most of the time there is a line going out the store for the whiting platter. If you are in DC for the first time you would most likely turn your nose up at the place just by driving by. But if you had a local guidance to hit the spot it would be the joint. Give it one time, and you will be back.”

“I must say that compared to Cafe Phillips around the corner, you get more for price. However each and every time that I've gone there, I've had to wait for the man behind the counter to finish his phone call with his family and friends, wait until my correct order is given to me (they've messed up every time I've been there, at non-peak times, and then had the nerve to tell me I didn't order what I wanted) and then get the correct change. Because apparently he can't count either. Have been packing my own lunch or dealing with Union Station's food court since.”

“The big problem was the food. The service was excellent and the ambiance made me feel special but the catfish sandwich was over spiced and undercooked. It was inedible and I got into a huge fight with the waitress but she took the charge off the bill and didn't charge us for the extra capers.”

“This is not a sit-down restaurant - mostly takeout - although there is a stand-up counter if you wish to "dine" in. The pizzas are exceptional and the portions (by-the-slice) are generous. The sign out front warns that the pizzas are habit-forming and I can see why. I rarely go to DC that I don't stop in at least a couple of times. Also, this is an extremely popular after-hours stop after a night of bar-hopping. The lines can be a little long around 2:00 am - 3:00 am, but they move quickly and it's definitely worth the wait.”

“Wah Sing is an out-of-the way in-plain-sight rendezvous spot for lovers. The food is pretty good and they have a variety of offerings. Not too family friendly because they also have a bar and TV and sometimes on certain days the drunks are a little rowdy and use profanity.”

“I've eaten here twice now. I was excited to return, but was disappointed in this second visit. True to form, the service was good. The ambiance with white linen tablecloths surpassed that of other Indian restaurant one to two doors away. The food last time was great. This time, someone did not understand the esthetic appeal of food. The first four buffet type food receptacles all looked like beans or lentils or something of the same shape in gravy. You only got to anything with a different esthetic appeal in the last two food receptacles which was forms of chicken. Whoever set up the first four servers of four types of round nondescript items in a gravy type sauce must not have thought much about the appearance. I'm sure each tasted great, but it looked like one after another of a variation on a theme. I was very disappointed as I only get to visit this restaurant once a year during our annual convention. Based on my experience this time, I'd avoid both Indian restaurants near the Marriott. Management needs to wake up and offer their customers something that appears other than lentils as variations on a theme in four separate receptacles. Sad. It is the nicer of the two Indian restaurants on the street and I'd still rather re-visit them than their neighbors. At least those wonderful white tablecloths even during lunch mad me feel special. This restaurant and others on the street capitalize from their location near the Omni and Marriott. It's somewhat sad as they have much potential.”

“I've eaten here twice now. I understand why I was reticent to visit a second time. We were offered one wine selection, basically the house red or white. The food was o.k. No cloth tablecloths to enhance the dinner time dining experience. Food was o.k., but nothing special. I'd probably seek out other restaurants in the future for something special. This restaurant and others on the street capitalize from their location near the Omni and Marriott, not on their dining experience. It's sad as they have much potential.”

“My two friends and I visited last Sunday. The spinach artichoke dip on the menu was not available and we were offered the chips and salsa. The salsa was predominated by onions and I'd not order again. This is probably more of a drinking than an eating establishment. The waitress was nice when we ordered and when the meals were delivered. We never saw her again and we had to finally ask someone else for a check. O.K. Nothing bad. Nothing great.”

“Have been going there since I was in high school - 1960's - rude- no - quirky, yes. Have lived away from DC since 1976 - but still travel there on a regular basis & wouldn't miss AV. Dark even in the day - chairs squeak against the marble floors - Remember AV greeting customers - opera playing. Wine in juice glasses from a pitcher. Portions are Hugh & are not "gourmet", but honest and straight forward. The stuffed artichokes, Bucatini Carbonara, Cannelloni - the best. Homemade sausages. Stuff your stroller lady - get a sitter. If they are closing - a huge loss - as we were planning to come in February.”

“There are many Thai restaurants in the DC area. However, you would be pressed to find one that has the feeling of the mom and pop style restaurant. The service is really good and more importantly than the service is their food. I will and have in the past revisited a restaurant with poor service because the food was good. Had Thai has 2 of 2 in this column. Their menu covers all the basic Thai dishes and covers them well. I would have to say. Having lived just 2 blocks from the restaurant and eating out 4 5 times a week, I can honestly say that I have eaten everything on their menu at least twice. The great thing is that their dishes hold their quality from the 1st time to the 10th time you have it, quality control a big yes! Bottom line: I have had more expensive, smaller portions, at a top end Thai place in NYC and it does not even compare to this friendly little place in the heart of DC. I love it! I am sure having the owner be Thai who brings in great Thai chefs helps a little).”

“Sequoia's glory has declined rapidly in the past year. The staff was too unprofessional and poorly dressed to represent a fine establishment. The hostesses looked like they were 12 years old and were dressed so casually, that I wasn't sure if they had just wandered in off of the street. When our waiters tried to make up for the fact that they left us sitting at our table for 15 minutes without so much as a greeting, they continued to fumble awkwardly throughout the meal. Though the service had little hope of improving during our meal, we remained optimistic about the food. The vegetables were not fresh, the steaks were tough and drenched in an awful cover-up sauce, and the potatoes tasted overdone. We were ultimately so disappointed that we will never return to sequoias for a meal again. To celebrate our anniversary, we had looked forward to a romantic evening dining in dc with a lovely view. All we really got was the view. When our waiter asked if we were celebrating a special occasion, we explained that it was our anniversary. Not expecting anything extraordinary, we were temporarily impressed to have the manager visit us later in the meal. The experience turned confusing and awkward when the manager continued to stand at the table and say nothing. We smiled awkwardly until he left. When we received our dessert, there was a candle in it and our waiter made a little fuss about the celebration, which was ok. However when we received our check, the dessert was not complimented. Even an average restaurant will compliment a birthday or anniversary dessert. Don't bother sending the manager over to interrupt my meal if you're not going to comp my dessert! Sequoia's is an overpriced restaurant for a cheap experience. If you ever want to visit sequoia's for the view, and then just stay at the bar upstairs. Appetizers and entrees are just not worth it! .”

“First impression was great with nice decor and a chic interior, so naturally the expectations were high. Had three types of sushi rolls and was disappointed in all three: tuna avocado (made it spicy), yellowtail, and crunchy tuna roll. We were more than disappointed in the make rolls. The first two which came out (tunas) were overwhelmed with straight "heat" for spice instead of a subtle and complex spice you would expect mixed into the actual inside of the roll.”

“This place was horrific. The place was very unsanitary with flies everywhere. Refrigeration was poor and dirty. The walls look as if they haven't been clean in years. Floor was very dirty. Old cash register. There was no menu. The billboard that displays the menu was very empty and dirty. None of the two guys washed there hands after preparing my food and fixing the next gentleman food. If you travel at night to this hole in the wall don't travel alone you could fear for your safety. People loitering on the outside of the building. Now fly season is over and why were there more flies inside than there were outside. But the restaurant fits the original people of DC it is only a reflection of that. Now this place was featured on Rachel Ray and that is what inspired me to come. Mac and Cheese old and these are can greens. I was so happy to give them my money and give them the 2 dollars and change to see if that could help it really needs it.”

“This is wonderful Sichuan food. I work nearby and ate there at least once a week for years, and then they closed because of a lease problem. Two years later, they have renovated into a nearby, smaller space, and it's fresh, clean, nicely decorated with Chinese art, and the food is just simply some of the best Chinese available in DC. My favorite Chinese restaurant. I often took business clients there, and will now again.”

“Wow I ate here and the food was incredible. I had the Moroccan lamb med rare and it was out of this world. My server was able to answer every question and recommend a great merlot to go with my dinner. I will visit every time I visit dc. The tables were a little tight but the food and service more than made up for it.”

“This is the best restaurant I have ever been in. The first time my husband and I went, we were supposed to go to a show down the street and it was taking a while for the food to come out. We asked the very polite waiter if he knew when it would be ready since were getting close to show time. The next thing we knew, 3 waiters and the manager were quickly bringing out our food and the manager said that because it took longer than usual for us to get our food, for us to please come back after the show for drinks and dessert on the house. We never expected that. We went back after the show and the manager was there waiting for us and followed through with her promise while showing genuine interest in how we liked the show. You just don't get that kind of service everyday and I would recommend this place to anyone near there. We have been back several times ourselves and have always had outstanding service and food. All 10's from this happy customer!”

“Although it looks more promising than the surrounding Chinese dining establishments, it is clearly priced a little higher, offers no real additional value, and in my opinion was predatory. The place was quite crowded at 2pm and we were seated next to the untidy holding tanks which contained fish used for meals. The tanks were open, and the aroma in this area was distinctly "eau de pond". The DC board of health should investigate the unsanitary splashing which arises from the aeration system and the periodic harvesting of fish by the staff. Perhaps as additional ambiance, a fish was netted and carried through the dining room while we were there. Four of the five dishes that we ordered: one chicken, one pork, one beef, one vegetable, were high on sauce and all tasted very similar. Given the premium price, the meat content was low for thhe chicken and pork dishes. The closing dining surprise came with the accompanying seafood dish. We asked for a recommendation from the waiter for a seafood dish; he took the opportunity to recommend their "special", which was Dungeness crab in a ginger sauce. It featured pieces of crab in shell (~6 legs, 1 small claw, and the empty carapace); it was also virtually impossible to eat since the crab was overcooked, tasteless, and bonded to the shell. The sticky, unspectacular sauce merely made the process of liberating the crab meat more difficult. In retrospect, I strongly suspect, as another reviewer has suggested, that the food (in this case, crab) was previously cooked and recycled into our daily special. I mentioned our dissatisfaction with the crab when the waiter reappeared after the meal. He smiled and just presented the bill, which included a $45 charge for the crab dish. Note: that virtually every entree on the menu was around $10-25. At this point I was pretty sure the waiter had knowingly pushed the leftovers on us. He actually had the gall to follow me out of the restaurant to insist on a tip, indicating he had already given me a big discount on the crab "special".”

“I remember the food being quite delicious during previous visits when I was younger. However the most recent time I tried to eat at A.V. (this evening), I was verbally assaulted by the owner because my baby's stroller was in his way. This is not an exaggeration. The entire bar area where we were waiting to be seated became completely silent as the owner screamed at me in his loudest voice, then ordered me out of his restaurant. I was holding my child in my arms at that time. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.”

“This was the worst restaurant I have ever eaten. The food was disgusting. I had the linguine with clams and the pasta was full of oil. It had a Nastily aftertaste. My friends had the salmon sandwich, and they basically ate an egg sandwich. The salmon was only a sliver, if that. Service was okay at the most. Way too expensive for the type of foods they serve. “If spit is worth an entire meal then eat at La Loma. The cost of having the extra gooey flavor of someone's saliva is a good value for you money. I creates a wonderful atmosphere for both the romancing and family type. I suggest you spend your money elsewhere. For good Mexican Cuisine visit Tortilla Coast on the House Side; where you'll be treated as royalty.”

“The sushi is very fresh and presented beautifully. The prices are a little cheaper than other sushi places in the area, but that doesn't mean the quality is cheaper. There is usually a good crowd of people, but I have never had to wait for a table. I highly recommend you give spices a try.”

“I visited Kramer books weekend of Mar 2 for breakfast having been book shopping the day before. The first impression is quite favorable especially when you enter the place via the bookstore. The staff were nice and competent. The downside had only to do with the food. I ordered the eggs benedict with smoked salmon and potatoes home fries. The eggs were runny raw and English muffin was not toasted. Home fries were oily greasy and undercooked. Smoked Salmon was good as were the complimentary muffins and fresh squeezed OJ. All of this for $15.50 seemed like a lousy value for me. ”

“Goodness, Greg and I didn't eat at the same place. Mr. K's was a fantastic restaurant that put my gourmet cooking to shame. Between the warm towels, beautiful corsage for the ladies, (lemon?) Sorbet between courses, and impeccable service, this restaurant is a wonderful place to eat and create a memory, an experience. I had the grand mariner shrimp entree, and couldn't believe the dreamy taste in my mouth. Definitely worth the money, though the dessert left something to be desired. Stunning food.”
