“Took my mom to lunch here today. To say that the service was perfunctory is being overly kind. We were seated promptly, with hardly a word from the buzzer who handed us menus and took our drink orders. No bread basket was brought to our table, although nearby diners had them. The waiter took my meal order, and then started to leave the table before my mother gave hers. I guess he thought because I ordered 2 appetizers (calamari and steamed clams) that were all we wanted. The food was brought after about 10 minutes. I had to ask the waiter to refill my tea. The clams were good although the broth a bit on the salty side; the calamari was good too, but a couple pieces had uncooked batter in the center. Both dipping sauces were excellent. My mom had the chowder in the bread bowl, which was delicious. We were not offered freshly ground pepper, although other nearby customers who had ordered chowder was. We were nearly done with the meal before the waiter bothered to come by and see if we needed anything else. The buzzer also passed by multiple times without offering to clear obviously completed items. We paid the check and left. As a local, there are far too many restaurants here in Monterey for me to be inclined to return to this cute place. Too bad. .”

“If the rating scale went to 11, you'd give it a 15. The best kept secret on the Peninsula.”

“Great food and good service but restaurant is somewhat dirty, needs some care and a lot of elbow grease. Restroom is filthy.”

“Every time I go to Monterey, the first place I eat is Michael's. I get a lot of great food for a fairly inexpensive price. The blackened chicken fajitas salad is the greatest, and the guacamole is the best I have ever had.”

“Its is kind of like finding that hole in the wall that you will never forget. And if you try their pizza you will never forget this place, trust me. We live in Maryland now and still crave those delicious pizzas with fresh toppings, non traditional sauces, etc. It is in the beautiful pacific grove but it is at the top of the hill bordering both PG and Monterey, so when you get done, you might take a cab there but walk back to your place afterwards and you will be creating memories to last a life time. ”

“We have always had a great meal, great service and completely enjoyed dining here. We have dinner here every time we are in town, and always recommend it to friends. ”

“Dining at the old bath house was one of the two best restaurant dining experiences of my life, along with Biggs in Chicago on north Dearborn. I am 68 years old and have eaten in a lot of restaurants. The food was wonderful; the atmosphere romantic, the view of the seals relaxing, and the service was excellent. One thing we loved about the service is that the waiter did not hover over us asking if everything was ok. We never even saw him while we were eating, drinking and talking. But should we want something, we looked up and around the room, and bang, he was right there. Not intrusive but readily available when wanted. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting excellent food, atmosphere and service. I do this with reservation, because I would hate to see it overrun with tourists with no taste and loud mouths. If you are like that, please do not go to the old bath house.”

“There are so many things to do and see on the Monterey Peninsula. Sadly, it's hard to experience everything for as long as you would like. Seems like it's "Here is a beautiful place. grab a camera and take a picture. We've seen it, now let's go on to the next place right over yonder." One day we were taking pictures and watching the world go by in the park at Lovers Point. Looking for a place to eat lunch, my wife looked across the street and, viola!!...a place to eat lunch. Fish-n-chips at a reasonable price for a traveling family. Enjoy the view and eat in comfort and plan the rest of the day. The next night, my wife and I wanted a nice place to eat. just the two of us.... It was even better ”

“I love Vivolo's. This is the first romantic dinner my wife and I had together when we were first dating. The food is outstanding. We drive from Berkeley to go for lunch. Only a block away from the Aquarium makes it very convenient. You must try the chowder with the garlic lid. My daughter loves the squid and chips and writing on the table. Sorry.”

“Good food, can be noisy, it has hardwood floors but this is not a minus, just a comment. Servers don't rush patrons. One complaint, there is no refill on soft drinks and they're $2.50 each with lots of ice. Margaritas are excellent, one is more than enough, lots of alcohol in them, I should have shared mine. Frozen ones are not available, I wish they offered those. ”

“Nearly the best burger, joint in the area, like mom used to make, just yard from the ocean, reasonable prices, several other dishes available.”

“When on the Monterey Peninsula, we always reserve 1 or 2 mornings to eat at First Awakenings. There is no better place to leisurely plan the rest of the day...but you have to remember to get up and go because it's easy to enjoy First Awakenings so much that you forget about everything else there is to do. Whether your plans include a day of golf, shopping on Cannery Row, whale watching, or just driving to see all of the beautiful wonders of the Peninsula a breakfast at First Awakenings means you already have a wonderful memory upon which to build. Oh yeah....did I mention how refreshing it is to eat on the patio on a crisp Monterey cool morning while being warmed by the outdoor fireplace?”
