Royal Mandarin
Apr 14, 2009 by kpa from san diego

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2
Food:[5] • Service:[5] • Atmosphere:[1]

  • Salt and Pepper Chicken was good.
  • Deceptive business practices.

“Royal Mandarin is shorting its customers on the party trays when it comes to individual pieces. I order a 60 pieces salt and pepper chicken wings and only got 47 pieces. They defended their product by pointing to the top of the party menu explaining that it is just an estimation. Last time I checked an estimation of 60 is not 47. So buyer beware. Not only are sales taxes higher in National City but Royal Mandarin has moved on to deceptive business practices.”

Overall Rating: 6 User Rating Score: 6
Food:[8] • Service:[1] • Atmosphere:[4]

  • The food.
  • The waitresses.

“The restaurant should expand because there is not enough room. They should provide more high chairs for kids because I think they only had two or three. My daughter had to sit in a chair next to me.”

Keiths Restaurant
Aug 19, 2008 by RRR from San Diego

Overall Rating: 2 User Rating Score: 2

  • Waitress - great service, for such a tired, dirty place.
  • Cleanliness, food quality and preparation and overall appearance.

“Bathrooms were tagged and dirty. Lunch was a great expense - with a special, coffee and a slice of pie - at $18.00. Pie had taken in the odors of something is was in the fridge with. Waitress was great. But, what a dump!”

Royal Mandarin
Mar 8, 2008 by Cocoa from San Diego

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[9] • Service:[7] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • The egg foo yung's are very good, even better than the salt and pepper chicken!
  • The waitress are umm but the food is great.

“The salt and pepper is outstanding, I have not had Chinese food this good since I left Chicago. If you love good food that is full of flavor this is you place. If I had to describe the taste of the food in one word it would be" Wonderful." Most restaurants that serve great food, may not have the best looking decor. If you want really good food and a really good price this is your spot. Guys, you take your lady out and still keep it affordable. Parents you can take your children out and have a great time, because the food is slamming.”

Royal Mandarin
Jan 31, 2008 by Johanna from Chula Vista,CA

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[5]

  • Salted pepper chicken wings & Orange Chicken.
  • Too crowded restaurant is too small.

“I just recently tried the restaurant out, and I loved the food. They have the best Orange Chicken and the best Salted pepper chicken wings I have ever tasted. There beef and broccoli is also really good and tasty. I just wished the restaurant would be a lot bigger because it tends to feel pretty crowded in there. For those who are just on the go you should definitely call to order first.”

Royal Mandarin

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[9]

  • Great food served by people who act like they appreciate good food.
  • Too many people coming and going through a small entryway.

“The absolute best salted pepper chicken wings anywhere. I used to work nearby, but I still drive over 20 miles just to have those wings. The catering is great, and the service is always friendly. The atmosphere is ok, but with the volume of people coming in for great big trays of wings and other specialties, it could never be described as "romantic." I have eaten here dozens of times, and I have never had a bad bit of food. Highly recommend. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.”

Barbecue Pit The
Nov 6, 2007 by Jaime from San Diego

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Food:[9] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • Food is great.
  • Line is slow.

“Best BBQ in national city! They could definitely work in speeding up the line. They could use another register. I've waited up to 20 minutes, but the food makes up for it. Kind of dark and dingy in there so take your food to go unless you like having deer heads watching you while you eat.”

Royal Mandarin
Nov 16, 2006 by rabbyt from chula vista

Overall Rating: 9 User Rating Score: 9
Service:[9] • Atmosphere:[7]

  • The food is amazing.
  • The decor needs some work.

“I have been going to this place for eight years, and let me tell you, best Chinese food ever! My husband introduced me to it when we first started dating and the food has so many flavors and is put together so nicely- you'll love every dish you try. They have the best orange chicken around- it¿s nice and thick and tasty- not like the crap you get at other places where it has no flavor and is hard as a rock. Their beef broccoli is really yummy and so is their beef chazzan. I definitely recommend going here- you won't regret it. Every person I take there falls in love with that place and goes all the time now. Loll.”

Casa De Oro Restaurant

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[8] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • The food is original, excellent tasting, brings back memories of childhood.
  • Not a 15 minute lunch stop.

“Excellent food, fantastic homemade tortillas, when you miss your Mother's cooking, this is the place to visit to eat. Service is not for the fast and furious - recommend calling in advance for take out. The staff is friendly and dressed in native costume.”

El Juan Cafe
May 23, 2006 by Heide from Slidell

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Atmosphere:[6]

  • The Chile Rellenos with sweet sauce.
  • None... great experience!

“I haven't been to this restaurant in about 20 years due to relocating to Louisiana, but used to go their with my family when I was a kid and well into my early 20s. I have yet to find anyone who comes even close to their chile relleno recipe, absolutely AWESOME. If I were to ever have the option of a "last meal," it would be one of those chile rellenos with the sweet sauce, makes my mouth water just thinking about them!”

El Juan Cafe
May 6, 2006 by Russ from Encinitas, CA

Overall Rating: 10 User Rating Score: 10
Food:[10] • Service:[10] • Atmosphere:[10]

  • Friendliness along with the food quality and quantity.
  • Sometimes the chips are a bit stale-ask for fresh ones.

“This is a great little Mexican restaurant. Been around since the early 50's. My wife have been going there since before we were married, about 43 years, and my wife has been going for over 50 years. No splashy exterior or interior. Clean, simple and the best Mexican food I have ever eaten, including anything in Mexico or L.A. Full bar, variety of beers. Try the Chili Relleno with the sweet sauce. You'll never find another like it.”
