Villa Nova Restaurant
May 22, 2009 by Char from Las Vegas

Overall Rating: 7 User Rating Score: 7
Food:[4] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • The food was tasty.
  • No treated fairly.

“This is a beautiful restaurant overlooking the water and what little food I ate there (appetizers in the bar area) was good. I will never go back to this restaurant, nor recommend it to any friends. We all felt very much so bad for how we were treated!”

Laventinas Big Cheese Pizza
Oct 7, 2008 by Jeremy from Newport Beac

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5
Food:[5] • Service:[5] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • Open at 2 AM.
  • How it tastes when you're sober.

“The only people who like this pizza are the drunk idiots leaving the bars. I'm guilty too. It's good at 2 AM, but any other time I'd rather have a $1 Totinos! Absolutely horrible heated over too. Even if you reheat in the oven.”

Sapori Inc
May 13, 2008 by Tim from Newport Beach

Overall Rating: 5 User Rating Score: 5
Food:[8] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • The food is good!
  • There is no service.

“I have been to this restaurant a dozen times because of the food or suggestions from friends to join them. My last visit was May 11, 2008. The management have set up the service(?) so that the waiter takes the order, and they rush you, if you take too much time you won't see them for 15 or so minutes, same with the check. Busboys pour your water (spotty), many times serve your food. Don't look for fresh ground pepper to be offered for salad, it's dump and go. The food is very good, or I'd never go back.”

Baja Sharkeez, Inc.
Nov 5, 2007 by Stephanie from Lakewood, Ca.

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[3] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[2]

  • At least we got appetizers.
  • The staff and the service were extremely horrible. The worst I've ever experienced.

“This was one of my worst experiences at a bar. My sister in law planned a surprise party for my brother's 30th birthday. She chose to take a limo to Sharkeez in Newport beach because they had advertised their birthday services for large groups. Parties are supposed to receive reserved seating, complimentary appetizers, and 2 for 1 drinks. Out of all that, all we got was the appetizers. My sister in law brought in a party of 30 people and all they gave us was rudeness. There was one tiny table with like 8 chairs for over 30 people. We never got any drink service, and when we went to the bar they would not give us the 2 for 1 drinks because we weren't ordering from the table! On top of all this, one of the security guards (hector) was very insulting and actually asked my husband If he wanted to "take It outside"! We managed to find one other small table with 4 chairs on it to use. Not even an hour after we were there, the security guards came and starting taking that table away to make room for dancing. I asked this security guard If we could get a booth then because we had a reserved party of over 30 people with only one tiny table. Instead of asking the manager about this, he became belligerent and told me "I'm doing my job!" he just continued his rude tirade when I asked If he could bring the manager over to discuss the table situation. At this point, my husband heard how he was talking to me and told him that he had no right talking to me that way. The security guard then asked my husband If he wanted to "take it outside". Then after threatening my husband, he called the other security guards and said we were threatening him. The manager finally came, and not only did he not apologize for the horrible rudeness of his employee and the horrible customer service, but he pretty much demanded that my husband apologize to security guard for asking him to have some respect! Needless to say, we called the limo and left right then. I cannot believe that a business would willingly ruin their opportunity to get the money of a party of over 30 people! Also, what is crazy is that the security guard and manager would start trouble with any of us. All of us are 29, 30 and older. None of us were being drunken troublemakers or causing any problems. Most of the women in our party are teachers, and I am almost a librarian. I am just stating that none of us were being out of control or causing any problems for the good people at Sharkeez! Don't ever try to plan a special event with Sharkeez in Newport beach because they will make It horrible If they feel like It.”

Balboa Thai Cafe
Aug 3, 2007 by Scarlett from Balboa

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • The food the service the atmosphere the check!
  • Having to get my beef satay early before they run out!

“Can't imagine life without this great little brother and sister run Thai restaurant. Tucked away behind the infamous Class of 47 bars on the Balboa Peninsula it never fails to deliver first rate food, superior service and a check so reasonable you'll feel like you've robbed them. Perfect for impressing a first date, family, friends and visitors from anywhere. Friends of mine from Venice, Marina Del Ray and Ventura have come all the way back to the Peninsula especially to eat there again. The satay's are divine the specialty "Balboa Thai Feast" you just have to have to believe it. It is really so good that it will be "the Thai food" by which all others will be judged.”

Laventinas Big Cheese Pizza
Jul 22, 2007 by Jordan from Costa Mesa

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Pizza, cheese, crust, sauce, pepperoni, friendly fast service, salads, drinks, can see the beach from street.
  • When I don't eat there.

“The best pizza I have ever tasted. The best cheese ever always slightly browned to chewy slightly crispy perfection. The crust is crispy on the bottom but thin still thick enough to be soft and wonderful. Even the sauce is evenly portioned throughout the pie adding to the pizza flavor you long for and; then; yes; the pepperoni. My favorite. I cry if I can't get the pizza when I want it. It's that good. Go get what I am trying to convey. Happiness from my mouth to brain and then some. Lot of other good food. I usually get a ranch delicious full of veggies salad. Great bav selection too. I am coming guys! I am hungry!”

Cafe Nizza
Apr 30, 2007 by DC from Newport Beach

Overall Rating: 4 User Rating Score: 4
Food:[6] • Service:[3] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • Nice atmosphere.
  • Bad attitude.

“While I have never eaten in the restaurant, I have gotten take out pizza. Overpriced, undercooked on occasion. And most of all - snobbish service from the owner. I have to wait 20 minutes for a pick up order after arriving 5 minutes later that the originally promised order time. Actually watched them make the pizza and put it in the oven after they told me a would be a minute or two more. No apology, no offer of a beverage, no offer of a seat while I waited. I was 8 months pregnant at the time.”

Billys At The Beach
Sep 26, 2006 by Rob Wallace from Laguna Niguel, CA

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Nice décor.
  • Staff needs customer relations training.

“Surly bartender with an attitude. No seating for pre-dinner bar scene. We were told to "leave and don't come back!" after we complained that we had no place to stand or sit with our drinks. Bad vibes here. Watch out! Get here early for drinks or prepare to be uncomfortable!”

Brittas Cafe
Jul 10, 2006 by John from Chicago

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Looks pleasant from the inside.
  • Everything left a bad taste in our mouths!

“My wife and I had a horrible time here. Everything was off at the restaurant. Bad entries, appetizers, wine, WATER! ( tell about this later), service, overall a negative experience, id rather go to olive garden over this place. Waiters where horrible, they couldn't get my wine to us before the meal came. The water tasted like metal. The bread was stale. Hanger steak came cold, white wine came warm, and the dessert tasted old and stale. Trust me stay away from this place, unless u want to be reminded what its like to through away money for a stomach ache of a meal and a night. ”

Brittas Cafe

Overall Rating: 1 User Rating Score: 1
Food:[1] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[2]

  • Nothing good except the look.
  • Everything you can think of.

“Had a horrible experience here, the waiters are unfriendly and unkind. The food is far to expensive for what you get. The organization of the restaurant is horrible, food takes forever!, the wine came after our meal, and was wrong!, I asked for another but the waitress just brushed me off, going back to my viewpoint on the waiters. The manager, named Brita, tried to help but did little but frustrate us more. Please never go here, there are plenty of other places in orange county then this POS of a restaurant.”

Newport Beach Rusty Pelican
Jul 6, 2006 by Diana from San Diego

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6
Food:[10] • Service:[2] • Atmosphere:[8]

  • The food was DELICIOUS! The view is great!
  • The servers upstairs are a JOKE. If I was the owner I would fire them all!

“I will start out by saying that the servers upstairs must have been out in the sun too long. It was absolutely the worst service I have seen in a long time. After several attempts with ordering, wrong drinks, no silverware or napkins we asked for our check. Food was on its way but enough was enough. The manager came over and asked us to stay. Dinner was on her. I guess she fixed it. But really girls, stay out of the sun! On a good note, the food was awesome!”
