User Reviews for Groton Restaurants« Go back to Leesville AttractionsResearch User Reviews for Groton (1-9 of 9)Costellos Clam Company
“This restaurant is out of the way, but worth the extra little drive away from the main attractions of Mystic. There's nothing fancy about Costello's. They have a snack bar style service, where you place your order at a window and pick it up when your number is called. They have a deck with tables overlooking numerous docked boats. This alone is what gives the place nice atmosphere. (If you're a pet lover you may also like to know that well behaved pets are welcome, on a leash, on the lower deck). Their food was delicious, and very reasonably priced!”

“When you first pull up in front of this place you think there must be some mistake! This looks like a dump! But step inside and you will be amazed by how pleasantly warm and friendly the atmosphere is, how well you will be taken care of, and just how amazingly delicious is the food. Very reasonable prices, friendly staff and a quirky, intriguing atmosphere that both relaxes and welcomes. Hard to believe what a find this place is.”

“We went to Russell's after seeing a movie as a party of 10. We ordered drinks and appetizers with 2 entrees mixed in. Our drinks came back wrong 3 times (margaritas instead of Mojitos) and instead of being apologetic, the waitress gave us attitude and sent her manger over. When we tried to explain that the waitress was overwhelmed and just took the orders wrong (after I personally watched her write down the correct drinks) she interrupted and berated us, accusing us of lying about our drink orders. I have never been treated so poorly in my life, and this was by a manger! Our food was late; it took 45 minutes to get a glass of water. Now, we are not young, rude, drunk people. We are all professionals, have children and the median age is about mid-thirties. I urge you not to eat at Russell's! There are far better restaurants in the area with better food and views (not to mention staff!).”

“My wife and I and another couple stopped in for a seafood dinner. I was taken aback when our waitress told me I could not have soup instead of salad with my entree. She said I could not have pasta instead of potato. My wife ordered soup and an appetizer, no entry as that was plenty for her. The other couple did the same. We were charged for two sharing plates when we got the bill. I do not feel this restaurant is customer friendly and will not return.”

“Four of us went to dinner. We had reservations and it was not busy. The server was very attentive but not intrusive. The food was very good to excellent. The pre-meal bread was plentiful and excellent. We had prime rib/rack of lamb/bouillabaisse/broiled fish platter. There were in-house made salad dressings. Excellent. Drinks (manhattans/margarita/ pin colada were very good to excellent. We had cheesecake and frozen lemon chiffon for dessert. They were very good. The one flaw was that the bouillabaisse that was not finished was thrown away instead of being "doggy bagged". Down 1 star. The server did have a replacement made up but it was less than what was left over. We all thought that it was a bit pricy. Down another star.”

“For many years, we have loved going to the fisherman for one of our vacation dinners out. Last year the service and food was iffy but we tried again this year. Never again. Service was slow and abrupt. Food was mediocre at best. As we were leaving the restaurant, several employees leaving for the night were laughing and talking and yelled across the parking lot, that pretty much summed up our experience. Mediocre food; poor service; no bargain. Sad that one of our favorites has come to this.”

“Located in a really ugly strip mall. Scary on the outside but cozy and fun on the inside. The food was delicious, steaks and seafood, pasta dishes and just really good "bar food" prices were more than reasonable for some of the best food in town. ”
